Game 19, Mariners at White Sox

Vargas vs Danks, 11:05 AM.

Vargas gets the bad draw of the guys trying to retain their rotation spot, as a lefty flyball guy in a HR friendly park facing a line-up that is almost entirely right-handed. This may not be pretty. On the other hand, if he can pitch well in this context, he’s earned a rotation spot, so maybe he’ll take it as a challenge.

I swear half their lineup is made up of guys trying to yank Jose Lopezeque HRs to LF. The only good news is regression for guys like League, Lowe, and Aardsma should come in the positive direction eventually. However, if you know they are trying for that short porch HR throw to the outside corner.

We would be a great National League team.

  3. jordan on April 25th, 2010 1:53 pm

I am still stumped as to why Sweeney is on the freakin’ team… He is almost completely useless, yet we still use an important roster spot and at bats on him.

  4. littlelinny6 on April 25th, 2010 1:53 pm

Why no PH for Sweeney? Oh, that’s right, Griffey sucks even worse. I’m praying for some DL time for both those guys (maybe ripping a muscle hugging??)

  5. Gregory on April 25th, 2010 1:54 pm

Looks like Kotchman will be up with two outs after two ugly at-bats.

  6. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 1:55 pm

Why the hell is Sweeney hitting here??? I mean, at least Griffey can hit. Sort of.

    Milton Bradley REALLY can’t swing??

  7. WilliamWallace on April 25th, 2010 1:56 pm

Ducksnort? This is pathetic, we need some real hitters

  8. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 1:56 pm

    Its up to Kotch

  9. naloomis on April 25th, 2010 1:57 pm

    I’m sick of this team.

  10. jared_kopp on April 25th, 2010 1:57 pm

Love the hustle Casey! (Man that looked painful…)

  11. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 1:57 pm

    Nooooooo. Eric Brynes??? Really.

What about Felix? Can he hit?

  12. jordan on April 25th, 2010 1:57 pm

    Yeah! for decent hitters…

    oh, Byrnes is up.

  13. Marinersmanjk on April 25th, 2010 1:58 pm

That scared the crap out of me. Kotchman looks like he’s running in quicksand.

  14. ZVAZDA on April 25th, 2010 1:58 pm

I actually like him running there… and I don’t think I’m using ROT.

  15. Liam on April 25th, 2010 1:58 pm

Casey Kotchman looks like he is in pain when he turns it up a notch.

  16. supernova72 on April 25th, 2010 1:58 pm

    Could Byrnes do it??

  17. jordan on April 25th, 2010 1:59 pm

3-0 let him swing.. griff is up next

  18. giuseppe on April 25th, 2010 1:59 pm

    Whew!

    Terrible Speed vs. Terrible Arm

    Terrible Speed wins!

  19. wetzelcoatl on April 25th, 2010 1:59 pm

We just need three consecutive walks to tie it up and get to an actual major league hitter.

  20. ZVAZDA on April 25th, 2010 1:59 pm

Why would Jr. pinch hit? He doesn’t have a hit against Danks. He’s 0-2 against him.

    Jeeeeez.

  21. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 1:59 pm

    Yeah.

2010 Seattle Mariners offense. Lets hope we get walked.

  22. Marinersmanjk on April 25th, 2010 2:00 pm

    WHERE IS MILTON?!!

  23. Glen on April 25th, 2010 2:00 pm

Well, as Salk likes to say, Griffey has a flair for the dramatic. Let’s see how it works!

  24. Logger on April 25th, 2010 2:00 pm

Byrnes had absolutely no interest in swinging the bat there. Not that that is a bad thing.

  25. ZVAZDA on April 25th, 2010 2:01 pm

    Nevermind…

They cleared it up on air.

He’s batting 1.000 in pinch hit situations this year.

    PHEW.

  26. Liam on April 25th, 2010 2:01 pm

    ZVAZDA,

Player vs. pitcher stats are small sample sizes.

  27. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 2:01 pm

Wow. That was NOT a strike.

  28. Flowin on April 25th, 2010 2:02 pm

Come on Junior. We NEED this game. NEED it.

  29. Jeff Nye on April 25th, 2010 2:02 pm

    GRIFFEY WOOOOOOO~

  30. jared_kopp on April 25th, 2010 2:02 pm

    Well, that was certainly dramatic…

  31. ZVAZDA on April 25th, 2010 2:02 pm

    Liam…
I was joking. Sorry. Making fun of them for saying it on air like it meant something.

  32. scottg02 on April 25th, 2010 2:03 pm

3 one run losses to the freakin white sox in the eighth and ninth innings. I’m sick.

  33. Diehard on April 25th, 2010 2:03 pm

Well all the progress they made on the homestand has been wasted.

  34. jordan on April 25th, 2010 2:03 pm

GMZ, I love you. But please, fix this team. It’s not even a hard fix.

  35. giuseppe on April 25th, 2010 2:03 pm

    Wiff!

Terrible Bat Speed vs. Great Fastball Velocity

    Terrible Bat Speed loses.

  36. Diehard on April 25th, 2010 2:04 pm

5 guys in this lineup hitting below .200. Not going to cut it, please make some changes GMZ!

  37. Section329 on April 25th, 2010 2:06 pm

On a better note, Cliff Lee in Tacoma-3 scoreless innings:)

  38. Marinersmanjk on April 25th, 2010 2:07 pm

    Brad Adam’s gettin pissed lol

  39. IHaveALittleProject on April 25th, 2010 2:07 pm

    I’ll say it.

Thanks for the memories, Junior. That said, please retire, or its time to be waived.

  40. DrunkenSailor75 on April 25th, 2010 2:08 pm

    This team sucks.

  41. Carson on April 25th, 2010 2:09 pm

I really don’t quite get Wak’s PH strategies.

  42. Arron on April 25th, 2010 2:12 pm

Patience to frustration and now to anger…

We just got swept by a shit team…

    If Z doesn’t fix this soon, it’s over…

Seriously, if you’re not angry over this AAA offense, I don’t know what will piss you off…

  43. Diehard on April 25th, 2010 2:13 pm

Wak has no pitch hitting strategies because he has no friggin pinch hitting options! Because of Bradley and Wilson’s injuries, it was either let Moore strike out, put out Griffey who is a capable pinch hitter, or put out everyone’s favorite catcher Rob Johnson. Hard to be strategic when this roster doesn’t allow any flexibility.

  44. flashbeak on April 25th, 2010 2:18 pm

It’s gotten to a point where I can safely say that I absolutely, positively hate Don Wakamatsu. He makes John McLaren look like the love child of Bobby Cox and Tony LaRussa.

  45. MBK on April 25th, 2010 2:19 pm

    This offense is just embarrassing.

  46. spankystout on April 25th, 2010 2:20 pm

    Bah humbug!

  47. racecar on April 25th, 2010 2:23 pm

…..Johnson is a far better catcher than Moore,,you can take it to the bank….!!!!

  48. Arron on April 25th, 2010 2:30 pm

I blame whoever has the final say on the roster. If it’s Wak, Z, or the upper brass keeping Byrnes, Sweeney, etc. on the team, it’s their fault.

The worst part is that we would have a 5 game lead if this roster wasn’t put together so poorly…

  49. davepaisley on April 25th, 2010 2:52 pm

Wak has no pitch hitting strategies because he has no friggin pinch hitting options!

And who, exactly, is the biggest advocate of the Doublehug Twins? Oh, and the seven man bullpen? I’d call this a self-inflicted wound.

Btw, is Bradley’s injury so bad he had to sit all three days, or is this a “we won’t play him in Chicago” thing?

Oh, and it looks like this afternoon Cliff Lee is getting a taste of what it will be like when he comes up – no run support.
