Game 7, Mariners at Rangers

Snell vs Feldman, 12:05 pm.

Last week, Snell pitched pretty well, but I felt like we needed to see him do it against better hitters before we got too excited. Well, here’s your chance, Ian. If he can get through this Texas line-up three times, that will be impressive.

In other news, Bradley gets the day off today, and because Langerhans was DFA’d, Byrnes gets the start in left with an RHP on the mound. This is one of the reasons why getting rid of Langerhans was stupid. But hey, at least Mascot only struck out twice yesterday.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Kotchman, 1B
Gutierrez, CF
Griffey, DH
Lopez, 3B
Byrnes, LF
Moore, C
Wilson, SS

    GO MARINERS!

Let’s carry some of that hitting over to today

  2. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 11:51 am

Lopez is going to have a big game today

  3. jjenson on April 11th, 2010 12:10 pm

Lets get 2 in a row today good luck guys.

  4. scottiedawg on April 11th, 2010 12:21 pm

Snell threw 58.6% of his pitches last year for strikes.
    His career pct is 62%.
He threw 61/100 pitches for strikes in his first start.
His start today will be pretty telling.

  5. jjenson on April 11th, 2010 12:23 pm

Bad first couple of batters for Snell. Hopefully he will start locating better.

  6. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:24 pm

Oh boy, oh boy. And not in a good way.

  7. IwearMsHats on April 11th, 2010 12:26 pm

The Rangers are a triple from the cycle in this inning.

  8. Liam on April 11th, 2010 12:27 pm

It was nice to see Wilson almost get to a ball that Lopez missed.

  9. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:27 pm

And here comes Cruz… If Snell can get a ground ball I’ll be really impressed.

  10. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:29 pm

Looks like Ian really wants to get the force at home.

  11. griffin on April 11th, 2010 12:30 pm

Snell already is having trouble, jeeez..

  12. sniper61 on April 11th, 2010 12:30 pm

If Snell can get a ground ball I’ll be really impressed

If by “ground ball” you mean a ball pitched to the ground, then he got it.

  13. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:31 pm

    Wow, Marinersmanjk, you called it.

It’ll be hilarious if Snell gets out of this. Welcome to our pain, Texas!

  14. marinersunbird on April 11th, 2010 12:32 pm

tvproducer–No HD on Seattle DISH network? SD OK. Thanks

  15. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 12:33 pm

    way to get outta it

  16. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:34 pm

He got out of that with 1 run… Wow… That may have been sheer luck, but I’m amazed we’re not down by at least 3.

  17. kbarnhouse on April 11th, 2010 12:36 pm

Maybe this game will go the opposite way it usually does. We’ll give up an early run, and then their offense will be constantly frustrated and get no runs.

  18. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 12:38 pm

    Jr. on fire

  19. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:39 pm

Snell has 30 pitches in the first inning, kbarnhouse. Unless he can get them to all start swinging at the first pitch, he’s going to be out soon. I guess it can happen…

  20. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:40 pm

Maybe Snell will go the way of baseball video games and throw 65 pitches in 9 innings…

  21. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:40 pm

THAT is why Eric Byrnes is the biggest badass in the mlb.

  22. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 12:41 pm

    Something brewing

  23. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:41 pm

    Okay guys, tie this up!

We want to love you, Moore.

  24. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 12:43 pm

It seems like Adam has grounded out to short in every AB of his big league career.

  25. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:43 pm

Well Dave if Sweeney continues to struggle, why not bring up Saunders?

  26. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:45 pm

Grrr…I wouldn’t know. Test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

  27. ayoon on April 11th, 2010 12:52 pm

This is going to be a long game…

  28. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:53 pm

Atta baby Snell. Serve it up, right down the middle.

  29. jjenson on April 11th, 2010 12:53 pm

Agreed ayoon this has the feeling of being a very long game.

  30. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 12:54 pm

how many stupid mistakes is moore going to make this year

  31. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 12:54 pm

Because of all the runs the M’s are going to score I assume.

  32. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 12:55 pm

What was up with Ichiro’s route to that Andrus liner?

  33. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 12:57 pm

How many stupid mistakes is Moore going to make this year?

    There, fixed it.

I’ll take a rookie’s occasional error over all the ‘wild pitches’ with Johnson behind the plate.

  34. Mrelli on April 11th, 2010 12:58 pm

I miss cliff lee more than ever

  35. mrmitra on April 11th, 2010 12:58 pm

Am I the only one that appreciates Gameday showing Snell with an 88 mph fastball and a 87 mph changeup?

  36. behappy on April 11th, 2010 12:58 pm

And Snell is our #2 SP, going to be a long season.

  37. behappy on April 11th, 2010 12:59 pm

It is like tee ball right now.

  38. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:00 pm

Can you say Nelson Cruz grand slam?

  39. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:01 pm

It’s funny how all of us yearn for Cliff when he still hasn’t pitched for us. I can’t wait for Bedard either. I might be the only one who likes him though..

  40. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:01 pm

Can you say Nelson Cruz sac fly?

  41. jjenson on April 11th, 2010 1:02 pm

I can’t wait for bedard either I think both Lee and Bedard come back things will turn around.

  42. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:02 pm

Can you say Nelson Cruz sac fly?

Either way the game is probably over.

  43. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 1:03 pm

Whaa? Moore threw one of the whirling runners out at second?

  44. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:04 pm

Ian might as well get an L-screen and throw some BP. We’d probably get out of this game faster.

  45. behappy on April 11th, 2010 1:04 pm

Why do the camera men never get the plays on camera?

  46. tubbabubba22 on April 11th, 2010 1:05 pm

    Ian is notttt looking good.

  47. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 1:06 pm

Ah, got it now. Yeah, I’ll take ‘error-prone’ Moore, thanks.

  48. finndawg on April 11th, 2010 1:08 pm

Not likely we’ll score more than 5 runs today…or really any day…

  49. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 1:10 pm

Not likely we’ll score more than 5 runs today…or really any day…

They also have to *stop* more runs from scoring. Defense can only do so much when balls are spraying all over the field.

And we’re only in the third inning. And running into another out. Ouch.

  50. tubbabubba22 on April 11th, 2010 1:12 pm

I feel like the hitting is slowly coming back up though. It will keep getting better.

  51. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:13 pm

I think a trade for Elvis Andrus should be in order.

  52. tubbabubba22 on April 11th, 2010 1:19 pm

hahaha Adam is really not helping Ian. That’s two catchers interference when the count was 1-2 and 0-2.

  53. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:19 pm

Is this the first time in history a particular batter has reached base twice on a catcher interference?

  54. Flowin on April 11th, 2010 1:19 pm

Rob Johnson is looking pretty good right now..

  55. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 1:20 pm

Wow, fairly good inning. At least Snelling doesn’t seem to be doing the meltdown thing so far this season.

  56. ndrfx on April 11th, 2010 1:22 pm

Who did the mask scoop against the A’s? What’s up with our catchers!!

  57. shmup-o on April 11th, 2010 1:22 pm

Can someone tell me how Moore is interfering?

  58. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:23 pm

I don’t think it’s Moore. It looks more like Murphy was reaching really far back for those pitches. And Guti gets another hit. Man he’s on fire.

  59. Liam on April 11th, 2010 1:23 pm

Who did the mask scoop against the A’s? What’s up with our catchers!!

    That was Moore.

Can someone tell me how Moore is interfering?

The bat is hitting his glove.

  60. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:24 pm

Who did the mask scoop against the A’s? What’s up with our catchers!!

    That was also Moore, ha.

  61. jld on April 11th, 2010 1:24 pm

He’s reaching out to catch the pitch as the batter swings, and the bat clips Moore’s glove. First time it was pretty obvious, second time, I couldn’t see it in super slow mo.

  62. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:25 pm

Come on Junior, make this game at least sort of worth watching.

  63. shmup-o on April 11th, 2010 1:27 pm

Makes you wonder if Murphy saw something while reviewing tape that showed a tendency of Moore to reach.

  64. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 1:27 pm

    Comment #2:

Lopez is going to have a big game today.

    Er, not.

  65. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:28 pm

Lopez is saving his big at-bat for the ninth.

  66. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:30 pm

I feel like Lopez is this parasite that infects our entire lineup’s offense. Even though basically everyone is struggling with the exception of Guti, his offensive incompetence stands out the most.

  67. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:31 pm

We should have traded Lopez for Liriano when we had the chance and picked up Hudson.

  68. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:32 pm

    [Sims]

  69. flashbeak on April 11th, 2010 1:33 pm

Lopez is saving his big at-bat for the ninth

You mean when the game is 12-1 and totally out of reach? Yeah, that makes sense.

  70. tubbabubba22 on April 11th, 2010 1:37 pm

Yeah Lopez keeps ending rallies… It’s awful. On a positive note, I seriously can not believe how good Guti’s all around game is. I mean, he’s making insane catches, he makes the normal catches look easy, he gets in great position to make a throw when he needs too, he’s stealing bases, and hitting over .400! He is truly incredible

  71. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:39 pm

Yeah Guti’s going to be a good trade chip come summer. Just kidding…

  72. Flowin on April 11th, 2010 1:42 pm

    I <3 Guti

  73. tubbabubba22 on April 11th, 2010 1:42 pm

Yeah Guti’s going to be a good trade chip come summer. Just kidding…

    You don’t joke about that…. :)

  74. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 1:46 pm

Lol I think I’d rather get rid of Ichiro than Guti. He’s going to be a Mariners great for many years to come.

  75. littlesongs on April 11th, 2010 1:48 pm

    [nope]

  76. littlesongs on April 11th, 2010 2:05 pm

    Fair enough.

I’m glad to see that Cliff Lee is coming along. We could really use him right now.

  77. nvn8vbryce on April 11th, 2010 2:06 pm

    Well, this one’s outta reach…
(At least the bleeding’s over for this inning)

  78. Marinersmanjk on April 11th, 2010 2:19 pm

I’d say we were saving it for the 9th again, but Feliz is the closer now so it looks like that idea’s shot…

  79. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 2:26 pm

What happened to the beard, Kahuna? (What was the final, designated nickname?)

  80. pinball1973 on April 11th, 2010 2:26 pm

It’s still really early, but the M’s give off the flavor of not being more than a not-bad team.

I’ll be happy to attempt to retract that statement in a month or so…

  81. sniper61 on April 11th, 2010 2:30 pm

After one cycle of pitchers it seems that the win average will stay at 20%

  82. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 2:39 pm

    *gasp* Ichiro dived!

I…I don’t know what to think. Byrnes better not be rubbing off on him.

  83. wabbles on April 11th, 2010 2:44 pm

…If I judge it just right, and land OK, and roll properly, I THINK I can jump off the bandwagon without injuring myself. Is April over yet?

  84. jr on April 11th, 2010 2:47 pm

I’m not giving up all hope this early in this season but I do think it’s not too early to start making a wish list. I think the biggest thing I’d like to see is acquiring a decent catcher. I mean, if Jack can swing picking up even just a mediocre guy (I’d settle for John Buck at this point) by the deadline, I’ll be happy. I think the offense will pick up steam once guys get comfortable and the pitching has to get better (for the love of god). But the catching has been inexcusable, too many mistakes in such a short season so far.

  85. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 2:55 pm

Ugh. Didn’t last season’s third base coach lose his job over some questionable sends?

  86. beadyeyes123 on April 11th, 2010 2:57 pm

Brumley’s made a few bad calls so far. This last one was inexcusable.

  87. scott19 on April 11th, 2010 2:57 pm

Gosh, even Niehaus just said that when you’re down six runs there’s no excuse for getting thrown out at the plate.

If it’s only April and Uncle Dave’s sounding deflated already, that is not a good sign.

  88. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 2:59 pm

Still obsessing over League’s hair. Has he got a fauxhawk under that hat? What’s with the squib of hair hanging out of his cap?

  89. scott19 on April 11th, 2010 3:00 pm

Who did the mask scoop against the A’s? What’s up with our catchers!!

Almost makes you wish Kurt Suzuki would’ve been available during this past off-season…sigh.

  90. scott19 on April 11th, 2010 3:01 pm

What’s with the squib of hair hanging out of his cap?

    A “mullet-hawk” perhaps?

  91. littlesongs on April 11th, 2010 3:06 pm

I take some solace in the fact that it did not take all season to weed out many of the weakest links last year. I look forward to seeing what Jack can do with this team. At the same time, it has been frustrating to endure two Aprils in a row that feel like an extended spring training.

  92. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2010 3:09 pm

    A “mullet-hawk” perhaps?

I’d forgotten League is one of the tatted players, so he’s probably got something pretty artistic, hair-wise, under there.

Shall we start a countdown clock until Junior’s bobblehead night, assuming he’ll go on the DL after that, freeing up a spot for someone who can still hit?

  93. luckyscrubs on April 11th, 2010 4:20 pm

I went to the games on Saturday and Sunday and here are some random thoughts:

    1. The lineup had a good approach at the plate both days. The hits are coming, but at the wrong times. I think this lineup will be fine once this stretch of bad luck runs out.

    2. Lopez and Adam Moore looked terrible offensively. I blame a lack of experience for Moore, but Lopez just looks lost. He seemed to be guessing on every pitch, and based on his results he is guessing wrong every time.

    3. The Rangers offense went nuts today. Every ball was hit hard and on a line, like they knew exactly what was coming. However, League looked good though as he settled down.

    4. Snell confuses me. He went right after the scary Ranger hitters (and lost nearly every time), but nibbled to the weaker hitters at the end of their lineup. His fastball was sitting at 89 most of the time, according to the stadium radar gun. If that’s accurate, I wonder if he is hurt? It’s only his second outing, but if it is consistency we are hoping for from him, we will probably be disappointed.

    5. DTFT is absolutely stunning. He gets such good reads and takes such good routes that even Ranger fans were impressed. We are so luck to have him.

    6. On Saturday, the first time Washington came to argue a close play at first base, the Rangers fans in my section took this as a chance to ridicule him. The line that stood out the most was “Get ‘em Ron… with your 8-ball!” Stay classy Ranger fans!

  94. luckyscrubs on April 11th, 2010 4:23 pm

I forgot to mention, both Kotchman (Sunday) and DTFT (Saturday) had no business being sent home on singles to left field. DTFT was out by a mile, and Kotchman was out by about 3 miles. When is the last time we had a decent 3rd base coach?

  95. Chris_From_Bothell on April 11th, 2010 6:25 pm

Adam Moore has no business being in a major-league game right now.

I’d jump up and down asking for a catcher to come in and replace Moore, but I don’t know who I’d bump off the 40-man roster to do it.

  96. scott19 on April 11th, 2010 7:08 pm

I’d jump up and down asking for a catcher to come in and replace Moore, but I don’t know who I’d bump off the 40-man roster to do it.

I wonder if Z can talk Dan Wilson out of retirement?

  97. bongo on April 11th, 2010 10:34 pm

During times like these, it’s calming to know that we have a professional front office that is prepared to take action to improve the team. Adam Moore is likely to be back in Tacoma no later than early May, with Bard the most likely replacement. When Hannahan comes off the DL, I suspect that Tui will go down, although it would be more logical to give Bradley more time at DH and DFA Sweeney. Picking which starter to jetson once Lee comes off the DL may not be easy, given the performances so far. Right now my guess might be for Vargas to move to the pen and for Colome to be sent down.
