Game 132, Angels at Mariners

Jeff Nye · August 31, 2009 at 6:38 pm · Filed Under Game Threads, Mariners

Saunders vs. French, 7:05 pm.

No Ichiro again today, sadly.

Lineups:
Franklin Gutierrez – CF
Josh Wilson (ugh!) – 3B
Jose Lopez – 2B
Mike Sweeney – Designated Hugger
Bill Hall – RF
Hannahan – 1B (pour one out for Branyan)
Jack Wilson – SS
Rob Johnson – whatever the heck it is that he does
Ryan Langerhans – LF

Angels:
Figgins
Abreu
Hunter
Guerrero
Rivera
Morales
Kendrick
Napoli
Aybar

This one is probably going to be painful.

Poor Ackley, first day at Safeco, and he’s been tickled by Griffey and hugged by Sweeney.

  2. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 6:52 pm

OUCH! from Angie when Dustin didn’t know whose bats he was using during BP.

“Those were Yuni Betancourt’s bats. Don’t worry, plenty of hits left in them.”

  3. Jeff Nye on August 31st, 2009 6:53 pm

Someone should tell him that he has enough money in the bank now that he doesn’t have to shop at Ross anymore, too.

    That shirt was awful.

  4. Liam on August 31st, 2009 6:54 pm

If this one is going to be painful and Jack Zduriencik brought in 8/10 players listed, then what does that say about him?

  5. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 7:04 pm

Is it me, or is Kruger high on crack?

  6. flashbeak on August 31st, 2009 7:06 pm

“Here Comes The Rabbit?” What does Bill Krueger smoke?

  7. samregens on August 31st, 2009 7:12 pm

Games with no Ichiro in them make me sad, sad, sad!

  8. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 7:14 pm

Wak went all Ichiro-esque on us, by saying he looked deeply into his eyes and did not believe that he should go.

And no, Krueger, I don’t go to the dog races.

  9. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 31st, 2009 7:15 pm

billy krueger haikus are myfavorite. what was it tonight?

  10. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 7:17 pm

He was just yelling rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! at us, this the crack suggestions.

    Oh, Hannahan.

Ichiro’s first game back in April was also vs. the Angels. Anyone remember what he did?

  13. Sports on a Schtick on August 31st, 2009 7:41 pm

If we’re in pain then the Royals are in agony.

  14. msb on August 31st, 2009 7:41 pm

French and Saunders …. la ladela la la

Rob Johnson – whatever the heck it is that he does

he just emanates a glow of catching goodness.

I was there. It was very, very cool.

I remember looking up and thinking “Man, I think he got under it a little bit too much”, then looking down to see where it peaked, and then noticed that by the time I looked down, it was nearly over the wall.

Plus, the Griffey home run the same night, about 10 seats to the left, and 1 row down.

And it was Ichiro’s first game playing in the same game as Griffey (at least on the same team).

  16. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 31st, 2009 7:49 pm

wow. washburn gave up 5 runs tonight against the rays w/o recording an out. oooouuuuuccccchhhhh

  17. Adam S on August 31st, 2009 7:51 pm

It’s pretty amazing that the Mariners are running out 6 or 7 AAAA players and some people, including those in the organization, still claim they’re in the wild card race.

  18. killer_ewok18 on August 31st, 2009 7:56 pm

Just a random thought: Has a mariner gotten a hit with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position yet this year?

  19. coasty141 on August 31st, 2009 7:57 pm

    Mike Sweeney – Designated Hugger

-Well he did clean out Waks 18lb salmon. That will get you into a lineup when your out of a playoff race.

  20. killer_ewok18 on August 31st, 2009 8:01 pm

Why couldn’t Wlad hit like Vlad?

  21. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 31st, 2009 8:02 pm

gee… didn’t see this coming. French just throws it down the middle… a la brandon morrow in May

  22. Liam on August 31st, 2009 8:04 pm

French is challenging RRS for the best Washburn impersonation.

  23. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 8:07 pm

    Thank god it’s finally over.

  24. Liam on August 31st, 2009 8:08 pm

    Thank god it’s finally over.

The Mariners are batting so not just yet.

  25. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 8:10 pm

How did I miss Beltre’s testicles finally being cured?

  26. Paul L on August 31st, 2009 8:13 pm

You sure can tell that there’s a talent gap between the two teams…

  27. JerBear on August 31st, 2009 8:21 pm

How did I miss Beltre’s testicles finally being cured?

I don’t know… have you been watching them this whole time?

  28. Dirk on August 31st, 2009 8:22 pm

I’m not an expert or anything but MLB Gameday is calling Pitches 2-5 to Abreu as:

    86 MPR Changeup
    86 MPH Fastball
    86 MPH Changeup
    89 MPH Fastball

Really? I think the algorithm may be off…

  29. flashbeak on August 31st, 2009 8:25 pm

Joe Saunders has terrible stuff tonight and can’t throw a strike – he’s awfully lucky he gets to face the Mariners.

  30. flashbeak on August 31st, 2009 8:28 pm

And Hannahan is so bad offensively it haunts me.

Can we just snatch Ackley out of the stands and put him in the lineup?

  31. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 8:29 pm

I don’t know… have you been watching them this whole time?

    With bated breath.

    Sumbitch.

It’s gonna be a long game.

  32. Colm on August 31st, 2009 8:29 pm

I haven’t seen Hannahan play in person this season.

That sounds like a tune by The Chieftains that they’re playing when he walks to the plate.

  33. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 31st, 2009 8:30 pm

the m’s have 2 hits in 13 innings. as Wak would say ”that’s awfully awful”

  34. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 8:31 pm

    Final score? 9-1?

We’ll get the pity score in the 9th, I call.

  35. Paul L on August 31st, 2009 8:32 pm

    Que Sera Sera…

  36. EagleBonesFalconHawk on August 31st, 2009 8:36 pm

i bet my dad last night a round of golf at chambers bay that Saunders would shut out the M’s. halfway to free golf at chambers woot woot!

  37. HighlightsAt11 on August 31st, 2009 8:39 pm

You sure can tell that there’s a talent gap between the two teams…

Just looking at the starting lineup BA’s, everyone in LAA’s lineup, except for Kendrick, has a higher BA than everyone in the M’s lineup. And the way Gut has been hitting (hot and cold) that may change by the end of the game.

How did this come to be?

  38. apunetid on August 31st, 2009 8:40 pm

That’s quite the game they have going on in Texas!

  39. flashbeak on August 31st, 2009 8:42 pm

Rob Johnson, never swing a bat in my line of vision ever again.

I am so set on Adam Moore making sure I don’t have to see the daily Rob ever again.

  40. HighlightsAt11 on August 31st, 2009 8:52 pm

    LA is on fire!

    I mean LAA and LAD.

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  41. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 9:00 pm

Uh, oh, they’re to nine already with two more innings to go. Should I up my guess of 9-1?

  42. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 9:07 pm

    Damn.

  43. msb on August 31st, 2009 9:07 pm

    Hey fellas, Ackley already signed.

No need to prove to him how much you need him.

  44. kenshabby on August 31st, 2009 9:20 pm

If we’re in pain then the Royals are in agony.

Thanks for the swell link! That made my visit here entirely worthwhile. Wait, was there a game being played tonight?

  45. naviomelo on August 31st, 2009 9:30 pm

17 consecutive innings without a run.

  46. juneau_fan on August 31st, 2009 9:38 pm

Looks like nearly the entire homeplate fancy seats have emptied out. And there’s a definite echo quality to the PA system.

Come to think of it, I bet I could get an echo here too.

    HeeeeLLLLlllooooo???

  47. flashbeak on August 31st, 2009 9:39 pm

Why do I still waste time watching this team?

  48. Colm on August 31st, 2009 9:41 pm

Oh look at those nice Angels putting in the guy with the almost-double-figures ERA in the ninth.

Any danger we can score a consolation run?

  49. Colm on August 31st, 2009 9:43 pm

    Nope…

  50. kenshabby on August 31st, 2009 10:05 pm

Now the Angels have acquired Thome and *giggle* John Garland. Talk about a cancellation effect.

  51. cdowley on August 31st, 2009 10:14 pm

Wrong LA, kenshabby. The Dodgers got them, not the Angels.

  52. mln on August 31st, 2009 10:27 pm

Is it safe to bring out the women and children now?

That beatdown by the Angels was scary, almost as scary as this news item.

  53. egreenlaw9 on September 1st, 2009 3:04 am

    [that was unnecessary]
