Happy Thanksgiving

Dave · November 25, 2010 at 8:41 am · Filed Under Mariners

It hasn’t exactly been a year where we look back and say “man, aren’t we lucky to be Mariners fans”, but I want to thank you guys for sticking around anyway. I know the site hasn’t been as active as it used to be, with Derek enjoying retirement and my attention being shifted to FanGraphs because, well, they put food on my table, but you guys have stuck with us anyway. Here’s to hoping in a year we can celebrate a successful Mariners season, and list all of the good new players we’re thankful for.

Until then:

Felix! Ichiro! Death To Flying Things! Smoak! I am thankful for you all.

And have everyone have a 5 WAR holiday.

    Thank you very much, Dave.

    Have a nice Thanksgiving.

My OPS+ is off the charts today!! Thanks Dave.

side note- (you conveniently left Pineda and Ackley off your thankful list)

    Happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone.

Even though this season was painful, there are worse things–personally, I’m thankful I wasn’t a big Sonics’ fan.

Thanks for not being Churchill and charging us for “premium” content. All your stuff is premium.

I’ve got things to be thankful for as an M’s fan.. I’m glad I started really following this team at about rock bottom (Bavasi, ’08) and from then on we’re going uphill. ’10 season was un-fun at the ML-level, but I had plenty of fun in Tacoma and watching a real minor league system in the midst of its birth. A lot of things are going right for us from the perspective of building a perrennially fun-to-watch team in Seattle over the coming years.

Happy Thanksgiving Dave. Thanks for keeping this blog going for all of us.

Thank you, Dave, for keeping the site going.

Thank you, Derek, for your occasional bouts of un-retirement – and all the work you’ve put in though the years.

Thank you, all, for the fun, interesting, and informative conversations.

And if the worst thing we’ve got to complain about in our lives is that our baseball team currently sucks… well, I’d say that’s something to be thankful for as well.

    I second RJJunior.

This site is the best and most comprehensive Mariners coverage across all platforms. Thanks for all the hard work and have a happy thanksgiving.

    I third RJJunior. Thanks all.

Happy Thanksgiving, Dave. I am grateful for your efforts to help make this baseball community better informed and aware. It is often a thankless task, and I, for one, am happy you haven’t reached the end of your tolerance for the unintended consequences that come along with your work.

    and get-togethers! I’m thankful for gabby get-togethers!

I’m sorry but I want to disagree with RJ, Duncan and Chris. We are fortunate to have the best blog community in MLB. This site is great, but there are others that are great as well including PI.

  14. Duncan Idaho on November 26th, 2010 4:08 am

Shemberry, I would venture a guess that many of us do pay for the content at PI. And as it so happens I believe it is well worth it. We were thanking Dave and the rest of USSM for not going down a similar path with this site.

And I will that Dave Cameron’s voice in Mariner analysis is unparalleled across any platform. To me he is the Dave Niehaus of Mariners analysis. That is to say he has no equal whether it be other internet sites, newspapers or the radio. Thanks again Dave.

Not sure where to put this, but Dave, I was hoping you could do a Manny post. I see he’s seeking a one year, incentive laden contract and wants to serve as a full time DH. It seems we should at least give him a look.

  16. NODO Dweller on November 26th, 2010 2:09 pm

See the “DH Candidates” post from October on why he’s a bad fit.

  17. spankystout on November 26th, 2010 2:52 pm

Do you really want Manny Ramirez and Milton Bradley is the same locker room? One controversial personality should be the limit, IMO.

  18. Westside guy on November 26th, 2010 4:13 pm

Old guy, fading skill-set, takes offense regarding money absurdly easily, looking for what he calls an “incentives-laden” contract but which almost certainly would require a base salary higher than the money the Mariners have available in total… no thanks.

I returned to the gane fairly late in life, having been a Little Leaguer, and the pursuing girls and music, in my 40’s I fell in love with the game again. ’97 season; sometime later, thankfully, I found this site, which has kept me from becoming a moron fan.
When I started visiting, the site had Dave, Derek, and I think a now mythological creature called Jeff Sullivan. I appreciate all the outstanding work done here in the past, and look forward to new voices in the future.
My friends all consider me a stat-head, because I read Bill James, and read this site, and will patiently explain fundamentals like WAR. I thank this site, and it’s creators and owners, for educating me.
I certainly felt great when Felix got the recognition this year. All those who have labored in the dark to teach me, and others, should bask a bit in the light.
Plus, have you read any Yankee threads about how CC was robbed, because the only thing that matters is W/L? It’s hilarious, and delicious!

I guess I should be thankful for this site, but I take it for granted.
Stopping a moment to look at it though, it’s awesome: not just Dave’s analysis and that of the other writers, but also most of the comments of those who post.
Reading USS MARINER is the most enjoyable part of my day.

Happy Thanksgiving, Dave. Thank you for this blog and your insight on my favorite team in baseball.
