Game 53, Twins at Mariners

Pavano vs Hernandez, 7:10 pm.

Happy Felix Day.

Carl Pavano was a punchline for a long time, due to his big contract and bad performance in New York. However, since getting healthy, he’s become a pretty darn good pitcher, a right-handed strike-thrower who gets enough ground balls to be a solid middle of the rotation guy. M’s aren’t going to get many walks against him tonight – they’ll have to hit their runs in.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Gutierrez, CF
Lopez, 3B
Bradley, DH
Kotchman, 1B
Josh Wilson, SS
Johnson, C
Saunders, LF

There is nothing about Kotchman that says “relaxed” at the plate.

Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite about Josh Wilson. He looks so completely relaxed up there. Of course, I wonder how often he’s been able to play everyday like this.

  2. Diehard on June 3rd, 2010 8:52 pm

Ok so what do you do in this situation… Keep Josh wilson as the current starter.. or replace him with Jack when/if he returns…

Keep Josh Wilson in there. The guy is hitting .308!! We need all the competent hitters we can get. Maybe Jack Wilson can be traded to the Royals and the M’s can ride Josh Wilson until they get a real shortstop.

gracias Ro Jo, la siguiente inning comenzara con Saunders e Ichiro, gente que sabe batear

  4. GOB Bluth on June 3rd, 2010 8:53 pm

    Rob is my hero.

  5. msfanmike on June 3rd, 2010 8:54 pm

Johnson was merely maintaining his average of making one out per at bat – alive.

  6. justcruisn on June 3rd, 2010 8:55 pm

Note to Josh Bard and Adam Moore…please hurry back so Rob Johnson can be DFA’d. He sucks.

  7. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 8:56 pm

Johnson was merely maintaining his average of making one out per at bat – alive.

Maybe two outs per at bat

  8. MarinerFanMike03 on June 3rd, 2010 8:56 pm

I think the King has found his groove.

  9. GoldenGutz on June 3rd, 2010 8:59 pm

Maybe Josh can play 1st. I would be down for that.

  10. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:00 pm

    Who for the eight inning??

    Chad Cordero??

  11. Diehard on June 3rd, 2010 9:01 pm

Dang the M’s are starting to do what they were supposed to do! Great pitching by Felix tonight! Pavano needs to shave off the porn stache…

  12. Grayfox3d on June 3rd, 2010 9:01 pm

When Bard comes back, what catcher gets sent down? im guessing alfonso, but id rather have johnson go down…

  13. Breadbaker on June 3rd, 2010 9:02 pm

How often is it that you see a guy make a great play in the field and then . . . oh, never mind.

  14. GoldenGutz on June 3rd, 2010 9:04 pm

Yea, I don’t see Johnson getting sent down. Offense is overrated anyways.

  15. msfanmike on June 3rd, 2010 9:04 pm

Maybe even 3 outs per AB if given enough time to refine his “skills.”

In case you were taking a different slant on things lalo (and I don’t think you were), but I have 1% of doubt in my mind:

“Average” of 1 out per at bat … because his previous AB was a hit. The DP averaged things out – in order to meet the metric requirement of me attempting to accurately quantify his level of skill.

  16. MarinerFanMike03 on June 3rd, 2010 9:06 pm

but id rather have johnson go down…

    Thats what she said.

  17. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:11 pm

  19. GoldenGutz on June 3rd, 2010 9:14 pm

He just gets stronger as the game goes on.

    4 K’s in one inning?

  20. vern on June 3rd, 2010 9:15 pm

    Rob, drop the freaking tailgate.

  21. EthanN on June 3rd, 2010 9:15 pm

Alright Felix, 4 strikeouts in one inning. Lets do this!

  22. Grayfox3d on June 3rd, 2010 9:15 pm

of course! leave it to Rob to extend an inning…

  23. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:15 pm

Wild pitch or another passed ball??

  24. GOB Bluth on June 3rd, 2010 9:16 pm

Was that a legit wild pitch or a Rob Johnson “wild pitch”?

  25. Diehard on June 3rd, 2010 9:17 pm

4 K’S IN AN INNING!! Wow he’s in a serious groove!

  26. GoldenGutz on June 3rd, 2010 9:17 pm

  29. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:17 pm

4 Strikeouts in 1 inning, awesome!

  30. Westside guy on June 3rd, 2010 9:17 pm

I prefer Alfonzo to Johnson, but it sure seems like he’s studied batting philosophy with Jose Lopez.

  31. Grayfox3d on June 3rd, 2010 9:22 pm

It’s nice to see Red out there.

  32. rogelio14 on June 3rd, 2010 9:24 pm

Felix Hernandez is just a beast!!!!!!

  33. IwearMsHats on June 3rd, 2010 9:26 pm

At least it wasn’t a groundball this time.

  34. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:26 pm

    Kotch is terrible!

    Carp, Everidge?

  35. Diehard on June 3rd, 2010 9:26 pm

Nice swing by Kotchman….Luke Scott anyone??

  36. Grayfox3d on June 3rd, 2010 9:27 pm

Maybe they are keeping Kotch around just long enough to try to get that errorless ining streak… who knows

  37. lalo on June 3rd, 2010 9:33 pm

    Another good job M´s!

  38. rick m on June 3rd, 2010 9:33 pm

    Josh Wilson – Twins killer!

  39. GOB Bluth on June 3rd, 2010 9:34 pm

Good game for the M’s. 7 Happy Felix days is way too long without a win. It’s about time.

  40. rogelio14 on June 3rd, 2010 9:34 pm

    W!!!!

  41. EthanN on June 3rd, 2010 9:35 pm

One catcher that can catch, one first baseman that can hit, and this team actually might have a slim chance of getting back into the thick of it.

  42. Fritz on June 3rd, 2010 9:35 pm

Way to kill the rally Lopez…

  43. willieseattle on June 3rd, 2010 9:37 pm

    hey guys-

In light of Griffey’s retirement I was thinking about the way he went out. He was clearly one of the best any of us has ever seen and its tough to see a player of his nature and talent leave on what didn’t seem like his terms.

Currently he is about 100,000 votes behind Matsui for second in the all-star balloting at DH. Wouldn’t it be the ultimate tribute and thank you from us as fans if we voted him and allowed him to go out truly on top. I’ve thrown a few votes in but its going to take a collective effort. Spread the word!

  44. firova2 on June 3rd, 2010 9:38 pm

Griffey is actually the one who started that business about home runs killing rallies. It was part of his winking false modesty act back in the day. May Lopez kill a few more.

  45. Diehard on June 3rd, 2010 9:39 pm

6 games back!!! Hope they can keep this up!!

  46. firova2 on June 3rd, 2010 9:40 pm

If Griffey’s swing is slow now, how will it be at the All-Star Game in July? Time to give it a rest. Given what he said about the effects of sitting on his skills, I’m not sure he would relish the honor and it would be a shame to leave a deserving player off the team.

  47. MarinerFanMike03 on June 3rd, 2010 9:40 pm

I love it when Jose Lopez talks. He’s so excited and happy.

  48. Westside guy on June 3rd, 2010 9:44 pm

I heard A-Rod say that same thing back when he was a Mariner, firova2. He seemed serious though.

willieseattle, much as I loved Junior in the 1990s and even in 2009 – there’s no way I’d vote for him as an All-Star now. Do you really think he’d want the charity, or even appreciate it? Heck, he apparently hasn’t spoken to Wak for a week since he got benched. He still didn’t think he was done, or deserved to be benched.
