Per Drayer, they want Silva to get on the mound at some point before the end of the season, and then hopefully go off to winter ball to get going again.

  2. Carson on August 26th, 2009 7:09 pm

Yes, we can hear you Mike.

    Heh, this is funny.

  3. Jeff Nye on August 26th, 2009 7:09 pm

Someone should tell them the sound is back on.

  4. Liam on August 26th, 2009 7:09 pm

I think FSN forgot to cut to commercial. Hearing Dave and Blowers make chit chat.

  5. wokster on August 26th, 2009 7:10 pm

I love Hot-feeds, all TV should be like this hah!

Yes we can hear you Mike

  6. TWownsU on August 26th, 2009 7:10 pm

That was interesting. It would’ve been funny to hear something not fit for tv.

  7. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 7:11 pm

Is this the worst WAK ATTACK line up of the year? I think so!

  8. Liam on August 26th, 2009 7:15 pm

The safe is empty, this might be their lowest draw of the season.

  9. bearcatsoftball on August 26th, 2009 7:16 pm

Why is Ichiro! getting so many days off? Is he nursing an injury?

  10. msb on August 26th, 2009 7:20 pm

Why is Ichiro! getting so many days off? Is he nursing an injury?

he has a slightly strained calf, and Wak is afraid that if he comes back too soon, with the way he bats, he’ll bolt out of the batters box and do real damage to it.

  11. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 7:20 pm

Bearcat – Ichiro has a calf strain. He may be back tomorrow or Friday.

  12. msb on August 26th, 2009 7:21 pm

Boy, it is more than just that stretch of live mikes at the start– the sound FX and music is three times as loud as it needs to be (even for Fox) and the mikes were cutting in and out for a minute there.

  13. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 7:22 pm

    Great AB by Hannahan…

  14. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 7:23 pm

I seem to remember that Baker had some comment earlier this week that Wak was saying that Silva would come back to the *bullpen* which is pretty ballsy of him if I’m remembering right/am not deluded.

A score! Whoo-hoo! Can take a nap now until the eighth inning.

  15. TWownsU on August 26th, 2009 7:23 pm

    Left-center field HR for Lopez.

  16. bearcatsoftball on August 26th, 2009 7:24 pm

    Thanks msb and Dirk.

The outfield bleachers sure looked empty on that Lopez HR. Tough break, although it is a Wednesday night and they are playing the A’s….

  17. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 7:24 pm

Lopez only Homers when the count is 2-0.

  18. crazyray7391 on August 26th, 2009 7:29 pm

Somebody needs to tell Wilson that only Sweeney is allowed to give out hugs.

  19. tgf on August 26th, 2009 7:31 pm

That does take guts, putting Silva into a major league game. To pitch. Unless you are down 10 runs or so, and just decide to mail it in.

  20. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 7:34 pm

That does take guts, putting Silva into a major league game. To pitch. Unless you are down 10 runs or so, and just decide to mail it in.

Yeah, I’m thinking, do we really need two Batistas down there? I assume this would be after the September call ups, otherwise, Batista Numero Uno might have to hit the road to make room.

  21. Liam on August 26th, 2009 7:34 pm

I don’t think Dave knows the wild card standings. He narrated the walk off win for the Red Sox against Chicago, then said that the Mariners could gain ground against Chicago.

  22. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 7:36 pm

And I’ve been shocked at how Batista’s kept his mouth shut this season about what I’m sure is a lot of discontentment, but can we count on Silva to do the same?

If last year is any indication, I think not. Let’s see Griffey tickle shit talk away.

  23. Liam on August 26th, 2009 7:38 pm

And I’ve been shocked at how Batista’s kept his mouth shut this season

I’m not sure whose blog I read it on, (Stone, Baker, Divish) but they said that they hadn’t talked to Batista all year and didn’t expect to in the future

  24. naviomelo on August 26th, 2009 7:40 pm

I guess nobody talked to Saunders about bunting.

  25. Breadbaker on August 26th, 2009 7:40 pm

I know the game is taking place a long way away from the pennant race against a team that is not very good at all, but there are few things in baseball I find more satisfying than beating the Oakland A’s.

  26. Liam on August 26th, 2009 7:42 pm

Rob was meat, there’s no way he should have been sent.

  27. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 7:42 pm

My god, what a baby you are, Johnson. Won’t come at the plate when he’s the runner either!

  28. TWownsU on August 26th, 2009 7:43 pm

Wow he was out by like 10 feet. Did the 3rd base coach tell him to go?

  29. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 7:48 pm

Part of the probelm with “watching” games MLB Gameday at work is I have no idae what happend other than “In play, out(s)”.

Rob was meat, there’s no way he should have been sent.

Oh, okay. So we made a base running SNAFU. Again….

  30. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 7:50 pm

    “idae” like “Caesar”… or not.

  31. Breadbaker on August 26th, 2009 7:56 pm

Why doesn’t Hannahan tag on that instead of going halfway? If he doesn’t catch it, he scores either way.

  32. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 8:02 pm

Why doesn’t Hannahan tag on that instead of going halfway?

Perhaps yet another base running goof?

My results based analysis has determined that it worked out okay.

  33. Liam on August 26th, 2009 8:08 pm

I’m not sure Hannahan scores on that play if he doesn’t go halfway.

  34. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 8:09 pm

Bill Hall and Jose Lopez High Fiving! Yeah!!!!

  35. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 8:12 pm

I don’t know why I’m surprised that they’re flying the flag at half mast at Safeco and someone put together a banner for Kennedy, not just another Rally Fries beg. Gave me a chocked up moment, which usually only happens when Johnson’s behind the plate.

  36. Liam on August 26th, 2009 8:17 pm

Got a Pat Borders mention on the “Building to the Future” graphic. He had a 6 hit night back in 2003.

  37. mw3 on August 26th, 2009 8:20 pm

Juneau I was surprised and delighted by the banner for Teddy as well.

In two at bats tonight Saunders stride has been more toward the pitcher than I’ve seen all year. This is a good sign although it might take some growing pains for Saunders to become acustomed.

  38. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 8:28 pm

Good pitching by French to leave that man on 2nd after the lead off double. Usually that is something I see the Mariners do very well.. get a lead off double and leave the man stranded. Oh wait I’ve already seen us do that twice tonight.
    :-@

  39. Lauren, token chick on August 26th, 2009 8:29 pm

    66 pitches for French? Sweeeeet.

  40. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 8:31 pm

Wow, Balls 3 and 4 to Hannahan looked like strikes on Gameday…

  41. Lauren, token chick on August 26th, 2009 8:34 pm

    J. Lo!

The other week when I was checking the game score on a friend’s computer, he hit a home run and I had to yell “J. Lo!!!” When told it was a nickname for a baseball player, she said “what’s his name, Jose Lopez?” Well. Yeah. I guess it’s an easily guessable name.

  42. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 8:39 pm

I’m curious how many times in ’09 the Mariners have struck out with a runner on third with less than 2 outs.

  43. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 8:43 pm

Bill Hall wears # 3 on his jersey and # 2 wristbands

  44. kcw2 on August 26th, 2009 8:47 pm

Juneau: Mast is on a ship.

  45. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 8:48 pm

Maybe someone can educate me here.

On MLB Gameday for each pitch it lists 4 bits of information: Speed, Break, PFX, and Pitch type.

Type and speed are obvious. Break I’m assuming is downward movement in inches compared to a trajectory based on the angle it was thrown (again I’m assuming). However what is PFX? Is it horizontal movement? If so what is that based on?

  46. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 8:53 pm

    Kcw2: Ok.

  47. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 8:56 pm

NO NO NO NO NO Miguel Batista warming up in the bullpen NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  48. Breadbaker on August 26th, 2009 8:57 pm

The replay may have helped the M’s, since French isn’t throwing batting practice anymore.

  49. cdowley on August 26th, 2009 8:57 pm

“There might be a finger from the other bench, but it isn’t pointing foul”

CLASSIC, Dave. That busted me up so hard I teared up…

  50. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 8:58 pm

NO NO NO NO NO Miguel Batista coming into the game NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  51. Jake N. on August 26th, 2009 8:59 pm

You gotta be fucken kidding me not Batista. We have a lead for fuck sake!

  52. mw3 on August 26th, 2009 8:59 pm

    Oh for heavens sake, no!

  53. Jeff Nye on August 26th, 2009 9:00 pm

    Well, that’s game over.

  54. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:00 pm

Having Batista come on brings some excitement back into the game.

  55. TWownsU on August 26th, 2009 9:02 pm

The Mariners white flag of surrender enters the game!

  56. Jake N. on August 26th, 2009 9:02 pm

An umpire that is a Mariners fan Yahhh!

  57. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 9:06 pm

I think this umpire may have a slightly wider and shorter strike zone than average if Gameday is to be believed.

  58. flashbeak on August 26th, 2009 9:08 pm

Oh god. I’m starting to miss Josh Wilson.

  59. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:08 pm

Dirk, by watching on Gameday, you miss all the dirty words being mouthed by the A’s hitter as he stormed away from the plate.

And you’ve just missed Wilson carefully checking his bat as he stomped back to the dugout as though a crack would make him strike out.

  60. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 9:08 pm

Jack Wilson looks overmatched at the plate EVERY TIME. doesn’t matter who is pitching

  61. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 9:10 pm

Must have been a big crack…

  62. Jake N. on August 26th, 2009 9:12 pm

Am I wrong for thinking that having two like leftys throw back to back, not the most advantageous for the M’s. Would it not be better having Snell split them?

  63. flashbeak on August 26th, 2009 9:13 pm

If Jack continues to make himself look that bad with the bat, I’m not a fan of the prospect of him manning shortstop next season, I don’t care how good his defense is.

  64. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:14 pm

Yeah, I think the crack’s so big that the pitch goes right through it.

Batista gets through another inning! Who-hoo!

  65. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 9:15 pm

OH MY GOSH did Batista really just have an efficient inning with NO WALKS. I’m freakin out maaaan!

  66. Jake N. on August 26th, 2009 9:16 pm

Give Jack a chance, he has been riding the bench with an injury. Takes time to get the timing and eye back together. Yah he looks bad ATM, but he can hit.

  67. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 9:17 pm

Juneau, I have this image of Bugs Bunny or Elmer Fudd walking up to the plate with a bat with a Giant hole in the end of it.

Then again that might describe the entire Mariners’ offense.

  68. G-Man on August 26th, 2009 9:17 pm

Who did Sims and Blowers say asked to be released?

  69. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 9:18 pm

^Brad Penny from the Boston Red Sox

  70. Liam on August 26th, 2009 9:21 pm

Sims on Langerhans walk off home runs, “Two in eighteen days… at home!?”

Yes, the walk off home runs were at home.

  71. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:21 pm

Wow, Davis has had some bad moments out there tonight.

  72. msb on August 26th, 2009 9:22 pm

^Brad Penny from the Boston Red Sox

the rats are fleeing the ship?

  73. Liam on August 26th, 2009 9:23 pm

The third base coach was giving Lopez the green light. That should have been an out.

  74. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:24 pm

Maybe the Red Sox could trade disgruntled pitchers, and get Jamie Moyer.

Is anyone looking at the third base coach tonight as they round the bag? I mean, it’s worked two out of three times, so I don’t know why I’m bitching, but it’s just weird.

  75. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2009 9:24 pm

That was a TERRIBLE decision to send Lopez. If that throw was at all on-line, he’s out by six feet.

  76. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 9:25 pm

I don’t understand why Wak does not pinch run for Sweeny right now… no way he scores if there was to be a base hit.

  77. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2009 9:26 pm

Not that I complain about runs, but that is lousy fundamental baseball. A runner should never be sent unless he’s about a 7.5 runner when the fielder’s that shallow.

  78. G-Man on August 26th, 2009 9:26 pm

With two out, you aggressively wave ‘em in from third.

I have been trying to convince people on my softball team that the number of outs makes a diff, to no avail.

  79. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 9:30 pm

That was a TERRIBLE decision to send Lopez. If that throw was at all on-line, he’s out by six feet.

Perhaps they felt the risk was worth it since it’s a one run game and there were already two outs?

  80. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 26th, 2009 9:42 pm

I was hoping Wilson would K for the GOLDEN SOMBRERO

  81. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 9:42 pm

Eek. AA coming in for the ‘save.’

  82. flashbeak on August 26th, 2009 9:47 pm

I was hoping Wilson would K for the GOLDEN SOMBRERO

I was hoping Jack Wilson would strike out because just maybe that means he would get the night off tomorrow night and I wouldn’t have to deal with another night of a shortstop who hits worse than a pitcher.

  83. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2009 9:49 pm

Man, this guy Everidge is a big ol’ side of beef, isn’t he?

  84. Hud67 on August 26th, 2009 9:49 pm

I think DA has stock in Tums…and heart medication.

  85. Jeff Nye on August 26th, 2009 9:50 pm

We’re going to really regret not selling high on Aardsma.

  86. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2009 9:50 pm

Aardsma, I’ve had my fill of “interesting” this year. Just lock it down, homey.

  87. Dirk on August 26th, 2009 9:54 pm

I’m convinced Aardsma is going to have one of those 12 pitch, 3 walk then 9 pitch, 3 Strikeout innings one of these days.

  88. EricL on August 26th, 2009 9:54 pm

And lock it down he did.

And yay. Another beer for me. (Every M’s win from #65 on is a beer won from my brother-in-law in a preseason bet.)

  89. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2009 9:57 pm

We’re going to really regret not selling high on Aardsma.

    I agree, Jeff.

Gratifying to see Garciaparra strike out against us, personally. When he was with the Red Sox, he used to just kill us.

Granted, he was killing the whole AL for awhile there, but he really seemed to get clutch on us back in his prime.

  90. Liam on August 26th, 2009 9:58 pm

What would you have had to pay if the Mariners didn’t win 65 games?

  91. msb on August 26th, 2009 9:59 pm

FSN Producer? Can we get a show of El Ben Show during the anthem, while Ichiro is still an honorary member?

  92. Liam on August 26th, 2009 10:06 pm

Bill Krueger taking shots at Moneyball and Billy Beane, “Three strait losing seasons for Oakland” “You think you’re the smartest guy in the world.”

On top of the irony, saying this while one of his points was about the cash for clunkers program that ended on Monday.

  93. EricL on August 26th, 2009 10:13 pm

What would you have had to pay if the Mariners didn’t win 65 games?

He was convinced the team would have trouble winning 1/3 of their games. (He’s the type that tends to talk first, think later – despite being in biotech.) I told him I’d give him a beer for every win under 75 the M’s finished after the season. He said one for each win over his guess.

The cutoff point was 64 (I owe him one)/65 (he owes me one).

We’ve already agreed Keystone Light is not an acceptable form of payment.

  94. littlesongs on August 26th, 2009 10:16 pm

    Bill Krueger taking shots…

    …would be YouTube gold.

    I miss Dave Valle.

  95. juneau_fan on August 26th, 2009 10:18 pm

I’m gonna kill Grandpa Keystone Light myself just to shut him up.

That’s the only problem with watching every game, all season long. I swear, I can say all the lines along with the actors by this point in the season.

And that old man screaming Nancy Boy is on my last nerve.

  96. joser on August 26th, 2009 10:25 pm

^Brad Penny from the Boston Red Sox

the rats are fleeing the ship?

Nah, he just has Silva disease: sucks too much to stay in the rotation, costs to much to outright, so he’s been sent to the bullpen. Which he’s not happy with. Between that and the ugly Billy Wagner situation (is Papelbon still tweeting shit about him now that he’s on the team?) the Fenway bullpen is not going to be a pleasant place to be. And they’re still probably going to play in the postseason (put that in your “chemistry creates wins” pipe and smoke it).

  97. Liam on August 26th, 2009 10:36 pm

Brad Penny has been a 2.1 WAR pitcher this year.

  98. skipj on August 26th, 2009 11:06 pm

How many broken bats tonight? I counted at least 5, including Branyan’s certain homer, but for the broken bat.

  99. truntle on August 27th, 2009 1:36 am

So, I just got back from the game. And my friends and I were having a little fun watching Jack Wilson while we were there. That guy is hilarious in the field. Before every inning he would draw something in the dirt in the hole between third and short. I think it was a “T”, my sister thinks it was an “F”…were not sure. Then between each pitch he would take his glove off and walk five steps forward and manicure the dirt then walk back into position. It was pretty hilarious. Watch him next time you’re there.

  100. SonOfZavaras on August 27th, 2009 11:53 am

Hell, truntle…I saw Wilson look as though he wanted to talk to his bat after he struck out.

Jack Wilson may be our new resident eccentric.
