There’s Still Time

Dave · July 19, 2009 at 4:23 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Last weekend, I road-tripped to an out-of-state wedding that basically took me out of the baseball loop for the weekend. During that time, the Mariners took three of four from the Texas Rangers, dumped Yuniesky Betancourt on the Royals, and acquired Jack Hannahan to help fill the hole at third base.

This weekend, I took my wife on her first-ever camping trip (she enjoyed it, will do it again, thanks for asking) to the mountains of North Carolina, which again took me out of the baseball loop from Friday to Sunday. The M’s won all three games while I was out of town, with Gutierrez showing Cleveland why we love him (he’s now 11th in baseball in wins above replacement, by the way), Felix still pitching like a true ace, and Washburn continuing to inflate his trade value.

I don’t have any plans for next weekend yet, but if the M’s know what’s good for them, I’ll be receiving some airline tickets from the club shortly. I’ve heard Nova Scotia is beautiful this time of year…

Heh, but if Wash pitches well against the Tigers what will Zduriencik do without your advice?

I was just talking to a friend of mine, about how much better this year was than last. On this date in 2008, the M’s lost to Cleveland 9 to 6, to fall to 38 and 59. Thats a nice 11 game win difference, and unless the mariners go 11 and 57 to end the year…I would say this is an improvement.

Which means you musta been home A LOT last year, Dave 🙂

Dave, we are merely going to quarantine you in your house and install a giant Cone of Silence over it.

How about just moving into a small hermetically-sealed tree house in the backyard with no contact from the outside world or baseball?

Date of reinsertion back into the real word: Thursday, November 5, 2009, the last scheduled day of the 2009 World Series.

    Keep busy Dave.

Felipe Lopez was traded to the Brewers this afternoon. Any thoughts on the idea that it might indicate J.J. Hardy is on the move?

So what are you saying, Dave?

Are you saying this team does better when you’re out of the picture? 🙂

I was thinking the same thing Wilder89…

These people found someplace quiet for a while, perhaps you can sign up for a shorter test. http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUSTRE56D41Q20090714

Along with inflating his trade value, Washburn’s performance also reiterated how much Safeco Field and terrific outfield defense have helped him this year.

You forgot to mention that Ken Griffey was finally benched on Sunday giving Chris Shelton a chance at DH. Hopefully, Jr rides the pine the rest of the season, he is not helping at the plate.

Halifax, Nova Scotia is awesome this time of year.

I’m pretty sure the Brewers traded for Lopez because they are only 3 games back and Rickie Weeks is out for the year. Lopez is a free agent after the season and Weeks will be back in 2010.

Yeah, jr being old and playing out his swan song on a team that was supposed to have ZERO chance of contending. It’s awesome to see him get shown up by a younger guy.

It was pretty cool to see that bat go almost into the dugout though.
