Game 33, Rainiers at Orioles

Dave · May 12, 2010 at 1:26 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Rowland-Smith vs Bergesen, 4:05 pm.

The Mariners have the night off today – the Tacoma Rainiers have been recalled from Triple-A to take on the Baltimore Orioles. Or, at least, that’s what it looks like according to the line-up.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Kotchman, 1B
Lopez, DH
Tuiasosopo, 3B
Langerhans, CF
Josh Wilson, SS
Moore, C
Saunders, LF

Unfortunately, the team did not also recall Mike Curto to announce the game tonight, despite the fact that it’s Tacoma Night in Baltimore.

I did not think it possible for any team to field a worse line up than the M’s, but if you look at the A’s/Texas game right now the starting designated hitter for the A’s is rookie Josh Donaldson, hitting .067

Donaldson at DH makes the tandem of Griffey/Sweeney/Lopez look like an all star trio by comparison.

When did the O’s sign Cy Young?

I feel I must quantify my increasing rage for umpires.

Oh dear, wHER is not the tool you’re looking for. You need ANGUR.
(Since you asked: Adjusted No-Good Umpire Rage.)

    Way to go Tui

    Hey Mariners.

That play? We call it a “sacrifice fly.” It’s not like a “hit” or anything. It’s just another way to get a “baserunner” to “score” from third base with less than two outs.

    Thanks for your attention!

  6. Koala on May 12th, 2010 6:13 pm

    Boo, 13-20.

This team featured 4 starters that have played in Tacoma this year, and 4 players (Moore, Lopez, RR-S, and Figgins) who need to go back to Tacoma to remember how to not suck.

Bummer about Hyphen so far this year…

When did the O’s sign Cy Young?

Now we know why Bedard became expendable with the O’s — since Bergesen is the Second Coming of Jim Palmer, after all!

  9. Breadbaker on May 12th, 2010 6:25 pm

First appropriate use of Sean White.

  10. scott19 on May 12th, 2010 6:25 pm

Well, Wak has now officially thrown up the White flag on this game…

  11. argh on May 12th, 2010 6:32 pm

Man, they look helpless without Junior in the line up. I kill me sometimes.

  12. Swungonandbelted on May 12th, 2010 6:37 pm

Nah, they’re saving him up; he’s going to pinch hit for somebody in the 8th to further the “Jr. doesn’t sleep during games” campaign

  13. Koala on May 12th, 2010 6:38 pm

Chone Figgins gets his first RBI of the season

Nah, they’re saving him up; he’s going to pinch hit for somebody in the 8th to further the “Jr. doesn’t sleep during games” campaign

Only problem is, this is a dangerous game to do that. The way the M’s are playing could put an insomniac on a caffine IV to sleep.

I’m sure Bergesen has pitched many fine games against AAA hitters.

  16. Breadbaker on May 12th, 2010 6:54 pm

The one game I attended at Camden was also a rain delay. By the time it hit extra innings, we were sitting right behind the visitors dugout. No one minded our self-help to improve our seats. I liked that.

  17. naviomelo on May 12th, 2010 6:56 pm

Why are we burning through the bullpen right now?

  18. Swungonandbelted on May 12th, 2010 6:57 pm

Colome was pulled for an injury or something

  19. Paul B on May 12th, 2010 6:59 pm

I was at Camden years ago. A hot day, a sellout. That’s how long ago it was. They used to sell out games.

  20. Breadbaker on May 12th, 2010 7:02 pm

We had tickets for a game back in that era, too. It was cancelled because a train with chemicals derailed in the nearby train tunnel. So we gave the “rain check” (“hazardous material spill” check?) to my in laws.

  21. Breadbaker on May 12th, 2010 7:06 pm

I thought it was classy of Junior not to bring his triple short latte out to the batter’s box with him.

  22. Swungonandbelted on May 12th, 2010 7:12 pm

Jr. has no hope of catching up with that fastball…

  23. Koala on May 12th, 2010 7:13 pm

    They’ve awoken Junior!

  24. juneau_fan on May 12th, 2010 7:13 pm

    DP or strike out?

  25. Koala on May 12th, 2010 7:15 pm

    Junior needed that badly

  26. argh on May 12th, 2010 7:16 pm

Another day, another at bat, another miracle opportunity missed.

  27. Mahoney5500 on May 12th, 2010 7:16 pm

    negativity is so cool

  28. Koala on May 12th, 2010 7:16 pm

Hey at least it’s his first RBI

  29. Swungonandbelted on May 12th, 2010 7:18 pm

    sigh

  30. argh on May 12th, 2010 7:20 pm

This could be the high point he needs to consider a graceful retirement.

  31. scott19 on May 12th, 2010 7:22 pm

They used to sell out games.

Well, there was a time…long, long ago…when Angelos actually invested in that team rather than just blow up the roster constantly.

  32. daveblev on May 12th, 2010 7:47 pm

Leave it to Jr to blow another game and crucial at-bat.

  33. Keo on May 12th, 2010 7:51 pm

The back of the baseball card lies.

  34. Swungonandbelted on May 12th, 2010 7:52 pm

Jr. didn’t blow the game, but the rbi sac fly hurt considering it was the second out of the inning

  35. Breadbaker on May 12th, 2010 7:57 pm

Oh, come on now. This was a team effort, led by Ryan Rowland-Smith. He may be on the next flight to Tacoma if I had my way.

  36. daveblev on May 12th, 2010 8:05 pm

He blew a chance to make it 5-4. Instead, Jr only made it 5-2. Saunders would have tied it up with a homer if Jr didn’t make an out.

Oh damn, I guess I’m not up to date on all of the new stats coming out of the umpire research.

  38. Marinersdude83 on May 12th, 2010 9:01 pm

Ugh. The M’s are really scratching around the cellar now at 13 an 20.
