Pitchers And Catchers

And the countdown is over. Pitchers and catchers report today, marking the official beginning of spring training, and the kickoff to the 2010 season. Okay, so, the entire day consists of people showing up, unpacking bags, and taking physicals, so high drama it is not, but it’s still symbolic of the end of winter.
Welcome back, baseball.
Wahoo can’t wait I love this time of year when baseball begins. This year is extra exciting cause we are selling our house and looking at moving to Seattle. Go M’s

We’re just that much closer.
To quote former president Gerald Ford, “Our long national nightmare is over.” Spring Training is here! YES!
Hooray! With a trade or a signing seemingly weekly, this has been the most enjoyable Mariner off-season in my lifetime. I can’t wait to watch the finished product in action.
The M’s had a 24 win increase from last season to the previous season. Anyway that happens again this year? Ok, I will settle for half that since Jack Magic made some unbelievable moves this off season. 85 wins plus 12 puts us at 97 wins for this season? Hey its spring training and anything is possible right now.
97 wins with this roster? Stranger things have happened.
Not very often, though.
Today is important, we can see Felix and Lee in the same room and confirm it hasn’t been a 2 month dream :). God I can’t wait for spring and this season to start already.
I love this day. Tomorrow is even better. The next day better still and so on and on and on…..
OH Please..OH Please..baseball Gods, let this be the year the Mariners make the playoffs. Its been 9 long years since we have last been. As Mariner fans we have all payed our debt. The LAAAAAA fans are selfish and don’t know how to share. Teach them a lesson. We all thank you for the 116 win season but,THAT WAS 9 YEARS AGO 9 YEARS AGO! That is almost 1/3 of my lifetime. WOW! that is scary when I say it out loud. I will be good from now on. AS long as the Mariners make the playoffs.

It’s been an interesting winter, looks like a fun spring. I’ll start my week in Arizona March 14 in Tucson.
Hell, just a quarter of that would be fine with me. 91 wins sounds pretty damn good at this point.
May not get you into the playoff, but it really ought to put you into the hunt, which is what we’re looking for (at this point).
We’re tied for first!
Thus ends the long countdown that started last October. I love this time of year SO VERY MUCH.

I live about 30 minutes from the M’s facility and have been frequenting the spring training for the last ten years. The first few days are pretty slow but you can catch some bullpen sessions. By this weekend (maybe even Friday) they should have the gates open (they weren’t today but all the volunteers were there preparing to handle the fans and players cars were all over the place).

i stopped at the peoria field a couple years ago,one week “before” pitchers and catchers reported. mostly cause i’d never been there. and got some fantastic prices on close out t’s and hats. so if nothing else….

I made my flight, car, and hotel reservations for Phoenix last week. Can’t wait!
at some point tomorrow, various local tv stations will air the sight (and sound) of Mariner players heading out of the clubhouse, and walking down the sidewalk (baseball shoes clacking) to the fields.
AHHHHH! The nightmare of football and darkness is gone, baseball, nascar and daylight are back. The world is back in balance.
Speaking of pitchers and catchers I saw that Rob Johnson just needs to get more stretched out after his 3 surgeries this Fall. If he is not ready for prime time, it appears that he is out of options. He could be DL’d, assigned to extended spring training and then a rehab assignment in Tacoma. Otherwise, the M’s have to carry him or risk losing him. Is that right?

I want to know if Griffey is really going to come back Cut. I just think it’s funny he said he was going to when the trainer said he needed to lose some weight.
I hope to think back on this day, eight months from now, and reminisce, “that’s where this dream ride started.”

When did Griffey say he was going to lose some weight over the winter? That would be sweet if he lost 20lbs over the winter and smacked 30 HRs next year….. A guy can dream, can’t he???
With the beginning of the real season about to gear up into full swing, I find it hilariously appropriate that USSM is now supported by a “criminal defense attorney specializing in DUI and all other alcohol related offenses.”
