Since June 16th: 34 for 86, 4 2B, 7 HR, 7 BB, 20 K, .395/.441/.686.

.395/.441/.686 from a gold glove caliber center fielder.

The man is carrying the team right now.

That Felix guy is okay too.

Where do I get one of those bullpen t-shirts? The one with the helmet and swords on the back?

The trade that brought Gutierrez to Seattle might end up making Z Major League Executive of the Year.

  3. Coach on July 9th, 2009 10:17 pm

A long term contract for each, please.

  4. Benne on July 9th, 2009 10:18 pm

When we acquired Gutz in the trade, I’ve been spending the whole winter trying to convince my friends that he was the next Cammie. They would all laugh at me.

    Guess who’s laughing now.

    Yes…Yes…YES!!! 🙂

    Death to Flying Things.
    Death to Thrown Things.

    Wow.

A real shame Gut wasn’t selected to the All-Star squad. But look who’s starting in the OF, Josh Hamilton. And Ben Zobrist, who is deserving, made it as an OF even though he’s started there only 17 times this season.

    Death to Thrown Things.

    Wow.

Not to mention, Death to Snacks in the Bleachers as well…Boo-Yah!

I love that his hot streak neatly coincided with one of Ichiro’s lulls.

  10. scott19 on July 9th, 2009 10:47 pm

Talk about hitting on all cylinders…

  11. Utis on July 9th, 2009 10:49 pm

Gutierrez needs to move up to third in the lineup flipping with Lopez. The team needs to cash in Ichiro more often. BTW Despite his eroding sills Jr. can still turn in quality ABs. That was a key walk he had tonight.

  12. scott19 on July 9th, 2009 10:53 pm

That was a key walk he had tonight.

Yeah…a guy who called into the post-game show just now picked up on that, too.

    Great AB, Griff!

I’m a pretty firm believer in batting orders not meaning all that much, but dare we talk about moving D TAFT to the 3 spot? more at bats right now would be a good thing.

Anywhere is better than sub 5th where he has been most of the season.

Felix would be, what, a (distant) 2nd in the cy young today?

  16. wrob4343 on July 9th, 2009 11:52 pm

Felix would be, what, a (distant) 2nd in the cy young today?

He keeps pitching like he has been (provided some minimal run support) and we are looking at a close race at the finish.

I have not question that Gutierrez is a great player, but his offensive numbers are due for another correction, this time downward.

His BABIP is not going to remain at .350, sadly.

But we’re not talking about a huge dip, either.

However, his pitch selection has improved even more, and that probably will remain very good.

And he’s kind of a good center fielder, I guess.

Man, I gotta stop posting when I’m smoking crack.

    “I have NO question…”

I wish so much that I had the edit button back.

Also, I wish I hadn’t taken Japanese as my foreign language in high school.

However, it does allow me to scream “I am a fish” at the top of my lungs, which has twice gotten a smirk from Ichiro as he runs towards right field.

He probably thinks “Oh, great, its the fat white guy that thinks he’s a fish again.”

The man is carrying the team right now.

There aren’t a whole lotta choices, so let’s be glad someone is carrying the team. If we don’t score after no. 5 in the order, we’re not scoring.

  20. terry on July 10th, 2009 4:24 am

He’ll never replace Olerud, but FG is becoming one of my favorite players.

    A haiku is in order….

    Ball flying away
Gone at bat caught in the field
    FG is superman

  21. BillH on July 10th, 2009 6:06 am

My favorite Felix stat right now is that he’s 3rd in the majors in IP, behind Grienke and Lincecum and ahead of Millwood and Halladay.

If he leaves in FA, I’m gonna cry.

  22. Jeff Nye on July 10th, 2009 6:35 am

Who’s the WPA leader among center fielders right now, according to Fangraphs?

    No, not Grady Sizemore.

    No, not Curtis Granderson.

    Franklin Gutierrez.

(he also leads the position in the Clutch stat on the same page)

  23. TheMsfan on July 10th, 2009 8:21 am

Ya, but….we coulda kept Luis Valbuena and got Joe Smith instead. So…keep that in mind when we’re praising him 🙂

    Here’s sometthing better:

‘mo ichido ichiro’ which means (do it) again, ichiro.

  25. Jeff Nye on July 10th, 2009 8:33 am

I liked Valbuena, but I wouldn’t trade Gutierrez for him straight up at this point.

  26. JJD on July 10th, 2009 9:54 am

    A haiku is in order….

    Ball flying away
Gone at bat caught in the field
    FG is superman

That last line has six syllables.

  27. JJD on July 10th, 2009 9:55 am

    Smokes a three run bomb.
    Felix brings the bromance to
    Death to Flying Things.

  28. Gregor on July 10th, 2009 10:03 am

Steve Kelley, in one of his more lucid moments, also noticed this.

  29. terry on July 10th, 2009 10:04 am

That last line has six syllables.

    Dude, FG is pronounced “FUG”….

  30. rjfrik on July 10th, 2009 10:36 am

    He is so $$$$$$$$.

This idiot Orioles fans on another seattle board is throwing everything but the kitchen sink to support his argument that Jones is a better player then Franky. But I keep throwing stone cold facts from fangraphs and guess what? He’s dead wrong. Franky is better and if he keeps hitting like this it won’t even be close.

  31. georgmi on July 10th, 2009 12:41 pm

    Dude, FG is pronounced “FUG”….

For what batters say when they hit a ball in his direction?

  32. Rusty on July 10th, 2009 1:58 pm

I would buy that young man dinner (and his friend, Felix, too) if allowed to.
