Game 46, Tigers at Mariners

Bonderman vs Vargas, 12:40 pm.

The M’s look to win their first series since playing Kansas City a month ago. Also interesting – Jason Vargas’ xFIP is now slightly higher than it was a year ago, 4.71 to 4.68. So much for all those early strikeouts he was racking up. That 3.08 ERA won’t last much longer, but he’s still a perfect fit for Safeco, so like Washburn, he can be expected to outperform his peripherals to an extent.

Yeah, its a small sample size but guess what? We’re the 2010 Mariners! We can’t afford to say “Well he’s been hitting really really well but its a small sample size so lets exchange him out for our more consistent and valuable hitter in AAA.” We are hitting like .230 this year. So yeah, if someone is “Lucky” or “on a random good streak” we should stick with him. Guess what else? WE’RE WINNING! Not a ton, but more than with Kotchman or Griffey hitting in place of him. So unless you feel that Carp or Moore or Hannahan will do better than what Sweeney will do, stop complaining! If you do complain, give a SOLUTION, don’t just ask for a change. It’s irresponsible to do so.

Sweeney has been contributing significantly to keeping this season somewhat alive.

    ..after he killed it.

I really like the Hot Streak Hero moniker. Ever since I first saw it, I have Foreigner running through my head. Seems to fit somehow.

(Josh) Wilson noted that Sweeney “looks like the guy who was in Kansas City pushing for batting titles every year.”

If the M’s can’t get back into contention there will be teams line up for his very live bat. In the offseason he made it clear he wanted to play in Cali or here but people twist it into he couldn’t buy a MLB job.

Actually, he really just couldn’t get a major league job.

Being that guys like Mike Jacobs and Frank Catalanotto made the opening day roster with the Mets are just 2 of many players who disprove your statement.

The fact is you did not talk to the GM’s of the 29 other clubs so of course there is no way you can assert they had no interest in Sweeney if he wanted to expand his job search to other teams besides the M’s, Angels and Pads.

    2010 CHONE projections:

    Mike Jacobs 1B 0.2 WAR
    Frank Catalanotto 1B/OF 0.1 WAR
    Mike Sweeney DH -0.4 WAR

If you were a GM prior to the season, who do you pick?
