   NICE play by Hannahan, you don’t see that enough in baseball anymore it seems like.

   I was just out at a work team-building afternoon that ended at Tacos Guaymas, where I spent like ten minutes trying to tell our waiter how to properly change the channel to FSN so I could see Felix Day.

   I’m about to go back out now, but I will leave home with a glow of contentment. Viva el Felix!

    I want that ball checked for paint. They should have reviewed that would be HR looked like it clipped the pole on the way by.

    I’m also kind of confused on that Guttierrez error ruling. How is it an error when they still recorded the out? So no harm no foul. Just don’t understand how they can rule that an error especially since he never touched the ball. That’s like giving someone an error when they get a bad jump and the ball drops in there, which the offical scorer never gives an error on such plays.

    Because Sizemore reached base. If he had stopped at 1st, he reaches base because of error. Then he got greedy and went for 2nd. In the end, you’re right, no real difference than if he catches it cleanly in the air, but thats your explanation.

    I’m afraid it’s proof that every team’s announcers are idiots, or rather, that it’s impossible to sound intelligent talking non-stop for three hours.

    It looked like it actually went through the bottom of the foul pole. It’s got the three separate poles down there and no grating.

    Ok someone please pinch me. I’m either dead, dreaming, or seeing things. But am I the only one that has just seen Cedeno get his 2nd 2 out RBI single this game?

    I’ve been saying this since before Yuni got benched: Cedeno is not quite as bad a hitter as people think. He’s got a .241 career batting average (though just a 60 OPS+ / .271 wOBA). And even if that was accumulated in the NL Central, with regular playing time we shouldn’t be surprised if he claws his way above the Mendoza line, anyway.

    Yeah, the book is out on Branyan, and all the teams for the past couple of weeks (at least) have been shifting the infield. You’ll note they don’t shift the outfield, though: generally if it gets that far, the outfielder’s involvement amounts to standing still, looking up, and watching the ball go by.

    Remember when we were kept getting That Guy after every Felix start who wanted to know when Felix was going to live up to his billing and earn his “King” moniker and pitch like an ace? I wonder what happened to that guy?

    An error to allow the runner to reach first, an assist for throwing him out at second. Makes sense.

    I assume it works for catchers too? If Sizemore is on second base, and Rob Johnson lets the pitch get by him, but Sizemore tries for home and is thrown out with Felix covering, Johnson still gets charged with a passed ball?

    Yes. The general philosophy is that a subsequent play, no matter how amazing, can’t erase the error that made the outstanding play necessary.

    Fangraphs has hitched their wagon to some advertising or hit tracking service that seems to break their website in Chrome. It works in IE6 though. As a web developer, this makes me sad and confused.

    Fangraphs still works for me in Chrome… but Chrome itself has been sluggish all day with everything, unlike IE, Opera, or FF. I think Google is reaching through teh intratubes to eff with my machine.

    The Red Sox released Lugo today… what do you think about the Mariners adding him to the lineup at ss?

    You know what’s sad? Kansas City could now pick up Lugo for nothing and get an upgrade over Betancourt (they’re both -8.2 UZR this year). And everybody knew the Red Sox were going to release Lugo soon, so it’s not a question of 20-20 hindsight. Instead of getting a better guy at the league minimum and have the Red Sox pick up the difference, they gave up minor league talent and committed to part of Yuni’s salary for the next couple of years. This must be what it was like for fans of other teams to watch the Bavasi-led Mariners the past few years.

    You forgetting about Quinn Johnson? The guy is a flat-out sledgehammer! Packers will be fine at FB.
    Of course, he’s no Jack Hannahan! 😀

    Anybody else feel like Cedeno is kinda coming on offensively? I agree with the poster that said it could be he’s more relaxed with Yuni gone. With his glove, a better bat from him would be a nice bonus.

    Saw this somewhere. I knew Felix had been dominant, but I didn’t realize he was middle-of-the-season-best-in-baseball dominant:

    Felix Hernandez has pitched at least seven innings in each of his last eight starts, including going eight innings Friday in Cleveland. That’s the longest such active streak in the big leagues.
