A game with playoff implications for your Monday

DMZ · September 7, 2009 at 7:41 am · Filed Under Mariners

Tacoma! Plays Colorado Springs for the last game of their season. Winner heads to the playoffs… and the loser is done for the year. The Colorado Springs starter was supposed to be Russ Ortiz, who I understand quit after the big league club didn’t call him up when rosters expanded. Gaby Hernandez goes for Tacoma.

1:30, radio only… or you could head on down to Cheney.

I know the weather is supposed to improve as the day goes on (it better, or I’m not Bumbershooting this year) but sitting in Cheney on a day like this… sounds like a good reason to listen on the radio.

Finally, USSM is acknowledging that the Mariners are back in the … oh

Actually joser it’s a pretty nice morning down here in Tacoma right now. If I didn’t already have plans, that game would be quite tempting

OK, so I’m torn here. Do we want the Rainiers to make the playoffs because making the playoffs is good? Or do we want to see less than a handful of prospects play briefly in Seattle a little earlier because our AAA team didn’t make the playoffs? Never mind, I just answered my own question.

Just in: Colorado Springs is going to start beak-out prospect Samuel Dedundo, called up today from Tulsa.

Huh, really. Up here we seem to be having our usual 4th of July weather on Labor Day this year. Running out of time but I-5 shouldn’t be bad today…. hmmm, what to do…..

Triple A: now we’re talking real baseball. Tacoma is the City of Destiny, right?

That would be hilarious. Can you imagine the reaction in the Colorado Springs dug-out? “Wait, it’s that Hernandez? Whoa, wait, WTF?”

Too bad FSN can’t televise it.

3-1 Rainiers in the bottom of the 2nd. Rainier could have put up a 5 spot in the bottom of the first. Click here to wath live stats.

    Playoffs!

  17. iHam on September 7th, 2009 5:19 pm

WHAT AN INNING!!! 2 players with two hits in the inning. Was “watching” on gameday…had to find a radio! 3 outs to go!!!

  18. iHam on September 7th, 2009 5:22 pm

On the radio: “Not a save situation…” No, Really?

  19. iHam on September 7th, 2009 5:28 pm

OK…Tacoma’s done it…now if the boys up the road can do the same !

Morrow should stay with the Rainiers for the playoffs. Zduriencik is selling out the Rainiers by bringing him up to the Mariners. Being a part of a playoff run is better for Morrow and the whole organization. The Mariners are going anywhere this year while the Rainiers are! I would even send down Carp and Vargas for the playoffs.

One question: what’s a “beak-out prospect”? What is the dude, half crow?

  22. bongo on September 7th, 2009 9:40 pm

The playoffs (5 game series with Sacramento) begin on Wednesday night, 7 PM at Cheney Stadium. Couldn’t purchase tickets through the Rainiers website. Are they sold out already??

  23. GoMariners on September 7th, 2009 10:01 pm

You can just get general admission $6 dollar tickets at the gate. They don’t have seat numbers assigned to them.

  24. wabbles on September 7th, 2009 10:58 pm

No, no, no. See, here’s the thing. Wednesday night is Pub Quiz Night here in Port Angeles. I can’t miss that, I’m an integral part of my team, which wins about twice a month. So, can’t they start the playoffs on Saturday or something? (I have a ticket to Beethoven’s Fifth on Friday. I’m not an integral part of that but I’d still like to go, especially since I’ve already paid for the ticket and last weekend sucked.)

They don’t need to send anyone down to Tacoma they are bringing Hill up and he’s got good stuff.

  26. mike on September 8th, 2009 2:04 pm

Div wrapped it up nicely with the ticket info.

  27. joser on September 8th, 2009 4:28 pm

The Sal Fasano mugshot at the bottom of the wrap up is a classic.
