On With Brock And Salk At 1:00 Today

Dave · July 22, 2010 at 10:56 am · Filed Under Mariners

My time slot is going to float for the next few weeks as Brock and Salk prepare to move to mornings, so today’s spot will be at 1:00. I figure Rob Johnson will come up as a topic of conversation, and I’ll have to figure out just how nice I want to be to the guy on his birthday…

Fortunately, it is not Lopez’s birthday.

Lopez and I actually share a birthday. He’s the last thing I’ll be thinking about on his birthday.

Really is there anything about Rob Johnson’s play that you could bring up as a positive? His defense has been brutal, his hitting worse, and personality doesn’t mean much on a team set to lose 95~.

I guess you could always say that he’s positively played himself out of a starting role next year…

Eh, be nice to Rob. Like Vidro and Sexson before him, it’s not his fault the team is asking him to be one of the 300 best ballplayers on the planet when he’s only top-1000 material.

Wak and Zduriencik on the other hand…

Al Martin too. Didn’t you guys attend USC together?

Wak and Zduriencik are probably something like 33th and 34th on the list of people to assign blame for this season on.

I can think of at least two GM’s who are higher on the list then Zduriencik.

    Uh, 33rd. 🙂

Perhaps we could all pitch in and get Rob Johnson a nice luggage set for his birthday and politely suggest he use it to pack his things?

Please call Brock lazy and question his work ethic. Also I would like to know how long he’s been dating Lopez.

    Dave,

How about putting together a comparison of the WAR that you expected from each player before the season started and the WAR that it looks like they’ll end up with at their current rate? It’d be interesting to see who is mostly responsible for this mess…

    Thanks!

I’m unable to listen at work. When the segment is finished, would someone be kind enough to summarize the abuse dished out by Dave?

  13. Liam on July 22nd, 2010 1:11 pm

The segment will be posted here when it is available.

Dave, you’ve got to stand your ground on CERA even when it happens to support your argument.

Am planning on writing up CERA for Salk’s blog next week. Yes, it’s a bad stat, but if Johnson’s intangibles were going to show up anywhere, that’s where they would be found. That the team isn’t pitching any better with him behind the plate is relevant information.

Yesterday is a classic example that Felix is so much better with Johnson behind the plate than any other catcher. I think if Johnson were catching Felix yesterday, Felix would have no hit the White Sox instead of giving up two hits. Heck, Felix didn’t even get a complete game yesterday.
