Cactus League Game 29, M’s at Rockies

You can still listen to not-very-meaningful baseball being played today. This lineup looks a lot like one that you might see to start the season.

RF Ichiro!
3B Figgins
LF Bradley
DH Cust
1B Smoak
CF Saunders
C Moore
SS Ryan
2B Wilson (I no longer have to clarify which one)

P Vargas

Available bullpen pitchers will include Josh Lueke, Brandon League, and Chris Ray, along with minor league arms such as LH Bobby LaFromboise and RH Stephen Penney. Penney is kind of interesting because he’s a strong arm with good command, though from what I remember of last season, he was just awful when it came to preventing inherited runners from scoring.

Wow, this is probably the least enthused I’ve been for a game all spring. Need to start the season already.

So the hysteria of ‘what’s wrong with Cust??’ from yesterday comes to nothing?

    Guess just a mild strain

Sure, Moore Ryan and Wilson are a little thin at the bottom, but man it’s amazing what we had talked ourselves into being excited about last season… This is a much better lineup then what we marched out last April, and it’s still only a league average offense at BEST.

4 runs a game would be nice, and seems at least plausible. It would probably put us in the vicinity of .500 ball, depending on the bullpen getting better as the season progresses.

Four runs a game sounds heavenly right now…

Smoak, Saunders, and Baron with back-to-back-to-back singles for the win in the bottom of the 9th (and 7 runs). Could get used to that πŸ™‚

I know it’s spring training, but a number of Mariners (Smoak, Figgins, Saunders, Ryan) had some very good at bats in this game against decent pitchers. And the Legend of Steven Baron just continues to grow, but seeing as how it started the size of a sea monkey, we can probably wait to make room on the 40 man.

The game where Felix dominated the Yankees in on the MLB network.

Kinda hard to watch, though, as Dave is calling the game. Going to miss him.

Wait for Steve Baron? Hell no! Put him on the roster. Trade Olivo.

Geez, a few doubles off Felix and some spring-training hits and Baron has gone from pariah to messiah.

I’m as hopeful as the next guy but come on folks, let’s get out of “SSSville” before we all start drinking the Baron-aid.
