Saunders is out because of that collision with the wall last night – hopefully he’s not too hurt.

  2. scott19 on August 6th, 2010 6:33 pm

I’ll just say that this one is a mismatch made in hell if ever there was one.

I dunno… sure it’s Zack Grienke, but he’s got that KC lineup behind him.

You know, pretty much what Texas was saying yesterday – “sure it’s Felix Hernandez, but he’s got that Seattle lineup behind him”.

  4. scott19 on August 6th, 2010 6:57 pm

Yeah, I forgot good ole Drayton DFA’d Jose Guillen yesterday…so the M’s chances of winning tonight have improved from absolute zero to merely infinitesimal.

  5. Jordan on August 6th, 2010 6:57 pm

I’m counting on Greinke for my fantasy team tonight. The M’s make it easy not to bench him. Now if only we could catch Baltimore, only 4.5 back!

  6. juneau_fan on August 6th, 2010 7:11 pm

Willie Bloomquist batting ninth…that’s working out well for him.

At this point Baltimore is better than the M´s, their lineup is better than the M´s lineup, I think the next week the problem will be Pittsburgh, this team is awful…

Branyan, you don’t get paid to bunt, even with a shift on and you leading off the innning.

  9. Swungonandbelted on August 6th, 2010 7:49 pm

    Langerhammered!

  10. Swungonandbelted on August 6th, 2010 7:49 pm

2 swings, 7 bags… who are these guys?

  11. ayoon on August 6th, 2010 7:51 pm

I kept thinking Wilson was going to get hurt running so hard! But a homerun and triple against Greinke, I’ll take it!

  12. juneau_fan on August 6th, 2010 7:53 pm

shouldn’t Ichiro have done their beloved suicide squeeze there?

It feels like that octopus from the the World Cup could do a better job of third base coaching.

  13. SODOMOJO360 on August 6th, 2010 7:55 pm

why didnt ichiro or figgy bunt Jack in

  14. groundzero55 on August 6th, 2010 7:58 pm

I’m sure glad Figgy waited until August to have the kind of at-bat we’ve been paying him for all season.

  15. samregens on August 6th, 2010 8:07 pm

Is it just me, or has Figgins been playing like the player we were supposed to get ever since Wak benched him?
That great D on the DP the other day and he looks pretty focused at the plate now also.
(Sorry, I just saw the post above now. It isn’t just me.)

I remember last year that Felix also started pitching like Cy Young after Wak unusually chewed him out.

Wak isn’t too noisy (theatrical) but when he does make a move it seems he does it with great good effect. I like.

  16. SODOMOJO360 on August 6th, 2010 8:18 pm

I think Lopez took 55 steps to get home

  17. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:20 pm

    Man, Lopez is SLOW! Unbelievable.

What’s with those tiny little steps anyway?

  18. SODOMOJO360 on August 6th, 2010 8:21 pm

You’re right Dave, this isn’t fair. French is beating Cy Young and most of my friends put big money on Greinke but I will never bet against my M’s.

  19. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:21 pm

Is it just me, or has Figgins been playing like the player we were supposed to get ever since Wak benched him?

Don’t expect Figgy to ever admit it, though. 🙂

  20. SODOMOJO360 on August 6th, 2010 8:22 pm

What’s with those tiny little steps anyway?

Maybe Ichiro can teach him some stretches to loosen those legs up.

  21. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:24 pm

Does the umpire have to brush off home plate after every Bloomquist at bat? You know, with all that grittiness and all…

  22. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:24 pm

Lopez did make a nice play, actually – even if he didn’t get the guy.

    Fair is fair…

  23. juneau_fan on August 6th, 2010 8:25 pm

What’s with those tiny little steps anyway?

It’s been driving me mad for years. I have stubby legs and probably run like that too, but I’m not a highly paid athlete.

I call him Weeble, because he runs like a Flintstone character (mixing my pop culture references there) feet going, going, going, but tipping precariously like he’s going to fall right over if pushed with a fingertip. Will the Weeble fall down? I yell at my TV as he’s ‘running’ the bases.

    Love it!

  25. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:37 pm

One thing about facing Greinke right now – even if we weren’t having some luck tonight, facing him doesn’t have quite the same “hopeless” feel I remember back when the old Mariners (who actually could hit!) faced the 1999-ish Pedro. I remember some of those games… it wouldn’t matter whether it was Bone at the plate, or Edgar, or whomever – you just knew they weren’t going to do anything.

Yeah, I know I’m sounding like an old man…

  26. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:42 pm

Lopez in on fire tonight – Dayton Moore needs to trade Greinke for him before someone else snatches him up!

  27. lalo on August 6th, 2010 8:44 pm

    And Langerhans for Butler too!!

They never beat Pedro until an interleague game against the Mets, what was it, it feels like about 2004 or 2005ish when it finally happened.

  29. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:47 pm

    And Langerhans for Butler too!!

Dayton, make it happen! Langerhans is hot, hot, HOT!!

    (I like Langerhans a lot – but still…)

  30. groundzero55 on August 6th, 2010 8:49 pm

When was the last time you saw a Mariner get intentionally walked =P

  31. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 8:50 pm

When was the last time you saw a Mariner get intentionally walked =P

Now you’re just making stuff up. I’ve watched the M’s all year – there’s no such thing as this supposed “intentional walk”.

  32. groundzero55 on August 6th, 2010 8:52 pm

….And when was the last time you saw the Mariners make the other team pay for it?

  33. lalo on August 6th, 2010 8:52 pm

    Figgy: Why in August???

  34. tubbabubba22 on August 6th, 2010 8:53 pm

yeah, have you noticed that NOW Figgy is starting to catch on fire? He has raised his average all the way to .252! Where was this hitting all year… UGH

  35. spankystout on August 6th, 2010 8:58 pm

Wow I just turned the game on and was shocked to see the M’s actually leading. Miracles …

  36. samregens on August 6th, 2010 8:59 pm

This is pretty sweet so far today.

Don’t expect Figgy to ever admit it, though. 🙂

Good point! But Figgy should realize that Wak is really a great player’s manager. He would have gotten some pretty harsh treatment from a short fuse, iron fist type manager a long time ago (but whether that would actually be to long term good effect or not is not clear). I prefer Wak’s steady hand.

  37. lalo on August 6th, 2010 9:02 pm

Langerhans at first base for the rest of the season…

  38. JerBear on August 6th, 2010 9:02 pm

Is it just me, or has Figgins been playing like the player we were supposed to get ever since Wak benched him?

Yeah, I’m sure he was intentionally sucking for 4 months, and just needed an attitude check…

  39. samregens on August 6th, 2010 9:09 pm

Yes, I think that’s Ichiro’s 10th or 11th intentional walk this year. Ichiro always leads or is near the lead in the AL in intentional walks every year, which is pretty amazing when you consider that he’s not a power guy. Respect.

And last year for example, this was despite having the remaining best hitters on the M’s batting behind him also, like Branyan and Guti.

  40. jordan on August 6th, 2010 9:15 pm

I am just hoping that Figgy stays hot, and it carries over to next year. I think next year is looking like a .500 ball club, then 2012 is going to be our year!

  41. mrnostalgia on August 6th, 2010 9:19 pm

Kotchman’s playing like a gold glover over there at 1st.

  42. Paul B on August 6th, 2010 9:22 pm

    Before the game:

“Hey, Ryan, I’ve got good news and bad news. Good news is that you get a rare start. Bad news is that Grienke is pitching.”

So all he does is go out and hit a homer and a double.

  43. msfanmike on August 6th, 2010 9:27 pm

Yeah, I’m sure he was intentionally sucking for 4 months, and just needed an attitude check…

Or maybe it was some well placed Wakamatsu inflicted “fire in his ass.” Some guys play better with a case of the red-ass. Maybe Figgins is one of them.

Then again, it may be neither.

In “reality” it was probably Matt Freaking Pittman calling him a jerk. Figgins is hitting about .360 since Super-Matt went to work.

Matt Freaking Pittman … Good God.

  44. Carson on August 6th, 2010 9:37 pm

Hm. I go to a game and the M’s win.

If you guys need me I’ll be in my bunker.

  45. Westside guy on August 6th, 2010 9:57 pm

You know, originally I thought Dave was being sarcastic with that “well, this is fair” comment – but I guess not.
