Game 125, Mariners at Red Sox

Fister vs Lackey, 4:05 pm.

M’s have a new line-up today, and this edition comes with less Lopez. Thank God. Tui starts at third, while Langerhans plays left – Saunders’ shoulder is acting up again, and while he’s available to pinch run, they won’t let him hit in this series. He’ll get an MRI when they get back to Seattle.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Branyan, DH
Gutierrez, CF
Kotchman, 1B
Moore, C
Langerhans, LF
Tuiasosopo, 3B
Woodward, SS

    Can I get a “Huzzah?”

  2. spankystout on August 23rd, 2010 2:29 pm

Yay no Lopez! Don’t F this up Tui.

  3. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 3:01 pm

Good … and quite ironic that he would get a day off in the 1 park that suits his “pull offiness” the best. That’s quite a statement the team is making. It’s not hard to read between those lines.

The bell is starting to toll for thee, Jose. Fire up the U-Haul.

  4. Chris_From_Bothell on August 23rd, 2010 3:06 pm

    Huzzah!

Get well soon, Condor – if I’m reading Drayer’s latest post correctly, LF is waiting for you as soon as you’re well and truly healthy.

Now if only we had someone to bump Kotchman from first… or do we just wait a few more days and see Smoak again when rosters expand?

Probably, The lineup will get a huge overhaul from Opening Day next season, Smoak will start at 1st, no Grif, No Kotchman, No Lopez, atleast.

Well… I’d suggest not reading too much into this single game. Tui has started at third before, yet it didn’t presage any long-term changes. Baby Steps may very well be back in there tomorrow.

I’d love to see the M’s play the role of spoiler and end the Sox’s chances at nabbing the wild card. Misery loves company.

  8. spankystout on August 23rd, 2010 4:08 pm

I guess its Fister pitching tonight not Pauley.

  9. MariLOLs on August 23rd, 2010 4:12 pm

My wife laugh every time she hears “Fister.” That concerns me. No LOLopez? Hallejulah.

  10. spankystout on August 23rd, 2010 4:15 pm

    It is an amusing name.

  11. poordispatcher on August 23rd, 2010 4:22 pm

I’m not getting any stats overlay on the MLB.TV…is everyone else having this problem? Or those of you on FSN?

  12. spankystout on August 23rd, 2010 4:28 pm

No problems on FSN/Comcast, except for Kotchman trying to leg out a double
    unsuccessfully.

  13. Westside guy on August 23rd, 2010 4:29 pm

Brown says Lopez and Paperboy are just getting a night off.

Thing is, Brown probably sees this as his chance to audition for the big time – just repeatedly throwing your young guys out there, even if it makes sense for the team, may be seen by him as not “managing enough”.

  14. AssumedName on August 23rd, 2010 4:30 pm

And here I thought that whole getting thrown out at home thing would have settled, in Kotchman’s mind, that he’s slow and shouldn’t run more than he has to.

  15. spankystout on August 23rd, 2010 4:32 pm

If Tui steps up tonight he could start pushing Lopez out….. Thats a big IF.

  16. Carson on August 23rd, 2010 5:35 pm

    Echo… echo… echo…

  17. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 5:38 pm

Baby Steps may very well be back in there tomorrow.

I fully expect that he will be, but the bell has begun to toll. His M’s playing days are numbered … whether that day be tomorrow, September 1 or October 4. It’s not like he hits a lot of shots to the warning track at Safeco and just needs the fences moved in a bit to help his stats (sidebar argument with eponymous coward) … he just isn’t very good.

    Nice, timely hit by Kotchman.

What is the all-time record for making “go on contact” outs at home plate?

  18. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 5:39 pm

    Hi Carson

  19. Carson on August 23rd, 2010 5:39 pm

It really feels like Wak is sending signs in to Brown from the top of the monster.

That damn contact play hasn’t worked all year. You have a bunch of weak hitting players.. please, stop.

  20. Breadbaker on August 23rd, 2010 5:46 pm

    Dear Mr. Zduriencik,

When you are interviewing managerial candidates next year, I’d like you to pick the guy who says something like this, “Aggressiveness on the basepaths is all well and good if you have the personnel, but the cost of having a guy thrown out trying for the extra base can be huge, so I wouldn’t make aggressiveness into a mantra. I want a third base coach whom no one learns the name of because his calls are never controversial.”

    Thanks.

Brandon Morrow: 6 IP 12k’s vs Yanks so far….

When you are interviewing managerial candidates next year, I’d like you to pick the guy who says something like this,

Good, bad or indifferent – isn’t it pretty much inevitable that Joey Cora will be on the short list of candidates?

  23. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 6:02 pm

Sean White doing what Sean White does best! Move the fences back!!

  24. SODOMOJO360 on August 23rd, 2010 6:03 pm

Don’t you want a RP that can get a strike out with guys on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out? Screw saving League for the 8th, White is not a good choice there.

  25. MariLOLs on August 23rd, 2010 6:04 pm

Lol, Sean White. He didn’t even bother getting a shallow fly or a K to make you think he just maybe would be able to get out of the inning with just one run. Iwonder what a Sean White pitch looks like to a batter. Do they have time to salivate before they crush it?

  26. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 6:05 pm

White is not a good choice there anywhere.

  27. MX on August 23rd, 2010 6:06 pm

They use Brandon League when down 9 runs. They use Sean White with two on and game is tied. #FAIL

I don’t understand. Every single regular fan knows Sean White SUUUUUUUUUUCKS! Why can’t a major league skipper figure it out?

  28. Westside guy on August 23rd, 2010 6:08 pm

In AAA White looked effective. Same reason Tui has Brown’s favor.

  29. Breadbaker on August 23rd, 2010 6:09 pm

“He pitched pretty good for me in Tacoma.”

  30. msfanmike on August 23rd, 2010 6:09 pm

    Well stated

Why can’t a major league skipper figure it out?

    Is this a rhetorical question?

The “3-man expendable band” will be appearing right after Rick Springfield at Tulalip Casino

No Golden Sombrero for the Muscle!!! Hahaha…

  34. Paul B on August 23rd, 2010 6:32 pm

Somehow, I don’t think Brown is the answer.

I’d love to be proven wrong.

  35. Westside guy on August 23rd, 2010 6:33 pm

Ha ha! The thumbs are faster than the fingers, Mr. Breadbaker!

  36. MX on August 23rd, 2010 6:34 pm

All of a sudden, Figgin is batting .252 and is second in the lineup.

    Depends on the question…

  38. MariLOLs on August 23rd, 2010 6:40 pm

Maybe that’s why the young guys aren’t getting playing time. 1-15, 7K’s combines for tui, Moore, woody, and langer. Ugly.

By what metric do Woodward (34) and Langerhans (30 something) qualify as “young guys?” Maybe in terms of life expectancy – from any known actuary tables – provided by your friends at Safeco Insurance … but not in baseball or any other major sport. Probably not even in bowling – would they be considered “young guys.” Actually ancient for Tennis. Mabye young for Jai Alai? Croquette? Golf – sure, let’s go with Golf.
