Game 83, Orioles at Mariners
DMZ · July 7, 2009 at 7:12 pm · Filed Under Mariners
7:10. Guthrie versus Bedard, who as of press time has still not been scratched.
RF-L Ichiro!
1B-L Branyan
2B-R Lopez
DH-L Griffey
CF-R Gutierrez
LF-L Langerhans
C-R Johnson
3B-R Woodward
SS-R Cedeno
So Gutierrez, who I used to wonder about at #9, is now #5. I’ll take it.

This is beginning to look like the bullpen we expected it would be.
Whoever said the game would be 12-10 was right, except for the 10 part.
Holy Hell
Ok, this is ugly. Man oh Man 12-3, frick, Gnight. WTF happend lately with the pen?
The Rangers are giving the game back to the Angels.
If Rob Johnson had been catching this never would have happened… wait… 😉
You’re wrong.
But, but, Rob “Catcher ERA” is in the game. This is unpossible!
Luke Scott fans rejoice–this is your night!
At least this game won’t damage our one-run game record!
quick, what’s Rob Johnson’s new CERA??? 🙂
Yeah… so I think I’ll use this game as an excuse to get to bed at a decent time…
Junior did not look good running on that double.
Despite the home run on his first pitch, Corky is looking better. 5-0 Ground outs to fly outs, Johnson is settling down it looks like.
Was Junior deking the LF on that wobble coming around first?
I’m undervolting my computer right now… which sounds a lot more exciting than following this game. Luckily the Rangers escaped yet another based loaded situation.
Holy crap cedeno
I am having traumatic flashbacks to past seasons. Because of the score, that is. It’s nice to see George Sherrill. Hi George!
As good as Branyan is at the plate he needs to stop swinging for the fences every time
Clearly the bullpen was rusty after not getting any work last night.
LAN-GER-HANS…got it, FSN?
“As good as Branyan is at the plate he needs to stop swinging for the fences every time”
Seems to be working out for him so far this season.
Well when he gets the bat on the ball, it’s pretty much going to be a home run but although he gets those RBIs there are other times when the strikeouts negate the benefits
a) ignore RBIs and don’t quote them as anything meaningful if you want to be taken seriously around here.
b) Branyan is the best hitter on the team. As in most productive. His wOBA is .415, his WPA/LI is 2.10, and he’s produced more Runs Above Average with is bat (23.8) than the entire rest of the team so far this year (23.3, not counting the guys with negative numbers). He’s one of the top 10 to 15 hitters in all of MLB so far this year.
His swing is fine.
Good things in game: Bedard really settled down and kicked butt; Gut whacked one that was simply massive; and Woodward made a really nice play on that double play.
Bad things: pretty much everything else. Those three guys at the bottom of the order give us no chance to score every other inning. You can’t win baseball games that way.
So. You want Rob Johnson to not do well? Or is it just fun to be snarky?
“So. You want Rob Johnson to not do well?”
My comment was “quick, what’s Rob Johnson’s new CERA???”
So what does that have to do with Rob Johnson not doing well??? Rob Johnson has just about zero control over his CERA (other than maybe adding some passed balls or “wild” pitches to perhaps increase it given the right circumstances).
ok wow (from SI):
“visitor’s clubhouse at Yankee Stadium last week doing his usual pregame stretching when a large, muscular man suddenly jumped on top of him and began … tickling him? Yes, Ken Griffey Jr. was tickling his fellow outfielder, both players acting like schoolchildren and wearing smiles as broad as the room they were playing in.
As Ichiro squealed and giggled with delight, Griffey kept asking, “Who’s the man? Who’s the man?” A breathless Ichiro managed to squeak out in accented English, “I’m the man,” and only then did the 39-year-old Griffey relent.”
Now it’s official. Silva’s kissing everyone; Sweeney’s hugging all around; and now the equivalent of “who’s your daddy?” between Ichiro and Jr…. That’s a little much for me. 🙂
That’s kindof the point of the joke. Catcher ERA is a made-up stat that doesn’t reflect on Rob Johnson’s ability at all, one way or another. It’s meaningless.
And it’s not like we can stop Rob Johnson from doing poorly in any case.
