M’s Avoid Arbitration With Everyone

The Mariners have announced that they have reached agreements with David Aardsma, Brandon League, and Jason Vargas, avoiding arbitration with all three. We’ll get numbers soon, but expect something like $4 million for Aardsma, $2 million for League, and $2 million for Vargas.

    According to the Seattle Times:

    Aardsma – $4.5M
    League – $2.25M
    Vargas – $2.45M

In other arbitration avoiding news, the Tigers gave Armando Galarraga a non-guaranteed $2.5m deal.

    ….and then DFA’d him 6 hours later.

I presume the non-guaranteed part makes him more appealing for a potential trade partner. Is he worth taking a shot at?

Well, we already know Galarraga is a high character guy with high upside, from the small sample size of the near-perfect game. 😉 And he’s on the correct side of 30 for one more year. Might sew up the back of the rotation well in a rebuilding year.

Is there a spare outfielder and/or long relief guy somewhere to throw them? And could the Ms change his deal in any way, or would they have to accept 1 year / $2.5m?

Maybe Galarraga and 1.5 million for Matt Mangini and a low level prospect… I would love this trade

This Aardsma injury chafes my hide. No fault of his, of course, but his ill-timed injury at a time when he actually had some trade value (and when clearing that salary may have resulted in another inning-eating reliever) is yet another example of the Mariners’ astonishing run of bad luck for the last year or so.
