Good news, everyone

“I know you’re all disappointed we lost Brandon–”
“Yeah!”
“Mad as hell!”
“–but we have to be happy for him, don’t we?”
“Yeah.”
“I guess.”
“Besides, the club’s sent us a little something in return, to help us out with our pitching staff.”
“Really?”
“Probably Batista.”
“It’s not Batista. You ready? You’re going to be surprised.”
“Do you think it’s Felix?”
“There’s no way it’s Felix.”
“Now, he’s only won fifty two games as a starter…”
“Oh my god it’s Felix.”
“It’s not Felix.”
“…but this proud Venezuelan, STANDING INNNN AT SIX FEET FOOOOURR INCHEESSS…”
“It’s Felix.”
“Does he have an option left? How is this even possible?”
“…WEIGHING IN AT TWO-HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE POUNDS…”
“It’s Felix! It has to be Felix! Oh my god we’re the PCL Champions!”
“This is going to be the greatest game of my career.”
“…CARLOS SILVA!”
“Shit.”
“Worst. Worst game.”

From gritty, zillion-dollar-per-season low-end starter…to rehabbing master chef…to his triumphant return as a Mesa-esque gas can (only without even the freaking velocity of Jose Mesa)…alas, we’ve seen the dynamic career of Carlos Silva come full circle!

I guess it’s inappropriate to wish that he’d just fall in a hole and bury himself with sand.

Carlos Silva is a shovel-ready project.

    Two birds with one stone.

-Silve continues to work his way towards his eventual DFA.

-The cup of coffee for players like Tuiasosopo, Olson, Moore and Vargas comes one game sooner.

“The circle is complete. When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.” 2 IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 1K, 1HR…

    Oh wait. Never mind.

I will never understand why I feel sorry for him. Never. I don’t want to. But I do, and I don’t get it.

Let’s put this into perspective though.

Without the revenue sapping contracts of Silva and Batista, all any of us would do is argue about the good players we could sign to replace them.

Think about how much time those two have saved all of us by being worthless.

Kind of gives you pause doesn’t it?

Very, very funny! I laughed out loud to this one. I feel very sorry for the poor Rainiers…

    225.

    Heh, that’s a good one.

I hope they’re just out to embarrass him at this point.

    Only 2 hits?

(really cool light saber buzzing sound) “You’re only a master of evil and terrible pitching Carlos.” (bzzzz…bzzzzzzz) You can’t win, you know that? Heck, you can’t get out of the third inning in AAA. (bzzz…bzzzz) If you get DFA’ed, the Mariners still owe about $25 million over two years.”
    Oh wait. Never mind.

You know, I’d actually be surprised if they DFA’d him. More likely they’ll put him into the “Designated Mateo Memorial Gas-Can” role lately occupied by Batista. The good thing about Silva’s recent consistent suckiness is that he has no basis for claiming he deserves anything better (though that probably won’t stop him). If he some decent outings next year where he pitches an inning at a time and doesn’t blow up the team, they may be able to move him to a team that thinks it needs “veteran bullpen” help (hello, Omar!) in a deal where the M’s assume all the salary but get some low-level org filler in return (which is what would make this better than a DFA). This seems to be Zduriencik’s modus, as we’ve seen with Betancourt: find a way to extract some value even from seemingly dead weight. Of course you can’t always take KC to the cleaners, but it’s obvious the M’s FO has faith in their scouting and ability to find some interesting pieces bumping around in the bottom of other systems. It probably also helps when explaining to ownership what happened to all of those millions.

This Rainiers would have been happier if the M’s had just catered a buffet for them serving only turd sandwiches over sending them Silva.

  15. dsmiley on September 12th, 2009 2:37 pm

For Silva, that’s actually not that bad…

I will never understand why I feel sorry for him. Never. I don’t want to. But I do, and I don’t get it.

Exactly how I feel. (shaking my head with a blank stare)

Think of it this way: there will never be leftovers from the postgame spread. The clubhouse guy has to be happy.

  18. juneau_fan on September 12th, 2009 3:44 pm

And the irony is, they may have pulled Morrow for nothing, as the forecast continues for rain in Arlington through the weekend.

  19. dsmiley on September 12th, 2009 3:53 pm

Hmm, interesting box score. In Silva’s defense (I can’t believe I just used those words together), he didn’t start the game. It was already 6-1 when he entered the game. He didn’t start and the Rainiers only scored two runs by the end, so he didn’t really cost them the game.

Still…not exactly a promising performance for someone with an $48 million contract.

    [too far]

    Classy.

    Yeah… that was a punch I should’ve pulled. Sorry.
