This is kind of beating a dead horse but, does any else think that when the M’s are searching for the next manager, they should give him a copy of this years 25-Man roster and ask him to fill out a lineup card.

  2. Westside guy on September 1st, 2010 6:03 pm

It’s September 1 – why is Lopez playing?

    John, that’s a great idea!

  3. poordispatcher on September 1st, 2010 6:11 pm

Maybe not as much a pitching duel as yesterday but still something to see. Too bad I was staying up watching the game last night and was late to work this morning…I guess I’ll have to settle for checking the score in the morning.

  4. Carson on September 1st, 2010 6:56 pm

Sweet, so Lopez isn’t batting cleanup.

There is hope yet that Daren Brown isn’t insane.

  5. Carson on September 1st, 2010 7:09 pm

I hate when Derek does an awesome post and then turns the comments off. It’s a lot more interesting than this game thread will likely be.

  6. DMZ on September 1st, 2010 7:20 pm

What if I try to liven up the game thread?

  7. Carson on September 1st, 2010 7:26 pm

Sure. Go for it. I’m already three Pale Moons down, so it shouldn’t take much.

    Nice clutch hitting, Lopez.

  8. Swungonandbelted on September 1st, 2010 7:28 pm

I’m going to sit here and suck down Mike’s Hard Lemonades until the M’s take the lead, or I can no longer feel my face…whichever comes first….

  9. Carson on September 1st, 2010 7:29 pm

Dude. We have so many good beer choices. Mikes? I don’t want to come off as a beer prude, but come on.

  10. Swungonandbelted on September 1st, 2010 7:32 pm

Yeah, I know. It’s left over from the camping trip last weekend (Boy’s weekend out). I’m halfway through the first one one, and I think the Bridgeport IPA is starting to call my name….

  11. Swungonandbelted on September 1st, 2010 7:33 pm

Yup, that’s quite enough of that….slight modification to the plan…

I’m going to sit here and suck down Mike’s Hard Lemonades Bridgeport IPA until the M’s take the lead, or I can no longer feel my face…whichever comes first…

  12. Carson on September 1st, 2010 7:42 pm

    That a kid.

I haven’t had Bridgeport, but I’m starting to dig IPAs.

  13. mlathrop3 on September 1st, 2010 7:44 pm

Where is my fellow USSM better? I took the under 7.5 and feeling good about it.

Good call on the Bridgeport IPA!

  14. Westside guy on September 1st, 2010 7:44 pm

Selfish Ichiro. Making the rest of the order feel inferior. No wonder they’re doing so poorly – it’s Ichiro’s fault. DMZ’s post proves it.

  15. Swungonandbelted on September 1st, 2010 7:47 pm

It’s a little lighter than say, “Quail Springs” by Deschutes, and it has a really nice citrus note to it. Definitely worth giving the time of day. Elysian does one called “The Immortal IPA” which is also really good.

  16. DMZ on September 1st, 2010 7:55 pm

Blowers thinks it’s going to be hard on Pujols because they’ll “pitch around him” more.

Pujols’ career OBP is .426. He’ll be fine, Mike.

  17. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 7:57 pm

I going to sit here and revel in how frustrated Abreu looked last night as Felix totally owned him. In fact a couple of times he fooled him so badly he was obviously humiliated. Priceless.

You know I sense they have decided that Lopez is a fixture with the franchise. I expect him to be back next year. I for one welcome our new popup overlord.

  18. Carson on September 1st, 2010 7:58 pm

I’ve been staring down that Elysian in the store. Been on more of an Amber kick lately, tho. And the fall seasonals are starting to pop up.

  19. DMZ on September 1st, 2010 7:58 pm

If that was true they’d have signed him to an extension already while his value was at its nadir. Have faith.

  20. mlathrop3 on September 1st, 2010 8:00 pm

Tricerihops or Ruination IPA and be done with it.

  21. Carson on September 1st, 2010 8:02 pm

Heh. Trevor Bell’s grandpa was Bozo the Clown. That’s.. funny.

  22. Westside guy on September 1st, 2010 8:03 pm

Given Lopez’ foot speed, they should probably tell him he’s gone now so he can make it out of Safeco by the end of the season.

  23. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 8:15 pm

If this team could score even a few runs Vargas would have 14 wins by now. I think he’s for real. Felix would have 17 or more.

I didn’t realize Lopez was Trevor Bell’s grandfather.

  24. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 8:21 pm

“Almost hit a grand slam last night” Sims, how do I score that on my sheet?

An old saying involving horseshoes and hand grenades comes to mind.

Maybe we can get some prospects in the minors who “nearly” hit with power.

Ichiro just made a really hard catch look like nothing. However, it’s still all his fault.

  25. Swungonandbelted on September 1st, 2010 8:35 pm

Guti! My liver loves you and forgives you for hitting into a DP……

  26. Paul L on September 1st, 2010 8:43 pm

    I fucking love that guy.

  27. MariLOLs on September 1st, 2010 8:44 pm

WOOOOWWWWWWW!!! Beautiful catch. The bases loaded double play is forgiven.

  28. MariLOLs on September 1st, 2010 8:46 pm

Heh, you don’t get credit for the RBI when you hit into a DP, eh?

  29. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 8:52 pm

Watch out for the mugger out in center field, cuz Guti just ROBBED the Angels!!

  30. Breadbaker on September 1st, 2010 8:55 pm

Well, this is certainly no Haren/Felix match-up, now is it?

So far, not playing too much differently.

  31. SODOMOJO360 on September 1st, 2010 9:04 pm

I’m going to sit here and suck down Mike’s Hard Lemonades until the M’s take the lead, or I can no longer feel my face…whichever comes first….

    I hope you’re a chick.

  32. KCrotchman on September 1st, 2010 9:04 pm

You know when you got an offense that can score you 5 runs in a game once in a while you can get away with a mistake pitch every now and then. But with this team a 2 run homer is like an automatic loss. I feel so bad for these starters sometimes.

  33. SODOMOJO360 on September 1st, 2010 9:08 pm

feel so bad for these starters sometimes.

    I don’t. They’re making pretty good cash.

  34. Carson on September 1st, 2010 9:10 pm

    Oh, Ichiro.

  35. KCrotchman on September 1st, 2010 9:17 pm

Vargas don’t make near what these position players that are suppose to hit make.

  36. EthanN on September 1st, 2010 9:19 pm

What is with these pitchers and the high pants? They just look dorky

  37. juneau_fan on September 1st, 2010 9:22 pm

    I hate Sean White.

  38. EthanN on September 1st, 2010 9:22 pm

Dammit White!!! I blame the pants…

  39. MX on September 1st, 2010 9:24 pm

I didnt mention how much I love Sean White, did I?

  40. Paul L on September 1st, 2010 9:27 pm

    Sean White everybody!

  41. EthanN on September 1st, 2010 9:29 pm

I’m going to sit here and suck down Mike’s Hard Lemonades until the M’s take the lead, or I can no longer feel my face…whichever comes first….

Replace the Mike’s with Scotch and I’m in.

  42. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 9:30 pm

Wow, the Mariners hitting is so lousy that if the notorious Y. Betancourt was still here, he’d be the second best hitter on the team by a significant margin. That’s not an endorsement of Betancourt.

Sean White was allowed onto the field somehow. Don’t they have any security guards on duty at Safeco? It must be a publicity stunt, like when Veeck put a midget at bat in the old days. Ha! Ha! good one, you can put out the real pitcher now.

  43. EthanN on September 1st, 2010 9:34 pm

@cjhenry Sadly, when you say “real pitcher”, you eliminate pretty much the whole bullpen

  44. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 9:50 pm

Do you think that putting Sean White in is the managers way of giving the finger to the fans without drawing a fine? It’s the only explanation.

He is the human incarnation of the “Hot Carl”

  45. SODOMOJO360 on September 1st, 2010 9:54 pm

Vargas don’t make near what these position players that are suppose to hit make.

Ya that 500k a year is chump change

  46. Westside guy on September 1st, 2010 10:05 pm

Do you think that putting Sean White in is the managers way of giving the finger to the fans without drawing a fine? It’s the only explanation.

No, Mr. Brown is under the impression that Sean White is good because he “saw what he could do” while in Tacoma.

Doesn’t explain his continued love for Lopez though.

  47. cjhenry on September 1st, 2010 10:12 pm

I was just watching Krueger’s keys to the game. Good news, we won the game and Vargas “owned them”

Whew! I thought they’d gotten beat again.

  48. jordan on September 1st, 2010 10:40 pm

I think I am going to take the under in the betting odds every day. Two wins in a row!

  49. jephdood on September 1st, 2010 10:56 pm

Is there any chance Lopez gets kicked to the curb before the end of the year? I’m SO tired of his suck.

  50. tres_arboles on September 2nd, 2010 6:41 am

    @ Carson, you wrote,

Dude. We have so many good beer choices. Mikes? I don’t want to come off as a beer prude, but come on.

Dude, I don’t mean to be a beer snob, but you’re drinking a Coors product and complaining about someone else’s beverage of choice? Come on.
