If you take the initial of each player’s last name in order of tonight’s lineup it spells “IFBLKGMTW”.

  2. Carson on August 27th, 2010 7:28 pm

I think Suzuki starts with an S.

  3. terry on August 27th, 2010 7:31 pm

    “SFBLKGMTW” wouldn’t make any sense.

  4. Carson on August 27th, 2010 7:40 pm

Awesome, Ichiro gets an error there because Moore can’t catch.

  5. Carson on August 27th, 2010 8:16 pm

The Rainiers game has been more exciting this far.

  6. Carson on August 27th, 2010 8:42 pm

Oh, come on terry. Now I really feel alone here.

Matt Tuiasosopo, he doesn’t hit for average or power, hes a butcher in the field and he couldn’t beat Rojo in a race, My question is why the hell is he even still in the organization? id rather watch Yuniesky Betancourt play thats just how awful he is.

Agree, his stats in Tacoma,AA,A and MLB are awful, why not give an opportunity to Triunfel or Mangini, Mangini is batting 308 with 16 HR, and is lefty, hopefully we see him in September, Triunfel maybe next summer.

  9. jt92 on August 27th, 2010 9:25 pm

lalo, I agree they should give mangini a look at least, hes got a slash line of 308/350/514. As for Triunfel he has no pop and has completly lost his speed, hes a slower version of yuni betancourt at best. The SS of the future is cleary Nick Franklin.

Bases loaded with nobody out, and can’t score. Classic.

  11. henryv on August 27th, 2010 10:00 pm

I hate when commentators talk about pitch velocity being important in base stealing.

The timing difference between a 94 MPH fastball and an 85 MPH off-speed is 0.035 seconds. That works out to about 1 inch on the basepath.

The location is exponentially more important, as far as the pitches go, ignoring throw location, runner jump, umpire call, etc…

I was listening to Jack Z on KIRO this afternoon, and he was asked about the shortstop situation. He pointed out that this is why they signed Jack Wilson, because the SS prospects are at least a year out, and I thought to myself, “Whatever the hell happened to Triunfel? Wasn’t he supposed to be glove on toast real soon now?”

So – what up with that? Has he turned out to be less than expected? Or did I misunderestimate his potential?

Late 2011. Plays in Tacoma for the first half of next year, I think.

The lack of a Game 129 Post has apparently reverberated to such an extent that there is also a lack of a “Big Fox” broadcast (regular or HD version) – at least in Southeastern, WA.

I was wondering who I should thank?

  15. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 1:40 pm

    Mike –

The game is being shown here in Seattle on our local Fox station (Q13). What game are they showing there, I wonder?

  16. msfanmike on August 28th, 2010 1:47 pm

Scott: There is no game. There isn’t anything … just a blank/black screen. The feed has apparently been cut and/or is experiencing technical difficulties, although there is no indication that there is even an issue. There is just “blackness.” Very symbolic actually.

Radio only at this time. I suppose I should go pull some damn weeds while listening.

  17. Carson on August 28th, 2010 1:55 pm

Chris Rose just wondered aloud if there is any way to determine how much defense contributes to wins by a club.

  18. MariLOLs on August 28th, 2010 1:58 pm

No game on Fox here in Yakima. Blackout?

  19. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 2:02 pm

Mike — That is rather symbolic of this season, isn’t it?

And, although they usually have these Saturday matinees featured as one of the games of the week, I’m actually surprised Big Fox is even giving the M’s any airtime at this point. Maybe playing the Twins, who happen to be leading their division, is one explanation.

  20. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 2:05 pm

Man, that Chris Rose is sure a future HOF broadcaster, I tell ya.

  21. msfanmike on August 28th, 2010 2:34 pm

I got half the weeds pulled with my trustee sidekick/backyard buddy (Annie the 18 month old Beagle that my wife insists was my idea) – and I checked on the status of the network feed … and it is back on.

I am not sure when it came back on, but it is back on now MariLOL’s. Last season we had a couple games that were not shown and I learned that it had something to do with a “cutover” feed. It is not because of a blackout. I would presume that today’s issue is also related to the “cutover” feed. Since Eastern, WA just got electricity a couple years ago, we have to deal with this phenomena from time to time.

And yes, Chris Rose is brutal.

Glad to see that Don Drysdale is pitching against us today … again! Koufax tomorrow?

  22. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 2:55 pm

Actually, Blackburn and Fister seem like kind of similar pitchers to each other and they’ve both pitched pretty well today…but, yeah, the robust offense of the M’s makes almost anybody look legendary.

Meanwhile, enter Sean White with gas can in hand.

  23. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 3:22 pm

Well, I guess Blackburn has now earned his place alongside guys like Santana and Radke amongst the pantheon of great Twins hurlers…

    Sigh.

  24. msfanmike on August 28th, 2010 3:37 pm

Highest ERA for any pitcher over 100 innings this season – shuts out the Mariners.

Only 1 thing from that statement is hard to believe: Blackburn’s ERA was higher than the Hyphen’s … which can only mean 1 of 2 things: Either I heard Chris Rose incorrectly, or the Hyphen never reached 100 innings pitched … which can only mean 1 of 2 things: There will not be a game 130 Thread or I will not watch tomorrow’s game … which can only mean 1 of 2 things: I do not care, or I am one game behind the masses who already do not care … which can only mean 1 of 2 things: The September 4th event will either be well attended or not attended at all … which can only mean 1 of 2 things: There will be a lot of tough questions for GMZ – or there will be a lot of tough quesions for GMZ from very few people.

  25. scott19 on August 28th, 2010 4:04 pm

Actually, Hyphen only made it to 98-1/3 innings before finishing his season on the, uh, “disabled” list.

Your stream of deductive reasoning right there was actually more entertaining than the game was, BTW! 🙂

  26. samregens on August 28th, 2010 4:54 pm

Z axes Wak just after a rare series win against the Rangers and after a tough stretch against mostly good teams.

Then we get some bad teams (like us), the A’s, Orioles, Indians, and win consecutive series, the new manager looks like a genius (or Wak looks bad according to plan), but then the good teams come up again, the Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, and our play and record is as bad or worse than before.

The manager got fired but it wasn’t him, this team was constructed poorly by the GM. Too many bad bets on shaky guys.

One thing Z (or was it Wak who insisted?) got right was getting Branyan back. Well this will be clear when we’ll see if Branyan can come back next year or not.
Next year we desperately need a guy who is proven to be able to come here to Safeco and the M’s (for whatever reason this combo has killed most FAs who come here, left handed or not) and mash around 30 HRs in the middle of the lineup. Branyan is a safe bet on a legitimate offensive threat at a relatively low price of 5 million.

Yeah sure he has some injury risks, but I think it is much more reasonable than betting on someone coming here and suddenly producing (like the Kotchman bet, etc.) or betting on someone to come here and not suddenly suck (Figgins), or betting on proven fragile players like Jack Wilson, Erik Bedard, or Milton Bradley.

I think we can forego individual game threads the rest of the way and just keep it here. We may actually reach 100 comments by game #162…

  28. msfanmike on August 28th, 2010 6:23 pm

@Scott: Thank you … glad I could help

Branyan is a safe bet on a legitimate offensive threat at a relatively low price of 5 million.

@Samregens: I agree with the “what we need” comments you made as well as the “bringing of Branyan back” comment, but with a caveat: I think Branyan will be able to be had for a lot less than the amount sitting on next years $5M option. The team isn’t going to try to bring him back at that price. I think they will work something out with him for a lot less money ($2M or less perhaps?) – or he will face what he faced last offseason (playing somewhere else that he would rather not be and making somewhere around $1.5M anywat. If the team does make a decision to keep him, they will find a way, but not at $5M.

One concerning side note: GMZ’s mission last offseason was to find some offense and some power. Same mission requirement this coming offseason with a luck more “yuck” power behind it from the stench of the 2010 season. They also need to see if they can find out what happened to Guti’s offensive game – before Ackley has to become the CF of the future. Adding the extra 10 pounds didn’t seem to work. Firing the hitting coach didn’t seem to work. Hitting him 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th didn’t seem to work.

I think we can forego individual game threads the rest of the way and just keep it here. We may actually reach 100 comments by game #162…

Good comment … very good … and I expect that we will find each other right here tomorrow Ken, with perhaps as many as 5 or 6 of our closest friends driving toward the target goal of 72 more comments in 33 games. If we make one aggregate comment for every Lopez/Guti/Figgy double play hit into; or one comment for every time the team is shutout over the next 33 games and add that number to the total # of hits Ichiro gets by seasons end (prediction is 46) – we can reach the 72 necessary by years end.

Sunday’s game – p’Tui is back in left.

Thinking positive… maybe Brown is under orders to get that #1 draft pick at any cost!

Thinking positive… maybe Brown is under orders to get that #1 draft pick at any cost!

I think there is 0.0% chance that we can “catch” Pittsburgh. They are 7 games ahead/back of us – with very little reason to believe that they are capable of winning 7 more games this season.

“p’Tui” … I like it. Nicely done. 70 more posts to go before we reach the magic number of 100 and the writers strike ends.
