I think we could all take that advice. Doing almost anything is more fun then watching the Mariners as of late. The game feels out of reach once we down by 2 runs!

  2. flashbeak on May 8th, 2010 5:24 pm

Saunders is not in the lineup.

Therefore, I have no interest whatsoever in watching this game.

  3. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 5:29 pm

Sounds good, Dave. I haven’t been able to see any of the last four (Are the Mariners now being managed by Gomez Addams from his basement?) train wreaks, so send your plain wife over and we can watch today’s together.

  4. flashbeak on May 8th, 2010 5:30 pm

Also, Johnson is behind the dish tonight, not Moore.

  5. ima-zeliever on May 8th, 2010 5:31 pm

How many Major League bats do we have in the line up tonight? 3? 4?

  6. Broadcast James on May 8th, 2010 5:42 pm

So who gets to second base first? Dave or the Mariners?? :)

  7. pensive on May 8th, 2010 6:06 pm

Dave. Your Mother’s Day posting please.

  8. pensive on May 8th, 2010 6:08 pm

Where is Joser? Must be ?? if not an early post.

  9. Marinersmanjk on May 8th, 2010 6:09 pm

So who gets to second base first? Dave or the Mariners??

Well the M’s can get to second but just can’t get to home, so that’d be a better question lol.

I also can’t figure out why in the world Kotchman is hitting third against a lefty. Why? Guti can hit 3rd and have Lopez 4th. My god why would Wak put a lefty in the 3 hole to face a lefty. It just doesn’t make any sense.

  10. KPS on May 8th, 2010 6:11 pm

    Nice job, Bartman.

  11. Marinersmanjk on May 8th, 2010 6:12 pm

    Fister is already rollin.

  12. Glen on May 8th, 2010 6:15 pm

Now to find something good to watch for the 5 minute bottom of the innings.

  13. msb on May 8th, 2010 6:17 pm

I just finished my movie watching, so I guess it is the Ms for me.

  14. Glen on May 8th, 2010 6:18 pm

    !@#)%@#$%(#$^ Umps!

  15. Idaho M on May 8th, 2010 6:23 pm

So Ichiro is safe at first but called out. Our manager sits on his hands in the dugout. I am starting to wonder why this is a team of milk toasts.

  16. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 6:23 pm

/sigh…the drinking is going to start early tonight

  17. bigpoppa01 on May 8th, 2010 6:26 pm

I fully expect Joe Saunders to have a Cy Young like performance tonight…Ugh!

  18. scott19 on May 8th, 2010 6:34 pm

So who gets to second base first? Dave or the Mariners??

The way this week’s going, if the Mariners make it as far as second base tonight, it’ll feel like Paradise By The Dashboard Light.

  19. nate_the_great on May 8th, 2010 6:35 pm

I played the MLB Today option on MLB 2K10 and Fister took a perfect game into the 8th, finished with a 3 hit shutout and the M’s won 4-0. Mascot hit a 2 run shot (I laughed as it happened)and I even got Byrnes to lay down a sac-bunt (also laughed during that). Foreshadowing???????????

  20. KPS on May 8th, 2010 6:35 pm

And Lopez breaks up the no-hitter!

  21. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 6:36 pm

Stop at second, Weeble, so you don’t fall down!

Now Sweeney will do a sharp ground ball to third that won’t advance the runner, and next two will pop out. And I’ll get my first rum and coke of the evening.

  22. Scottdids on May 8th, 2010 6:36 pm

Nice double. Now 6-4-3 can only make one out.

  23. DMZ on May 8th, 2010 6:37 pm

Dave describes that as “hit sharply”… really? Compared to what, Griffey? We gotta raise the bar here.

  24. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 6:38 pm

Anybody know how long it’s been since the M’s had the lead at any point in a game?

  25. scott19 on May 8th, 2010 6:40 pm

Somehow I just knew that ball wasn’t going to carry over the fence…

  26. matthew on May 8th, 2010 6:40 pm

A combination of Old Rasputin stout and Clase Azul tequila tonight will make my night just fine.

Except, I’ve already seen one terrible call at first and Sweeney is in the line up for some reason.

I think Niehaus should be the one to lose it and go off on the team. He’s the only one that can get away with it.

  27. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 6:41 pm

I noticed how Lopez was flipped with our deadweight DH, Scottdids, probably just to avoid the easy DP. But I have confidence in our blackholes of the lineup!

  28. EricL on May 8th, 2010 6:41 pm

Anybody know how long it’s been since the M’s had the lead at any point in a game?

    Guti’s home run on Wednesday.

  29. scott19 on May 8th, 2010 6:41 pm

Anybody know how long it’s been since the M’s had the lead at any point in a game?

Oh, about Wednesday night or so — for an ever-so-brief time after Guti hit that HR.

  30. matthew on May 8th, 2010 6:44 pm

    Guti’s home run on Wednesday.

Put us up 2-0. And I’m sure all of you remember that we promptly allowed them to tie the game in the next half inning…

  31. matthew on May 8th, 2010 6:46 pm

That throw might be the most exciting play we’ve seen in a week. Ichiro!

  32. bigpoppa01 on May 8th, 2010 6:48 pm

Seems to me anyone could have had Abreu for a song a few years ago…thank God for Guti!

  33. matthew on May 8th, 2010 6:49 pm

I feel good about this upcoming half inning.

  34. puppyfoot on May 8th, 2010 6:50 pm

Fun Fact: Major league leader in passed balls not named Bob Johnson or Adam Moore: Posada with 2. Moore has 3 and Johnson has 5. In fact, the m’s have 8 of 40 passed balls in the majors this year. Sure, some teams have the number one and two guys in homers, rbis, or ba, but how many have had the number one AND two in passed balls? And I think we are unchallenged in catcher interference.

  35. ericthebarbaric on May 8th, 2010 6:53 pm

Is Adam Moore deceased? Why is a .133 hitting AAA catcher known for what he can do dominating the platoon? This is the most glaring example of overlooking a possible lineup change that I see.

  36. matthew on May 8th, 2010 6:57 pm

Two games in a row without Dave Sims. There’s something to cheer about.

  37. nvn8vbryce on May 8th, 2010 6:59 pm

So far I think we lead the league in alcoholism as well. I think that by next week, Schick Shadel could pay cash for the “Seattle Sports Fans” wing.

  38. Carson on May 8th, 2010 6:59 pm

    You prefer Rizzs over Sims?

To each their own I suppose.

  39. ericthebarbaric on May 8th, 2010 7:01 pm

Game, set, and match. The Angels have surpassed our offenses ability. 1-0

  40. Marinersmanjk on May 8th, 2010 7:01 pm

Damn 1-0, we can call it a night now boys.

  41. EricL on May 8th, 2010 7:02 pm

To each their own I suppose.

I’ll second that. When the team is struggling hard, there is nothing worse than Polyanna Rizzs. I cannot stomach the constant positive spin.

  42. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:02 pm

    Double play right here…

  43. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:06 pm

I don’t care for Polyanna, but I can’t bear to hear Sims’ fingernails on the chalkboard attempt at enunciating “Gutierrez” 500 times a game. I can tune out Rizzs. I can’t tune out the other.

    Great double play guys :)

  44. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:06 pm

Casey is due. HR right here.

  45. Scottdids on May 8th, 2010 7:07 pm

Matthew with the call on the DP.

  46. Marinersmanjk on May 8th, 2010 7:07 pm

To each their own I suppose.

Personally, I’d much rather listen to Rizz or Neihaus over Sims or Blowers. I can’t stand Sims and his “Gutierrez”.

  47. Marinersmanjk on May 8th, 2010 7:08 pm

Wow Matthew finally someone else who shares my hatred of the Gutierrez enunciation.

  48. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:08 pm

I can’t stand Sims and his “Gutierrez”.

Thank you. It hurts my brain when he does that.

  49. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:10 pm

Lopez for the HR. Come on.

  50. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:11 pm

    Here comes the Meatball.

  51. ericthebarbaric on May 8th, 2010 7:11 pm

A one out single + Mariners rally!

  52. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:11 pm

    LOL so close :D

  53. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:12 pm

So close won’t win you a pennant :(

  54. tubbabubba22 on May 8th, 2010 7:14 pm

I like the positive attitude of this game’s forum. I feel like we have hit rock bottom and there is nothing negative left to say. So, people are being more positive and i LOVE IT! GO MARINERS!

  55. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:15 pm

Can we go for 3 shutouts in a row?

  56. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:22 pm

    Fister!

  57. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:23 pm

I’m trying to remain positive. That’s probably my blood alcohol level talking though.

  58. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:25 pm

Watching Hunter try and time Fister’s fastballs is scary :(

  59. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:26 pm

Okay Dave, you can write the game summary.

Wait, Dave is getting it on.

So, someone else here will have to write one.

  60. Mrelli on May 8th, 2010 7:27 pm

    Ichiro bailed on that one.

  61. Carson on May 8th, 2010 7:28 pm

    I’ll do it.

    Boo, 11-Does It Matter?

Screw you for breaking our hearts.

  62. Koala on May 8th, 2010 7:29 pm

    Boo, 11-19.

  63. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:30 pm

Did Ichiro forget there were 2 outs? Or was he daydreaming in right field? It looked like he pulled up on that hit.

  64. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:32 pm

I want to know how Schick Shadel knew in advance to do so many spots during Ms games this year. Does part of the recovery process include not watching games, looking at box scores?

  65. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:36 pm

Langerhans channeling Byrnes on that play.

  66. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:38 pm

    Rob Johnson triple right here.

  67. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:38 pm

    Meatball.

  68. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:40 pm

Wilson was safe. Again, Wak has his thumb up his ass.

  69. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:40 pm

There’s at least one Meatball per at bat if the Mariner can take some pitches.

    Ichiro HR?

  70. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:41 pm

    Eff yeah!

I was only off by one batter on the triple ;) haha

  71. mariners2009 on May 8th, 2010 7:42 pm

    M’s scored????? WTF?

  72. lalo on May 8th, 2010 7:42 pm

Ichiro is one of the best players in history of baseball

  73. Breadbaker on May 8th, 2010 7:42 pm

I’m wondering if the scoreboard operator in left field remembers how to put the yellow numbers on the bottom row.

  74. dingla on May 8th, 2010 7:42 pm

“somewhere in this desert is a bubbling oasis and Ichiro has found it”

    -Niehaus

    :)

  75. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:43 pm

    Haha Breadbaker

  76. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:44 pm

Join the Marines and you won’t have to hear about the Mariners for 6-8 weeks. (Bootcamp.)

  77. Islets of Ryan Langerhans on May 8th, 2010 7:45 pm

I wonder if it is OK to start referring to Wakamatsu as “Bakamatsu.”

  78. pgreyy on May 8th, 2010 7:45 pm

    Is Sims on vacation?

Is Adam Moore ever going to play again?

Was that actually cheering I heard coming from the stands of Safeco Field?

(I only know the answer to one of these questions.)

  79. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:45 pm

Join the Marines and you won’t have to hear about the Mariners for 6-8 weeks. (Bootcamp.)

Unfortunately for me, it was the army and I missed the 2001 season.

  80. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:46 pm

    Is Sims on vacation?

Or he’s been demoted. One can only hope.

  81. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:47 pm

    Wakamatsu, MLB’s first passivist manager.

  82. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:47 pm

Unfortunately for me, it was the army and I missed the 2001 season.

1987 and Navy for me. We both may be to old to re-enlist.

  83. cjones on May 8th, 2010 7:48 pm

    Sims is on the radio

  84. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:49 pm

I’m tempted to have a Fister jersey made.

Just the thought of people misinterpreting the jersey would be worth it…

  85. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:49 pm

    Sims is on the radio

    Please leave him there.

  86. Glen on May 8th, 2010 7:50 pm

I forget, is 29 the cut-off age? If so, I better get my papers in fast!

  87. Islets of Ryan Langerhans on May 8th, 2010 7:50 pm

    Please leave him there.

Why? His forehead has magical powers.

  88. Wells on May 8th, 2010 7:53 pm

Is it silly to propose hitting Ichiro 3rd?

  89. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:53 pm

Why? His forehead has magical powers.

Yes, but what he is doing to “Gutierrez” on the radio right now makes me wish I was deaf. I feel bad for those anywhere listening to him :(

  90. dingla on May 8th, 2010 7:54 pm

leave him there? poor Niehaus, then.

  91. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:56 pm

leave him there? poor Niehaus, then.

Sims can do something else when Niehaus goes over to the radio side. Something that has nothing to do with the Mariners.

  92. cjones on May 8th, 2010 7:57 pm

Sims was calling Kevin Frandsen “Frandesen” – is that right? Not that I really care how he mangles the names of these LAA pukes…

  93. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:57 pm

Meatball coming up. Can Sweeney hit a 2-run HR?

  94. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:57 pm

    Here it comes.

  95. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:58 pm

    YEAH MEATBALL!!!

  96. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:58 pm

Not that I really care how he mangles the names of these LAA pukes…

    I laughed :D

  97. cjones on May 8th, 2010 7:58 pm

    Will wonders never cease

  98. Scottdids on May 8th, 2010 7:59 pm

I love Sims. And I love tie games!!

  99. lalo on May 8th, 2010 7:59 pm

    Langerhans win the match

  100. matthew on May 8th, 2010 7:59 pm

Shut up Rizzs. Just wait for the Meatball when the count gets to two balls.

  101. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 8:00 pm

Thank god for teams as bad as the Mariners.

  102. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:00 pm

    Here comes the Meatball!

  103. Breadbaker on May 8th, 2010 8:01 pm

    So Sweeney will be “running”.

  104. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:01 pm

    Damn.

  105. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 8:01 pm

Langerhans is actually pretty good. Why wasn’t he called up earlier?? At least he knows how to work a count.

  106. cjones on May 8th, 2010 8:01 pm

You know, a real major league team would pinch-run for Sweeney

  107. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:02 pm

    You’re killing me here Breadbaker.

  108. Adruidan on May 8th, 2010 8:02 pm

Just out of curiosity, has anyone though about Figgins hitting leadoff and Ichiro hitting second? Ichiro is probably our best RBI guy with men in scoring position on this team–thus it makes more sense for a struggling Figgins to assume is previous role with the Angels and bat leadoff.

  109. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:03 pm

You know, a real major league team would pinch-run for Sweeney

Correct. Send in Junior. You’ve seen that slide from 1995.

  110. dingla on May 8th, 2010 8:04 pm

yeah why not. Figgins hit lead off.

  111. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:05 pm

Danielle Lawrie is something else. What an amazing athlete. She has either 4 or 5 no-hitters this year…

  112. Don Ward on May 8th, 2010 8:05 pm

Yep. You’re the first person who has EVER called for Figgins to hit in front of Ichiro…

  113. cjones on May 8th, 2010 8:06 pm

    Correct. Send in Junior

    Saunders?

  114. cjones on May 8th, 2010 8:07 pm

    Correct. Send in Junior
    Saunders?
    Well, never mind.

  115. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:08 pm

Here comes the passed ball to equal out that nice catch.

  116. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:09 pm

League’s hairdo has to rival Bosworth’s for worst Seattle pro athlete haircut ever.

  117. Breadbaker on May 8th, 2010 8:11 pm

I’d like to point out that at 8:10 pm PDT on May 8, the Mariners made a play on a ball where three fielders converged. I’m not sure that’s happened before this season.

  118. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:12 pm

    :D

  119. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:14 pm

    Here comes a big inning!

  120. Wells on May 8th, 2010 8:15 pm

    Rob “The Natural” Johnson!

  121. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:16 pm

lol The Natural. Dave is missing some good comedy tonight.

  122. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:17 pm

    Meatball…

  123. Adruidan on May 8th, 2010 8:18 pm

The point wasn’t to say I am the only or first one to think of Figgins hitting lead-off, it was to promote discussion of “why not?” So far I have yet to see much discussion on it at all.

  124. pgreyy on May 8th, 2010 8:21 pm

Ichiro gets a lot of his hits by beating out infield grounders. You’ll lose that if you’ve got Figgins on first, as there’ll be a force out available at two bases.

The idea is: Ichiro gets a hit, Figgins moves him to third with no one out…rather than…Figgins gets a hit but then Ichiro ends up on first after Figgins is thrown out a second.

Even if Johnson scores here, I don’t want to hear Wak talking in the post-game about productive outs.

  125. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:24 pm

    MEATBALL!

  126. matthew on May 8th, 2010 8:24 pm

    Stupid pitcher has no control.

  127. jr on May 8th, 2010 8:27 pm

That HBP made me wonder…if Kotchman had to go on the DL who would be the back-up 1B right now? Not Sweeney, right? Can Saunders play 1B?

  128. Glen on May 8th, 2010 8:27 pm

This is the most unemotional baseball team I have ever seen.

  129. dingla on May 8th, 2010 8:29 pm

no because only about a quarter of Ichiro’s hits per year come from beating out infield grounders. Its usually around 50.

  130. pgreyy on May 8th, 2010 8:30 pm

This is the most unemotional baseball team I have ever seen.

    I thought that’s what we’d brought Milton in for…

  131. The Nickster on May 8th, 2010 8:30 pm

Do my eyes deceive me or do we have a tie ballgame in the 8th inning? This has been the best game the Ms have played in more than a week. I’m actually enjoying watching this!!

  132. pgreyy on May 8th, 2010 8:33 pm

no because only about a quarter of Ichiro’s hits per year come from beating out infield grounders.

I believe that I’m summing up what Wak’s explanation for the (Ichiro-Figgins) > (Figgins-Ichiro) was (and I think I read that explanation here, actually.)

  133. Glen on May 8th, 2010 8:39 pm

    Wak is a horrible manager.

  134. samregens on May 8th, 2010 8:39 pm

Are some people seriously advocating that Figgins bat leadoff instead of Ichiro?

Yeah, sure we want a guy hitting .192 getting more at bats than one of the most prolific hitters in MLB.

  135. samregens on May 8th, 2010 8:41 pm

This is the most unemotional baseball team I have ever seen.

Yeah, we get it already, you hate Wak.

  136. pdome01 on May 8th, 2010 8:45 pm

Wak is a lazy ass manager. Maybe sitting in the dug out and hoping and praying is enough when were a winning ball club but there have been three calls tonight that have been terrible and yet he sits and waits. Way to go Wak. Just sit on your ass till the next season starts.

  137. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 8:45 pm

    Forget Wak, I hate Johnson.

  138. scott19 on May 8th, 2010 8:46 pm

How did I just know RoJo the Magnificent was not going to be “da man” in that situation?

  139. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 8:49 pm

Now DA will give up the go-ahead run…

It’s like I’m having that repetitive nightmare.

  140. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 8:55 pm

Nicely done, now score a damn run in the bottom of the 9th…

  141. visbea on May 8th, 2010 8:59 pm

How bad (mentally) does this team need a walk-off hit?

  142. visbea on May 8th, 2010 9:03 pm

Guti: Do i have to do everything?

  143. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:04 pm

How bad (mentally) does this team need a walk-off hit?

At this point, I will take a walk-off wild pitch. Anything. Just get Ichiro 90 freakin feet.

  144. visbea on May 8th, 2010 9:05 pm

Are they even pitching to Guti? Lopez and Sweeney seem like much better victims.

  145. David on May 8th, 2010 9:05 pm

Or some other team could have a passed ball!

  146. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:07 pm

Or some other team could have a passed ball!

Not-fun fact: The Mariners lead the majors with 8 passed balls. The team with the second-most passed balls has 2.

  147. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:08 pm

Lose/lose situation. Either Lopez wins the game, thus validating his existence on this team, or he loses it and drives me crazyier.

  148. Carson on May 8th, 2010 9:08 pm

Oh great. Here comes the hugger.

  149. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:09 pm

Hey Wak! You have a couple lefties on the bench!

  150. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:09 pm

Repeat, rinse my above comment with Sweeney.

  151. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:09 pm

Please pinch-hit here, Wak. Come on! We need to win this game.

Please Wak. I love you, but do this for the fans. The fans that actually want the Mariners to win.

  152. Willmore2000 on May 8th, 2010 9:09 pm

    Walk-off hug?

Come one, that has to be in the rulebook somewhere.

  153. visbea on May 8th, 2010 9:10 pm

Even more worse case scenario – Sweeney wins the game and we can’t get rid of him for another month!

Praying for a passed ball or a wild pitch so we don’t have to give Sweeney credit.

  154. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:10 pm

Way to swing at ball 2 there…

  155. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:10 pm

Don’t worry Sweeney will strike out

  156. Jim_H on May 8th, 2010 9:11 pm

    Sweeney looks nervous…

  157. griffin on May 8th, 2010 9:13 pm

Good ol’ Sweeney, sure knows how to kill a buzz…

  158. Carson on May 8th, 2010 9:13 pm

    FML

  159. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:13 pm

    I hate Sweeney.

  160. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 9:13 pm

    /facepalm

  161. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:13 pm

    @#$^$%^$$&%%$&* Sweeney

  162. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:14 pm

That did not just happen. 643 just hit into a 4-3. Wow.

  163. David on May 8th, 2010 9:14 pm

What would the argument be for letting Sweeney bat in that situation?

  164. Diehard on May 8th, 2010 9:15 pm

This is torture. Wonder if Wak is gonna throw White out there now?

  165. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:15 pm

What would the argument be for letting Sweeney bat in that situation?

    Because Wak believes in him.

  166. Diehard on May 8th, 2010 9:16 pm

If freaking Sweeney wasn’t swinging at balls, he would’ve easily drawn a walk instead of fouling off bad pitches.

  167. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:16 pm

Am I the only one here who has lost confidence in DA?

  168. argh on May 8th, 2010 9:16 pm

I really should have made Mother’s Day Eve Dinner last longer. Didn’t need to come home to see this rerun.

  169. nvn8vbryce on May 8th, 2010 9:18 pm

I think that Pat O’Day or William Shatner can hit better than Sweeney at this point. I think that Ichiro needs to give one of his patented All-Star Game talks to this team if we have a prayer of winning another game this year.

  170. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:18 pm

Now DA can lose it. I called it for the 9th, but let’s wear the players out by going longer with the same result.

  171. Tweedy428 on May 8th, 2010 9:19 pm

Aardsma starts off with his traditional let the first batter get on base. In this case make it a double.

  172. zzyzx on May 8th, 2010 9:21 pm

We spent the day up at North Cascades. I got home, saw we weren’t losing, and turned on the game in time to see Sweeney ground out.

Well the park was cool. We got snowed on despite it being 50 degrees.

  173. Kuya Dan on May 8th, 2010 9:21 pm

Agreed Diehard! He grounded out on the only pitch in like a 9-pitch at-bat that was a strike.

  174. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 9:22 pm

I really think the FO needs to explain why Sweeney is allowed to play – or whatever you call it when you work a count as hard as possible to prevent a walk, then ground out weakly.

He (and Kenny G.) are not in a slump. They are sub .200 batters with no real power who cannot play the field at replacement level. It is now a disservice to fans to pretend otherwise, most especially when we are in an apparently endless slump.

  175. griffin on May 8th, 2010 9:23 pm

    Game over baby.

  176. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:23 pm

    I hate DA.

  177. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:23 pm

And that, my friends, is ballgame.

  178. Tweedy428 on May 8th, 2010 9:24 pm

Aardsma comes through again, for the other damn team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  179. Diehard on May 8th, 2010 9:25 pm

UGH THEY GIVE AWAY YET ANOTHER WIN!!!!

  180. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 9:25 pm

Did the umpire really give Matsui two extra strikes to work with? As if we didn’t have enough problems on our own….

  181. David on May 8th, 2010 9:25 pm

But there’s still the bottom of the inning. Let me see…Langerhans, Wilson, and Johnson. Never mind.

  182. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:25 pm

I’m going to fucking puke. This sucks. I hate this team. I hate DA. I hate 643. I hate this whole fucking team. And I hate wasting my life watching a team that disappoints me night in and night out. This sucks.

Why do we all care about baseball anyway?? It doesn’t affect our lives. Why do we care? We shouldn’t care about what a bunch of losers do with a bat and a ball. Why does my whole fucking night have to be ruined because a bunch of crappy hitters couldn’t come through, and a particularly crappy reliever threw his meatball one too many times???

    This sucks.

  183. mgbetsch on May 8th, 2010 9:26 pm

And DA was left in why?

  184. Don Ward on May 8th, 2010 9:26 pm

Wonder what’s worse. The Snoqualmie Casino commercials. Or Sweeney…

  185. argh on May 8th, 2010 9:27 pm

I’m getting over baseball real quick and the Mariners are helping me take the cure.

  186. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 9:28 pm

I’ll hold out another week to see if MS, and maybe Kenny G. as well, are released. It’s more than time for Jack to pull a winning (hitting) rabbit out of his hat to make up for the last two weeks.

  187. nodiggity on May 8th, 2010 9:28 pm

3rd straight game that Aardsma has come in during a game started by Fister. 3rd straight time Aardsma has FAILED.

  188. Flowin on May 8th, 2010 9:30 pm

    “This isn’t over yet.”

    Now there’s a funny one.

  189. Tweedy428 on May 8th, 2010 9:31 pm

Hey at least the M’s scored. right……..??????? No this just sucks!!!!!!!!

  190. Paul L on May 8th, 2010 9:32 pm

Stop blaming DA. Sweeney swung at ball four three times; Aardsma shouldn’t have had to take the mound.

  191. luckyscrubs on May 8th, 2010 9:32 pm

The umpire really didn’t do his job in the Matsui AB.

  192. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 9:36 pm

So our last hope lies with RoJo….

  193. juneau_fan on May 8th, 2010 9:36 pm

There’s a certain poetic justice for Johnson to end this game.

  194. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:36 pm

Way to use the bench Wak! You dumb shit.

  195. Swungonandbelted on May 8th, 2010 9:39 pm

I hate this team right now, the M’s hat goes back in the closet until they decide they want to put a product on the field that doesn’t stink.

  196. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 9:39 pm

Bench? Maybe Johnson should use that instead of a bat. It has no other use.

  197. pinball1973 on May 8th, 2010 9:40 pm

Well, they were tied in the ninth and should have won, if they… [shoots self].

  198. blackc5 on May 8th, 2010 9:41 pm

Lets hope Z can bring in quite a haul for Lee…

  199. luckyscrubs on May 8th, 2010 9:42 pm

Really crappy situational hitting tonight, and some really bad calls by the home plate umpire that lead to 3 of their runs. Another bad night in Marinerland.

  200. nvn8vbryce on May 8th, 2010 9:43 pm

AAnd another game lost. AA needs to ride the bullpen pine for a while, and I agree with Dave that Mike Sweeney is an IDIOT.

  201. zzyzx on May 8th, 2010 9:47 pm

I hadn’t checked the standings in a while. 10.5 games back? Well this was a possibility when you go high risk, high reward.

  202. samregens on May 8th, 2010 9:50 pm

Way to use the bench Wak! You dumb shit.

    Who’s the dumb shit?
What bench? Bring in Griffey to fail against Fuentes? Adam Moore? An injured Jack Wilson?

  203. Glen on May 8th, 2010 9:58 pm

It was more or less a confirmation of the prior inning when Wak had Sweeney hitting against Rodney when the bench had 2 lefties on the bench.

  204. jephdood on May 8th, 2010 10:17 pm

I REALLY wish I wasn’t going to the game tomorrow. I can’t think of a bigger waste of 3 hours.

  205. Islets of Ryan Langerhans on May 8th, 2010 11:53 pm

    So don’t go.

  206. scott19 on May 9th, 2010 12:00 am

Actually, I almost wish Kenny G. the sax player would take the Hugmeister’s spot on the roster…I think he could do a better job DH’ing.

  207. John D. on May 9th, 2010 12:05 am

Are some people seriously advocating that Figgins bat leadoff instead of Ichiro?

Yeah, sure we want a guy hitting .192 getting more at bats than one of the most prolific hitters in MLB.

BTW, FRANKIE CROSETTI (NYY SS and lead-off hitter) batted .190 in 1940, the only season in an 8-year span that the NYY did not go, to the WS.

  208. scott19 on May 9th, 2010 12:10 am

And, while we’re on the topic of light-hitting leadoff hitters, Gary Pettis had a lifetime .236 average for a bunch of teams back in the ’80′s & ’90′s…

    Just saying.

  209. LongDistance on May 9th, 2010 12:43 am

Advice to anyone who thinks it’s still early, or that this is a slump: you’re in a good position to pick up some good deals on just about any package you want… barely used 16-game plans… flex plans… even a season package.

  210. jephdood on May 9th, 2010 2:17 am

    So don’t go.

It’s not for me. It’s mother’s day. But thanks for the excellent advice.

  211. Islets of Ryan Langerhans on May 9th, 2010 11:07 am

It’s not for me. It’s mother’s day. But thanks for the excellent advice.

Why punish your mother by taking her to a Mariners game? Unless she is a fan of the other baseball team.
