Game 11, Tigers at Mariners

Dave · April 16, 2010 at 6:00 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Bonderman vs Hernandez, 7:10 pm.

In better news, Happy Felix Day.

Griffey ahead of Bradley – blech. At some point, Wak’s going to have to decide that the “moving Bradley down to take pressure off of him” thing worked and put him back in the clean-up spot where he belongs.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Gutierrez, CF
Lopez, 3B
Griffey, DH
Bradley, LF
Kotchman, 1B
Johnson, C
Wilson, SS

    Georgmi: Nope.

  2. Paul B on April 16th, 2010 9:07 pm

If that throw didn’t hit Kotchman on the foot, I think he would be on second and there would have been two errors on that play.

  3. JMHawkins on April 16th, 2010 9:07 pm

Wait, are we sure they aren’t showing the M’s score in binary?

  4. Paul B on April 16th, 2010 9:08 pm

And I thought OUR defense was sloppy

    You did?

  5. naviomelo on April 16th, 2010 9:08 pm

We scored more runs in 3 innings than in the last 4 games combined.

The Beast that is the Mariner’s offense is awakening.

    Be afraid, AL West.

    Be very afraid.

  7. georgmi on April 16th, 2010 9:09 pm

Even if it is binary, 3-2 should still be enough to win on Felix Day.

  8. reval5 on April 16th, 2010 9:10 pm

Why is Jack Wilson swinging at anything right now?

  9. nvn8vbryce on April 16th, 2010 9:11 pm

Today, the Mariners have scored as many runs as the Angels and Athletics combined did today. One more run and we can add the Rangers into the equation.

And, can anyone explain why Jack “Rally” Wilson is on this team? Anyone?

  10. Paul B on April 16th, 2010 9:13 pm

Yes, of course. It’s the same reason he is in MLB. It’s his glove.

  11. reval5 on April 16th, 2010 9:13 pm

    You mean besides stellar defense?

Yes, his name doesn’t rhyme with Snooniesky Betanquart.

You’re kidding right? Do you change channels when we’re not up to bat? Gold Glove, baby.

  14. nvn8vbryce on April 16th, 2010 9:14 pm

Thanks, Paul. I didn’t think it was for his batting. At least he’s better with the glove than Yuni ever had a chance of being.

    nvn8vbryce,

This is why Jack Wilson is on the team.

    2007 UZR: -0.1
    2008 UZR: 9.7
    2009 UZR: 14.0

Here is why Yuniesky Betancourt is not.

    2007 UZR: -1.1
    2008 UZR: -12.6
    2009 UZR: -20.5

His 2009 WAR was -2.2, the worst in all of baseball.

  16. nvn8vbryce on April 16th, 2010 9:19 pm

I understand all that, but I’m just a little frustrated with some of these free swingers on the club.

  17. Lauren, token chick on April 16th, 2010 9:20 pm

Aw, Yuni. 🙁 Worst in all of baseball.

  18. fiftyone on April 16th, 2010 9:21 pm

On the bright side, Yuni led the league in WBR. So there’s that.

Will not mention give away by name. Why do they only give for first 20,000 or what ever number? Fans that pay to go to game but miss out on give away would be upset. Why create that a distasteful situation?

Everytime they show it, I keep thinking that it doesn’t even look anything like him. All those people are going to go home with a bobblehead, and then…

Hey, Bob,I noticed that Bobblehead on your shelf.

Yup, got it by going early to a ballgame.

Who is it supposed to be?

You know, I can’t recall. Doesn’t look like any player I ever saw.

  20. MarinerMan24 on April 16th, 2010 9:22 pm

I want to see a contest between Byrnes and Damon to see who can throw ball farther

  21. Liam on April 16th, 2010 9:25 pm

    Attendance is really 39,999?

  22. Paul B on April 16th, 2010 9:27 pm

I understand all that, but I’m just a little frustrated with some of these free swingers on the club.

Check out this post over on LL.

    It says

So far, Mariner hitters have averaged 4.01 pitches per plate appearance, second-highest in the AL.

Wilson is the only one on the team who isn’t seeing many pitches.

  23. nvn8vbryce on April 16th, 2010 9:28 pm

    I guess I was over-reacting a little bit… this much offense was surprising me I guess 😉

  24. MarinerMan24 on April 16th, 2010 9:34 pm

Guti has the same stance as Pujols

  25. Breadbaker on April 16th, 2010 9:35 pm

It’s nice to see how locked in Franklin is right now.

  26. Liam on April 16th, 2010 9:38 pm

Why do they only give for first 20,000 or what ever number? Fans that pay to go to game but miss out on give away would be upset. Why create that a distasteful situation?

There’s probably an optimal number of giveaways that gives the biggest boost in attendance at the smallest cost. They also have to consider how many fans they think it will bring in, lest they end up with thousands of extra bobbleheads. If you look at the promotions schedule, you can see all the companies that are involved. So if they only want to pay for 20,000 bobbleheads, that’s all there will be.

  27. Breadbaker on April 16th, 2010 9:39 pm

It also encourages people showing up early, which encourages concessions consumption.

  28. NBarnes on April 16th, 2010 9:40 pm

Woah. I just checked in. The Ms have drawn six walks? Who are these people? Have the Cylons replaced our offense with identical copies, indistinguishable except by their advanced strike zone analysis skills?

  29. Willmore2000 on April 16th, 2010 9:54 pm

11 runs with just 1 extra base hit, that has got to be the first time this has happened in the live ball era, right?

  30. gloo on April 16th, 2010 9:57 pm

Will this be a trend going forward, with Felix relying on his breaking balls at home as opposed to feeding hitters with fastballs when away?

  31. G-Man on April 16th, 2010 10:04 pm

I know somebody who was waiting in line to get in at 4:30 to be sure to get his bobblehead.

OTOH, I have a few from past years that I can’t get $10 for on craigslist.

  32. Willmore2000 on April 16th, 2010 10:06 pm

Actually, happens more often than I would have thought. In fact, the 1995 Mariners won 15-8, with only a home-run as an extra base hit.

  33. Liam on April 16th, 2010 10:13 pm

I remember sleeping outside on the concrete in order to get the Mariner Moose Beanie Baby. (Looking online, it was a 14 and under giveaway) Several other people did as well, but they didn’t even run out. The things I had to do for beanies.
