    Woo Hoo!!

I know it is a tired complaint, but … Why is Lopez is in the lineup? Seriously, I cannot understand why he plays everyday at this point. Why Lopez but not Kotchamn? Why Lopez but not any other of the sub-replacement level veterans?

Really – why? Does anyone have any non-comical explanation?

  3. BillyJive on September 27th, 2010 3:31 pm

Could you at least put Lopez’s name in bold….

  4. Rick Banjo on September 27th, 2010 3:45 pm

I’m thinking everyone is basically out of ideas on Lopez, short of subjecting him to a month-long diet of hot pockets to see if he can post a shorter 40-yard dash.

Can Leon Washington hit a baseball? I bet we could get him for league minimum.

    Tom,

There’s only seven more games (including this one) – after that, you won’t have to think about Mr. Brown’s decision making ever again.

I also suspect we won’t have to think about Saunders ever again after this season – he’ll be traded as part of some package or another. I think that’s unfortunate, but I realize some of you will disagree.

  7. GoldenGutz on September 27th, 2010 4:12 pm

I doubt Saunders gets traded, they are just giving reps to Halman and Carp.

  8. Kazinski on September 27th, 2010 4:17 pm

    Why Lopez but not Kotchamn?

    That’s a distinction without a difference:
    Casey .217/.280/.336
    Lopez .237/.266/.336

There are only two reasons why you would pick one over the other, one is legit Wilson is a left handed pitcher. The second is plain comical, Lopez is significantly faster on the basepaths than Kotchman is.

  9. Chris_From_Bothell on September 27th, 2010 4:23 pm

Can’t believe I’m actually pining for Tui to DH. (Not bat 3rd, mind you…)

  10. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 4:25 pm

Langerhans would be a better option at DH than either Lopez or Kotchman, in my opinion.

  11. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 5:18 pm

Interesting. Dave just re-tweeted Ken Rosenthal.

Chuck Armstrong: “We are not thinking about changing the general manager at all.”

Well the Mariners combined OPS this year at he DH is .616, and Langerhans is at .656, so yes, why not?

Well, good. I didn’t think they were as stupid as most fans think they are.

They’re pretty close–I’m afraid they’ll dictate a change in long term strategy—but they’re not quite as stupid.

good hitting by rooks so far… nice play by Smoak there too.

  15. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 5:48 pm

“Langerhans! He doesn’t suck quite as badly as the other guys!” 😀

  16. G-Man on September 27th, 2010 6:03 pm

FWIW, I notice that Mangini keeps throwing into the runner – that is, to the dugout side of first base, far enough that Smoak moves into foul territory to catch it.

  17. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 6:03 pm

Not speaking of any play in particular – but Mangini’s throws over to first are an adventure.

  18. Breadbaker on September 27th, 2010 6:04 pm

It’s hardly any consolation, but I remember looking at this bizarre late season road trip on the schedule in March and thinking how terrible it would be to be in the middle of a pennant race and have to do all that flying.

  19. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 6:06 pm

    Great minds think alike, G-Man.

  20. G-Man on September 27th, 2010 6:13 pm

Westside- and of course, he makes a good feed to second and Blowers praises his glovework.

  21. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 6:16 pm

Maybe his glove’s good, it’s just the other hand that’s the problem. 😛

  22. the tourist on September 27th, 2010 6:23 pm

    SMOAK!

  23. Swungonandbelted on September 27th, 2010 6:24 pm

So… “That ball was Smoaked!”… or “Sending up a Smoak signal”….

  24. HubofPNW on September 27th, 2010 7:05 pm

Is it possible Lopez is being left in at the cherry production spot in the lineup to boost his anemic numbers? Perhaps to give him SOME value to move for other pieces? Or would it be plain smarter to not pick up his option?

You’d have to think he’s in there for SOME future purpose.

  25. DMZ on September 27th, 2010 7:19 pm

How could you move him at this point?
Why would they pick up his offer when no other team wants him at any price? It’s pretty clear he’s not worth it.

  26. Marinersmanjk on September 27th, 2010 7:24 pm

If the M’s pick up Loafie’s option or find some way to put him on next year’s roster I’ll shit myself and never watch Mariners baseball again.

  27. DMZ on September 27th, 2010 7:29 pm

Really? That’s the final bowel-loosening straw? After… okay! It is a heavy straw.

  28. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 7:47 pm

Crap – I had to leave just before Smoak’s homer.

He’s DEFINITELY looking better this time around…

  29. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 7:48 pm

Hey I was watching Baby Steps closely there… and I think I finally figured it out. He’s got a short string tied between his ankles.

The sneaky son of a gun used fishing line hoping nobody would notice.

  31. Westside guy on September 27th, 2010 8:15 pm

Watching the “AAA lineup” we’ve been running out there for the past couple of games definitely gives me some hope for the future.

  32. Kazinski on September 27th, 2010 9:41 pm

    Damn,
we have to cross Ozzie off our list for manager next year:

Williams said that if a team called asking permission to talk to Guillen about their manager vacancy, he would tell them that Guillen wasn’t interested.

Somehow I think Jack may have passed on Ozzie even if he were available.

  33. Henry on September 27th, 2010 9:49 pm

Ichiro had the highest SLG in today’s lineup, and it wasn’t even close.
