Game 9, A’s at Mariners

Dave · April 13, 2010 at 5:47 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Fister vs Anderson, 7:05 pm.

Round two of the mismatch of doom, as the A’s ace faces the M’s seventh starter. I wouldn’t bet the farm on the M’s tonight.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Gutierrez, CF
Lopez, 3B
Mascot, DH
Bradley, LF
Kotchman, 1B
Johnson, C
Wilson, SS

So we have 2 homer calls in the last 2 years.

Do we have the market cornered on that?

  2. IHaveALittleProject on April 13th, 2010 9:26 pm

Everyone hates Johnson because he’s a bad catcher and a bad hitter, and starts about 2/3 of games.

I’m sure he’s a great guy. I just don’t want him having that much of an impact on the Mariners.

  3. griffin on April 13th, 2010 9:26 pm

Now, I’d be really happy with a 1…2…3 ninth inning. None of the ol’ walk-the-first-guy drama, DA.

    🙁
    We still got this though!

    (Sorry guys. My fault.)

  5. fiftyone on April 13th, 2010 9:28 pm

    Splendid DP, guys.

  6. MrZDevotee on April 13th, 2010 9:28 pm

Thanks for picking me up with the DP, Griffin!

Jack looks like hell at the plate, but sure sends nice feeds to Chone…

  8. jjenson on April 13th, 2010 9:29 pm

It still seems like pitchers have good games when he is in. Maybe that is not backed up by numbers or maybe it is but he sure seems to call a great game most of the time.

  9. 95Ms on April 13th, 2010 9:29 pm

Your apology worked MrZ. It could still be 1,2,3.

[“It almost looks like a real baseball team,” he whispered to himself]

If you don’t understand why we don’t like Rob Johnson, this must be your first time visiting USS Mariner.

    Ever.

    Or not.

    My fault now. Sorry.

  14. fiftyone on April 13th, 2010 9:30 pm

    DA-
Kouz was unable to hit a 3-run HR there. Didn’t really need to walk him.

  15. IHaveALittleProject on April 13th, 2010 9:30 pm

I’d be really curious to see some analysis on how many first signs from the catcher pitchers actually throw…something to try to find out how much a catcher truly “calls” a game.

  16. Liam on April 13th, 2010 9:30 pm

Everyone knew he couldn’t hit but if Felix wants him as his catcher be happy with him cause that means Felix is here.

Felix was good buddies with Silva and Cedeno last year, should we have kept them too?

    YAY!

Good Game fella’s.. Way to restore faith.

  19. MrZDevotee on April 13th, 2010 9:31 pm

My blood pressure is at least 10 points lower than it’s been the past week. Feels kinda nice.

Nice game, guys. Welcome to Seattle, Milton.

    Go M’s.

  20. 95Ms on April 13th, 2010 9:31 pm

Good win against a good pitcher.

  21. luckyscrubs on April 13th, 2010 9:31 pm

What a game from Fister and Bradley! Whooooooooooohoooooo!!!!!!

  22. spankystout on April 13th, 2010 9:32 pm

Thank (every) god Sweeney chose to be a serial hugger. The body count would be staggering.

  23. Carson on April 13th, 2010 9:32 pm

My kingdom for Milton to get pied in the face by Sweeney right here.

  24. DMZ on April 13th, 2010 9:33 pm

Yes! Sabermetrics, the Mariners’ front office, Dave, and everything that is good and true all validated in one game! At last the long stats-v-scouts argument that never really existed is settled forever!

  25. IwearMsHats on April 13th, 2010 9:34 pm

Was anyone really nervous about MB’s post-game interview? I was!

  26. Carson on April 13th, 2010 9:34 pm

IB4 Derek gets called a condescending elitist.

  27. IHaveALittleProject on April 13th, 2010 9:35 pm

This game was obviously won due to Griffey and Sweeney making Milton feel comfortable. Stats be damned!

  28. Ragin_canajun on April 13th, 2010 9:35 pm

I’ve just burned all of my Minaya / Dayton Moore paraphernelia. Good to see my trust here hasn’t been misplaced!

  29. 95Ms on April 13th, 2010 9:35 pm

Why nervous about the MB interview?

  30. Liam on April 13th, 2010 9:36 pm

Not at all. He’s very well spoken as noted by the Mariner reporters. (Also has done some before during Spring training)

Plus Dave gets to keep his house.

My kingdom for Milton to get pied in the face by Sweeney right here.

C’mon, Carson, you’ve been here long enough to know that we don’t allow people to root for Mariners players to get killed, here.

    (yes, I’m kidding)

  32. Mrelli on April 13th, 2010 9:36 pm

I have to watch on MLB.tv so it cuts out after the game. Did Milton Get Hugged or the pie??

  33. Liam on April 13th, 2010 9:37 pm

Did Milton Get Hugged or the pie??

    Nothing out of the ordinary.

  34. MrZDevotee on April 13th, 2010 9:38 pm

Cheer up guys, we just passed the A’s for last in the West (they lost to the Yanks).

  35. 95Ms on April 13th, 2010 9:39 pm

I know, I’m surprised there haven’t been any pies this year (at least that I know of). I mean I know there hasn’t been that many opportunities, but we have (or had last year) such a high win to pie ratio you know.

  36. Mrelli on April 13th, 2010 9:53 pm

I just figured Milton would have got the pie. He’s the new guy and he had the big game winning HR. Thought they would want to make him feel welcome.

    “Here, you do it.”

“No way, dude. You do it.”

“Yeah right. I have a family to think about.”

  38. Liam on April 13th, 2010 11:02 pm

    Here you go Mrelli,

After the game, Mike Sweeney did his serious speech about team – then watched the Mariners dump beer all over Bradley’s head.

I almost forgot what it was like to get a big win like this. As for the homer call, while most people heard Bone’s call on the tv broadcast, Mr Niehaus on the radio called it without actually saying it, i believe his exact words were, “if theres any pitch milton can handle its this one at 2-0, look for fastball in the zone.” I was yelling in my car, great moment in this young season
