Game 104, Mariners at Twins

Dave · July 30, 2010 at 4:00 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Fister vs Baker, 5:10 pm.

After four days in a park that the team just isn’t suited for, the M’s head up to Minnesota and find a more friendly environment. Target Field is a tough place to hit the ball out of, so the M’s collection of soft-tossers should find this a little more like home.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Kotchman, 1B
Branyan, DH
Gutierrez, CF
Saunders, LF
Bard, C
Josh Wilson, 3B
Jack Wilson, SS

    I smell a Twins sweep…

I was about to suggest that maybe Lopez was getting traded, but i forgot about his injury. Any reason why Kotch is getting more time lately? I thought we should just let Smoak play and work through his problems, could we trying to add some value to the little value he has as a defensive replacement?

    Come on, Mariners!!!

If we try hard enough, we can catch the 1962 Mets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the Orioles have that one in their sights…

Whose genius idea was it to run on Mauer? Seriously. We’re better off letting Branyan swing away with a guy on first…

(I really like the straight to the plate camera angle, over the pitcher’s head, but for a new field, there’s something strangely cheap looking about Target field itself… Like maybe they actually bought it at Target?)

Fister might be back! The ball is down, and it’s got some life to it. Those are both good things to see from him again.

    LOL!

Actually, though, for as much initial financial posturing as went on surrounding the construction of Le Parc Target, the fans there are probably lucky they even wound up getting it built at all.

We would have a better shot with Phillips then Wilson and Wilson being up with the bases loaded.

That is exactly why you don’t sacrifice with Saunders vs a RHP who is struggling….WTF??????????

  10. scott19 on July 30th, 2010 5:46 pm

And here I thought you couldn’t hit home runs there…who knew?

Looks like Josh Wilson is lobbying for his own “bobble” head doll?

Y’know, thinking about it now, wouldn’t J-Lo’s injury be the perfect time to ask Figgins if he wants to move back to 3rd?…

“Wilson-to-Wilson-To-Smoak” is a mighty cool double play call (either side of 2nd base– when Smoak is playing, naturally)…

one run, Its a festivus miracle.

  14. scott19 on July 30th, 2010 6:50 pm

Any time the team can avoid getting shut out these days is almost cause for celebration.

  15. scott19 on July 30th, 2010 6:55 pm

Watch…they’ll probably get one more run and wind up losing 5-4…

Such is the nature of the miraculous “Believe Big” season of 2010.

Ohh, I believe big alright. If big = the turd pile of a game…

One of the national shows on 710 earlier this week was talking about the spate of no-nos and lowered scoring and was speculating it was the result of cracking down on PEDs.* I remain a bit skeptical, I think pitchers were juicing as much as hitters, but scoring is certainly down.

Most of the new stadiums seem to be pitcher’s parks. I’m sure that doesn’t account for all of it, but it is odd. Why aren’t teams building bandboxes any more?

    * – zero Mariner’s content, which is perhaps a good thing right now.

I knew we were bad, but this bad? OUCH!

wow, 17 posts for a game thread pre-game to last pitch… new record?

There’s still room to fall, the M’s *started* the game on Fangraphs with a 50% win probability

That’s exactly right. Steroids didn’t let anyone hit singles anyway.

    Oh dreary days.

Caller on the post-game says “we need to get some fiery guys who want to compete.”

I think that this game is slightly more interesting than the Mariners… Of course, it’s in Coors Field, though.
