Game 98, Indians at Mariners

1:10. Cliff Lee v Vargas. Sure would be nice if Lee was pulled before the game so he could be traded somewhere, and the M’s faced someone hastily shoved out of the bullpen.

Here’s the kicker: Baker reports Bedard’s on the DL with shoulder inflammation (which seems to be the M’s injury of choice this year), allowing Vargas to join the active 25-man roster… and in turn means Bedard’s not going anywhere, certainly not ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline, because you can’t trade guys on the DL.

Might as well offer Bedard a one-year deal for 2010, with an appearance-based option for 2011.

Bedard would likely accept arbitration if we offer it – he knows his value is low. And I don’t think we’ve soured on him so much that we just let him walk and say good-bye to a possible comp pick.

  2. Mike Honcho on July 26th, 2009 11:16 am

Oh – and a question for Dave – is it possible that the TB/Clev/Seattle deal only includes Lee, and not V. Martinez?

  3. jld on July 26th, 2009 11:17 am

I agree with Mike and hope in light of this appearance on the DL maybe we can get Bedard for the next year or two on a below market contract. It’s been frustrating watching him pitch single starts between stints on the DL, but he’s got talent, so I’m happy to have him stick around cheap if he’s not going to have much trade value.

  4. Charley on July 26th, 2009 11:17 am

Wasn’t Yuni on the DL when we traded him?

  5. Sodomojostrikesback on July 26th, 2009 11:23 am

We activated him before the trade.

Can’t say I’m surprised afterreading McGrath’s story this morning.

Kind of how I feel about wednesday’s Jays game…

  8. Liam on July 26th, 2009 11:36 am

If Bedard wanted to reestablish his value with a one year deal, why do it with the Mariners given his history with the club?

  9. Dave on July 26th, 2009 11:47 am

We’ll do a post tomorrow on whether the M’s should risk offering Bedard arbitration. It’s not a cut-and-dry call either way.

Which, if you haven’t guessed, means that Bedard’s present value is now officially nil. As of today, the M’s traded Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio, and Tony Butler for three wins, and those three wins cost them $15 million in salary.

Given that the market price of a win is around $4.5 to $5 million, you could accurately state that the M’s traded those five players for absolutely nothing. They got zero value in return.

    Awesome.

  10. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 11:52 am

They got zero value in return.

That was a different time…no matter what Bedard does from here on out that trade will suck, but we can’t take it back. Can’t wait to read the arb or not to arb piece tomorrow, as you’d hate to lose all hope of getting some kind of return. He’s a sunk cost though, and what we’ve paid in the past should never factor into decisions about the future. I’m hoping over the next few days they can turn more pieces from the old regime of bad decisions into new pieces for the future.

  11. Faceplant on July 26th, 2009 12:00 pm

If Bedard misses a significant portion of the remaining schedule, what are his chances of securing type B free agent status?

It seems to me that if he doesn’t make type B status, it makes the decision somewhat easier.

  12. DMZ on July 26th, 2009 12:01 pm

He’s not doing all that great in the ratings right now — if he’s out the rest of the season, yeah, he might not clear the Bs.

  13. patnmic on July 26th, 2009 12:03 pm

I’d like to see Bedard go just so we can close the book on the whole ugly thing. Every time I hear of his troubles I shudder and curse the old regime in my head. Go the way of Ryan Leaf and just let us heal.

  14. kenshabby on July 26th, 2009 12:07 pm

Yet another sign Bedard is destined to finish his career in the bullpen. He might make a pretty good closer if he could just accept that’s where he’s headed.

  15. juneau_fan on July 26th, 2009 12:11 pm

Waiting for the game and watching Phillies and Cardinals game on TBS. There’s worse on air people than the M’s.

David Wells. His blowharding, now in a constant stream, for nine innings. *shudder*

  16. Mike Honcho on July 26th, 2009 12:12 pm

if he’s out the rest of the season, yeah, he might not clear the Bs.

    Yep, that would change everything.

If he is a B, there are four options:

    1) The M’s offer arbitration, and he says yes. This means he gets a one-year deal at a raise from last year, to boot.

    2) The M’s offer arbitration, and he says no. We get the comp pick.

    3) The M’s don’t offer arbitration. He leaves and we get absolutely nothing for him.

    4) The M’s offer a new deal, and possibly get him for another year or two.

Do they value the shot at getting a comp pick in what Churchill has called a weak draft class enought to risk paying Bedard next year for more than he earned this year?

Or do they not see enough value there and rather choose to let him walk than have to pay him?

Or do they like him enough to bypass at least a shot to get a comp pick, and re-sign him (of course, they could offer arbitration, he could say no, and they still make a deal)?

Personally, I would not care to see him back, but he hasn’t earned the raise he’d get in arbitration.

  17. jordan on July 26th, 2009 12:13 pm

And to make the news even better, Chris Tillman is going to make his MLB debut on Wednesday starting for the Orioles against Zach Grienke.

  18. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 12:16 pm

If Bedard misses a significant portion of the remaining schedule, what are his chances of securing type B free agent status?

Probably about as great as the chances of it snowing here this week…what with a heat advisory and all.

Yet another sign Bedard is destined to finish his career in the bullpen.

I’ve been thinking that as well for some time now.

  19. DMZ on July 26th, 2009 12:16 pm

Bedard might be a really interesting arb case. On one side, generally arb guys get big raises because it’s more service-time based than anything, but if he doesn’t pitch (or doesn’t pitch well) this year, his case isn’t going to be all that strong. And since as a general rule playing time = raise, he might be quite weak there. I can’t think of any good comparable cases where a player like Bedard has gone to arbitration with good numbers but (for the two years) horrible counting stats.

  20. Marinerz51 on July 26th, 2009 12:30 pm

Why does Wak freaking incist on hitting Branyan 2nd??? Move Gutz to #2 drop Branyan to #5, and let me take Cedeno’s place, and our offensive woes are solved.

  21. DMZ on July 26th, 2009 12:34 pm

Also, you would comment less, presumably, making our valued moderators happier. I kid! I kid! Except now that I look at the logs, maybe not all that much.

  22. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 12:35 pm

Saw a story on mlbtraderumors that the M’s asked for Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner in exchange for Wash. As you can imagine, the Yankees weren’t impressed, and just put Gardner on the DL with a broken thumb. Obviously, this trade won’t happen, but I’m trying to understand the rationale.

Would the plan be to put Gardner in left (and demote Saunders) and put switch hitting Cabrera at DH? I wouldn’t see this as the best possible strategy, but maybe it’s to create pieces for subsequent deals? Any ideas or is this just a worthless rumor?

  23. Marinerz51 on July 26th, 2009 12:37 pm

[aaand this is the comment that clinches it!]

  24. Jeff Nye on July 26th, 2009 12:39 pm

That Yankees rumor is from LAST YEAR. I chuckled when I saw it.

  25. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 12:40 pm

Interesting that those same three guys are again mentioned in a potential M’s-Yanks trade exactly one year later…hmmm.

  26. JI on July 26th, 2009 12:40 pm

Given that the market price of a win is around $4.5 to $5 million, you could accurately state that the M’s traded those five players for absolutely nothing. They got zero value in return.

Except a shiny new front office

  27. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 12:41 pm

Not only do they continue to pencil Sweeney in the lineup, but they put him in the cleanup spot…ugh! Sweeney can be a better clubhouse presence on the bench when he doesn’t have to get up for 5 minutes to be an automatic out. Maybe this is their last act of good faith before they waive him.

  28. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 12:41 pm

Dang, Jeff, you beat me to it…tie goes to the mod! :)

  29. joser on July 26th, 2009 12:44 pm

but I’m trying to understand the rationale.

The raionale is that you shouldn’t put much stock in what you read on mlbtraderumors.com. Perhaps there’s no factual basis for this whatsoever, in which case you’re spending time trying to make sense of something somebody made up just to see if they could get it repeated on mlbtraderumors.com

  30. joser on July 26th, 2009 12:48 pm

Some kind of crazy pitchers’ duel going on in KC, where Sir Ponson is holding court against Texas, and Millwood left after two innings for some reason. Can we just pretend the Angels don’t exist and the Rangers are the team the M’s are trying to beat?

(After last year, getting over .500 and into 2nd place is a pretty respectable showing if you ask me)

  31. henryv on July 26th, 2009 12:51 pm

Bedard will forever be my most hated M’s player.

Bad trade, bad guy, bad bad bad. I’d offer him a BIC pen (one of the cheap blue ones) and league minimum, and tell him if he doesn’t like it he can jump off the Alki pier for all we care.

Sorry, I’m just pissed off. Gawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwd.

  32. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 12:51 pm

That would make finding a logical rationale difficult.

  33. Sodomojostrikesback on July 26th, 2009 12:52 pm

Agreed, but we still ought to be prepared for 2008 2.0. We’re only a few years removed from a surprisingly good year, and then we followed up the next year with a more or less wasted season.

  34. henryv on July 26th, 2009 12:53 pm

(After last year, getting over .500 and into 2nd place is a pretty respectable showing if you ask me)

If we can maintain .500 or a few games over it, that should really be something of a proud accomplishment, however, I still don’t think that Texas will finish below us, even if we do that.

  35. Sodomojostrikesback on July 26th, 2009 12:56 pm

So is it bad that I was cheering as the Indians tacked runs on us yesterday, since my fantasy survival rested on Ryan Garko to offset a certain perfect game pitched this week?

  36. 300ZXNA on July 26th, 2009 12:56 pm

Man. From a simply cathartic standpoint I hope that Bedard can come back next year and perhaps finally have a strong, relatively injury free year. His injury history is the thing that bothers me most about Bavasi’s evaluation of Bedard. How on earth he felt that his injury issues would just magically disappear once he was an M is beyond me.

As for the trade that brought Erik here, when I was a kid we had a dog who would sometimes make a mess on the carpet. When she did so, my mom would shove her nose in it and scold her loudly. The dog would whimper and cower in supposed penitence. Oh, how I wish I could do this with Bavasi.

Dave- I know this is probably just an exercise in masochism, but I was wondering what the value of the package we gave up for Bedard is currently projected at, considering it’s established that we received nothing beyond what should have been gained via the salary alone.

  37. Sodomojostrikesback on July 26th, 2009 12:58 pm

You’re giving me the impression that you think Bavasi thought these things through. When did he ever give any indication of having a good grasp on the value of the players he was moving?

  38. argh on July 26th, 2009 12:58 pm

Re: Sweeney at DH. I think Wak’s simply putting some spine in Vargas by taking hostages. “You’re on your own at there, kid. Nobody’s gonna bail you out. And don’t forget, I know where your kids go to school, too, so let’s seem some pitches.”

  39. Sodomojostrikesback on July 26th, 2009 12:59 pm

I would like to point to Astrubal Cabrera as an example.

  40. robbbbbb on July 26th, 2009 1:05 pm

The M’s are 7 1/2 out as of this morning, and their playoff chances are down below 5%. Coolstandings has them around 3%, and that sounds about right to me. Teams don’t come back from a 7 1/2 game deficit all the time, and those that do generally have some reason for it. That’s not this year’s Mariners.

I’ve been saying for a while that I wanted them to either go on a winning streak and really get in it, or a losing streak and get out of it. The winning streak happened. To the Angels.

But man, it’s been a fun ride getting there, too. Fantastically fun. This year’s Mariners have offered highs and lows and heartburn and joy. For that I thank them, ‘cuz this beats the hell out of last year.

  41. joser on July 26th, 2009 1:09 pm

We’re only a few years removed from a surprisingly good year, and then we followed up the next year with a more or less wasted season.

Right, because Zduriencik and co are going to move from ’09 to ’10 in exactly the way Bavasi went from ’07 to ’08….

(It is true that this year’s team, like the ’07 one, is well outperforming its pythagorean and 1-run “luck” number. But I’m confident Zduriencik not only knows that but understands that, just like I’m certain Bavasi still doesn’t)

is injury history is the thing that bothers me most about Bavasi’s evaluation of Bedard. How on earth he felt that his injury issues would just magically disappear once he was an M is beyond me.

Women think that men will be different after marriage all the time. Once you get infatuated you can convince yourself of all manner of unlikely things.

  66. Adam B. on July 26th, 2009 1:35 pm

I wouldn’t mind if the M’s offered Bedard an incentive based contract for a couple of years at this point.

What we gave up for him is moot, it wasn’t smart at the time, and even if Bedard had won a couple of Cy’s in the two years we had him, it would’ve only deadened the pain of a still ridiculously one-sided trade.

Going forward, I would say it’s in the Mariners best interest to tender him a respectable “re-establish” contract and hope he bites and gives you some value before he walks.
Maybe throw one of those contracts at Rich Harden as well next off-season?

As for Bedard being the most hated Mariner, Hardly. He isn’t even in the top two or three this year.

Wondering one thing about CERA… I think it is something in Statistics called false causation.

Is it possible that Rob just has a much better CERA than Kenji because of who pitches when he is catching? I mean, I love how our three best pitchers supposedly want Rob. I mean, nothing for it, but I think that if I was catching ONLY Felix, Washburn, and Bedard, my CERA would be pretty good too. To be fair, the pitchers that Kenji catch are our worst ones (G. Olson, vargas, and Hypen).

I mean, Kenji has the higher BA, and he seems adapt at throwing at runners.

And even though I get the “Waterloo” angle it still seems like an…odd… thing to do, especially in climate-controlled stadium. At a baseball game. And here’s a question: did they wear them into the game? Or did they carve and eat them at their seats? Toronto has days when you can bring your dog to the game, so who knows.

Not to rub salt in the wound, but have you seen Tillman’s AAA stats so far this year?
    9.22 K/9, 3.81 K/BB, .47 HR/9, 2.76 FIP
(In fact, he’s sitting atop Fangraphs’ minor league leaderboard in FIP). If he can match that once he adjusts to major league hitting, Baltimore will have a better pitcher than Bedard.

At least Gutierez is worth more than Jones (this year, anyway) — he can even drive in runs off Cy Young pitchers.

Seeing Wak giving signs reminds me– the other day I happened to hear Gas for the first time in a long while, and he was talking to Rob Johnson. Gas actually said something about Wak calling the game from the dugout. Rob (having a hard time conceling his surprise at the notion) pointed put to him that the manager calling the game happens in HS and sometimes college, and that in the Major leagues they want the catcher and pitcher in charge of such things.

  91. hoser on July 26th, 2009 2:15 pm

I don’t get it. I hold Bavasi in contempt for being so deceptive about his incompetence, which is probably not justifiable since he was probably just ignorant and not too bright and other people put him in position to do the team great harm.

But why the hate for Bedard? As far as I can tell, he tried to play hurt last year, risking his career in a non-walk year and didn’t suck up to the media. Yeah, M’s management made a terrible deal, but is that Erik’s fault?

It’s great to have the King and see him don his monarchical robes, but there aren’t many like that. Johan, Roy, Tim, maybe a few others, but there is no way we will ever have five of them. It’s amazing to have one and unreasonable to dream of two.

So what do we fill our rotation with? It seems like the choices are fragile and good like Bedard, mediocre and durable like Washburn, puzzles like Gil Meche, or worse.

It seems to me that we are destined to have 2 to 4 mediocre to good, but definitely not great pitchers on our roster and loving our team means that we should appreciate the best of them. In a relative way, I love Bedard, 2009 Washburn, Meche, Piniero and even Franklin. The pitchers that I have trouble with are the likes of Silva and Batista.

So I don’t understand the hate for Bedard. He’s doing his best. When we can get it, his best is damn good. He’s fragile, as Dave has been telling us since before the trade. So what else is new? He’s not the King. Don’t blame him for that. I’m sure he’d love to be the King too.

  92. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 2:20 pm

At this point, a batting cage pitching machine might be as good as Bedard — and certainly a lot more durable and less expensive.

  93. Breadbaker on July 26th, 2009 2:24 pm

Bedard is not responsible for whom he was traded for. He is what he is.

  94. Liam on July 26th, 2009 2:26 pm

Dave Niehaus on that last pitch, strike 3 called, balk, catcher’s interference then hit by pitch.

  95. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 2:28 pm

As Kramer says: “Sell, Sell, Sell, Sell!”

  96. msb on July 26th, 2009 2:29 pm

I’m still baffled by that call. As far as I can tell, Garko wasn’t aware he’d been HB.

  97. Slippery Elmer on July 26th, 2009 2:30 pm

    Bye, Jarrod.

  98. littlelinny6 on July 26th, 2009 2:30 pm

That call was BS. Garko dives into the plate, on Gameday that was a strike, it should be strike 3 regardless. You can allow guys to go up there with body armor and use it to get on base. A poor call by the umpire, that was a strike and he should be out.

  99. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 2:30 pm

    Na, na, hey, hey…goodbye season!

  100. jordan on July 26th, 2009 2:31 pm

And lets make it official… we are sellers this week. Goodbye Washburn, oh wait, that is all we have to sell!

  101. msb on July 26th, 2009 2:33 pm

Well, if Zduriencik does start dealing, there won’t be any need to “explain it to the clubhouse” as Salk was wondering aloud the other day.

  102. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 2:34 pm

Well, the Universal Sports channel has beach volleyball on at the moment, in case this game gets any worse.

  103. Marinerman1979 on July 26th, 2009 2:37 pm

Well, if this teams keeps tanking, does that hurt their position as “reluctant” sellers?

  104. Breadbaker on July 26th, 2009 2:44 pm

We’re sure making Cliff Lee go deep into counts.

  105. joser on July 26th, 2009 2:48 pm

But why the hate for Bedard?

As far as I can tell, certain media personalities last year decided, on the basis of no real evidence, that Bedard wasn’t really hurt, or was no more hurt than most players are, and was wimping out by not pitching well (and then not pitching). His failure last year was therefore due to not so much an injury as a lack of character. And certain other people who would rather be finger puppets for talk jocks than think for themselves just repeated that sentiment until it settled in as a kind of received wisdom even among many in the wider fanbase, getting all mixed up with the growing disgust for the deal he was a part of (and that was perhaps an overreaction in itself especially in a barn-door-and-horse way by the people who thought it was a good deal at the time). Now it’s just a visceral reaction, and everytime Bedard has a problem — and he is a fragile guy, so that happens distressingly frequently — the hate just emerges, however disproportionate and irrational it might be.

  106. jefffrane on July 26th, 2009 2:51 pm

Oh, goodie. Here we go again. I think I can safely take a nap and still be in the 6th inning when I get up.

  107. Jake N. on July 26th, 2009 2:51 pm

Ok this is just got crazy in the last 3 games. Yes, I understand we were playing over our heads talent wise, but the switch just does not shut off like that. We just played these guys a week ago. I do not even recognize this team? Our pitching staff the entire first half was strong now it is feeble? How did it all go south so fast?

  108. jordan on July 26th, 2009 2:55 pm

    haha, wow.

  109. Breadbaker on July 26th, 2009 2:55 pm

Batista is the human surrender flag.

  110. juneau_fan on July 26th, 2009 2:56 pm

Can we assume no one will want Batista?

BTW, we haven’t heard a lot from Batista recently about how he should be in the starting rotation. Although I’ve just cursed us, I’m sure, since we’re still a starter short, right?

  111. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 2:56 pm

I’m scratching my head…is this the same team from last week? I guess the guys in the clubhouse have something against Washburn…

  112. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 2:56 pm

And Niehaus and Rizzs are now laughing about this game on the radio…sigh.

  113. Jeff Nye on July 26th, 2009 2:57 pm

That’s the Batista we know and love!

  114. TomTuttle on July 26th, 2009 2:57 pm

It’s time to bring out Evil Rick Rizzs.

  115. Marinerman1979 on July 26th, 2009 2:57 pm

    From Badtista to worse!

  116. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 3:00 pm

Well, after Washburn gets traded later this week, I’m sure they can set Batista out on the mound every fifth day and let opposing teams take batting practice off of him for the rest of the season.

  117. Dennisss on July 26th, 2009 3:01 pm

The song “Free Falling” — was that Tom Petty?

  118. hoser on July 26th, 2009 3:01 pm

Go ahead, construct a table from Fangraphs data: I know this will be mangled

    war $ innings player
    ——————————-
    1.9 7.75M 83 Bedard
    0 5k 0 pitching machine
    -.1 12.25M 28.2 Silva
    -.1 9.5M 48 Batista

More Bedard please. If we get another 20 innings, he could be a 2.5 WAR player.

  119. Sports on a Schtick on July 26th, 2009 3:02 pm

Read this in the LA Times today.

In the wild card era there have been 22 teams with at least an eight-game lead in their division. Only one (95 Angels) did not make the playoffs.

  120. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 3:03 pm

The song “Free Falling” — was that Tom Petty?

    It was indeed.

Is Branyan regressing past the mean at this point?

  122. big hawna on July 26th, 2009 3:04 pm

Put the over/under on HRs the rest of 09 at 5.

  123. scott19 on July 26th, 2009 3:05 pm

Though the pitching machine still costs less than any of those guys…

  124. gregry17 on July 26th, 2009 3:05 pm

Is this the same team from last week?

No. Langerhans is on the bench. He comes to the team, the team wins 3 series straight, and he gets benched. Hardly any SO’s…Hit the ball hard all the time, made evry single play in the field and gets benched. I smell fish.

  125. MsofEnchantment on July 26th, 2009 3:06 pm

Over, but the way it’s going that may be all he gives us.

  126. hoser on July 26th, 2009 3:10 pm

    WAR/$ pitching machine = 0
    WAR/$ Erik Bedard = 1.9/7.75M = infinitely better.

Even if you could play the pitching machine, it would probably have to be paid the league minimum and I bet it would be worse than Horatio Ramirez.

  127. Marinerman1979 on July 26th, 2009 3:12 pm

I wonder if seattle will even try and get Ian snell. He has talent, but lacks it up stairs.

I’m still wondering if it’s possible to fare much worse than Ramirez when he was here…

Though, I’ll admit that the pitching machine with a better WAR stat than either Silva or Batista is hilarious! :)

  135. naviomelo on July 26th, 2009 3:31 pm

I’m just happy we have people here that know what’s going on in Ian Snell’s head, that’s all. Most of us don’t have major leaguers telling us about their mental shortcomings. And if they don’t tell us themselves, how would we know that they’re talentless “upstairs”?

ITA, msb, as I sit here with my blazing red face from a stupidity generated burn. But I’m an adult, able to make my own stupid choices; a baby is defenseless.

  160. G-Man on July 26th, 2009 6:57 pm

Well, if this teams keeps tanking, does that hurt their position as “reluctant” sellers?

It depends on whom they’re selling. For Washburn, some would say that they have a better chance of resigning him if they don’t trade him (though I say it doesn’t matter, especially when Scott Boras is the guy’s agent).

As for any other trade bait, as someone said earlier, who is there to sell?

  161. Lauren, token chick on July 26th, 2009 7:24 pm

That was horribly depressing, and great seats behind home plate didn’t help. They may have made it worse.

  162. Marinerman1979 on July 26th, 2009 7:24 pm

    Escobar to the M’s???? hmmm.

  163. Jeff Nye on July 26th, 2009 7:32 pm

So far, that’s just a rumor, and I’ve only heard it from Baker.

  164. Mister on July 26th, 2009 7:54 pm

Hardy or Escobar for Washburn getting legs

  165. Jeff Nye on July 26th, 2009 8:05 pm

I’d be really surprised (but ecstatic) if we could pry Escobar away from the Brewers; Hardy would be just fine.

  166. Axtell on July 26th, 2009 8:10 pm

Jeff, how much would you be willing to give up to get Escobar? For our purposes, the younger Escobar seems to be a better fit, but I know how highly regarded he is in the Brewer organization.

  167. MarinerFan on July 26th, 2009 8:17 pm

Man I would love to get Escobar over Hardy, but I think we would get Hardy because of what Axtell said, “He is highly regarded.” Any other rumors you guys hearing?

  168. Jeff Nye on July 26th, 2009 8:27 pm

Well, I’m just a lowly mod, not an analyst. But my thought is that it’d take a lot to get Escobar. He’s one of the best young prospects in baseball at a premium position.

It’s highly unlikely that Washburn + Morrow would get it done; you’d have to add one or maybe two more serious prospects. It’s not impossible that it’d take Triunfel to get a deal done, in fact.

A trade for JJ Hardy is probably a lot more likely.

  169. MarinerFan on July 26th, 2009 8:49 pm

Ya what about Washburn Morrow and Wladimir

  170. Soonerman22 on July 26th, 2009 9:01 pm

I don’t know if there is any truth to this (so take it for what it is worth)…

But on the post game show for the Mariners game they were talking about Morrow and Clement to Cleveland, Cliff Lee to Tampa, and Scott Kazmir and the Rays top SS prospect to us.

That being said I have also heard the more tams you get involved in a trade the less likely it is to happen. Plus I am not sure about Kazmir. I know he was highly regarded at one point, an “Ace”, but seems to have fallen off and not being able to go long in games. It seems with each year he become more and more like Erik Bedard 2.0
