Game 10, Blue Jays At Mariners

Dave · April 11, 2011 at 5:35 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Hernandez vs Litsch, 7:10 pm.

Happy Felix Day!

The Blue Jays are known for whacking the ball out of the park, but they have a lot more RH power than LH power, and with Felix on the mound and Safeco behind him, this is a good match-up for the M’s. Felix is always a good match-up, but this one especially so. Litsch is a classic Blue Jays pitcher – ehh velocity, throws a cutter, gets more outs than you’d think with his stuff. He’s not a strikeout guy, but against the M’s, you don’t have to be.

Jack Wilson is back in the line-up. Wedge says it’s over. Maybe, but his time here this year was limited anyway, and it’s hard to see that this little dust-up won’t accelerate the schedule for shipping him out.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 3B
Bradley, LF
Cust, DH
Smoak, 1B
Olivo, C
Saunders, CF
Ryan, SS
Wilson, 2B

Why is Pineda being passed over tonight? Did they just see a good opportunity to get some rest for his young arm?

  2. Carson on April 11th, 2011 5:51 pm

The reason given was to keep Felix on his normal rest.

  3. jordan on April 11th, 2011 5:57 pm

    Hmm, two LF?

  4. Andrew34 on April 11th, 2011 5:57 pm

As Carson said they didn’t pass over Pineda (he’s pitching tomorrow). Wedge wants to give Felix 5 days rest instead of 6 (even though Felix got 6 almost all of last year).

  5. Westside guy on April 11th, 2011 5:58 pm

There’s going to be a bad gap in our outfield coverage, what with Ichiro in right and two guys in left. But maybe a lot of those right handed Jays bats are pull hitters, so having two guys man left field makes sense. :-D

  6. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 6:42 pm

So Brandon Morrow follows Hannahan, Choo, and Cabrera as the latest ex-Mariner to come to town and survey the wreckage.

  7. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 6:48 pm

    NEWS BRIEF:
Gutierrez was taking batting practice and shagging fly balls at Safeco today, before heading down for a few rehab at bats in Tacoma. He’s lost 15 pounds and needs to get his “game feet”, but should be back soon.

  8. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 6:51 pm

I’d rather listen to Buhner than Krueger.

  9. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 7:11 pm

Anybody else think its somewhat ironic that Jack WIlson is back the same day that Felix is back on the mound?

  10. Glen on April 11th, 2011 7:13 pm

Anyone else having 90′s flashbacks with the teal jerseys?

  11. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 7:14 pm

Anyone else having 90’s flashbacks with the teal jerseys?

I heard we scored runs back then.

  12. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:16 pm

    Wakamatsu in the Jays dugout.

  13. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 7:18 pm

Interesting move by Wedge to put Wilson back onto this particular horse, fielding behind Felix.

  14. Kevin Rudolph on April 11th, 2011 7:21 pm

Does Felix have a Brandon League style haircut?

  15. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:22 pm

Some kind of stripe down the back of his head.

  16. texasmarinerfan on April 11th, 2011 7:22 pm

Your 2011 Seattle Mariners, so bad a caveman could play.

  17. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:23 pm

That single by Ichiro, he hit that ball off his shoe tops. Well, not quite, it was probably just barely above his ankles.

  18. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 7:23 pm

    MUST. SCORE. FIRST.

  19. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:24 pm

Interesting move by Wedge to put Wilson back onto this particular horse, fielding behind Felix.

Yes, because nothing distracts a pitcher more than having one of the best shortstops in the past five years playing defense behind you?

This is such a non-issue in my mind. I understand it made great press for a struggling team, but essentially a guy couldn’t shake the negative feelings/distractions of having blown two easy plays, took himself out of the game. Pissed off his manager, now it’s over.

Wedge says it’s over. And “I don’t hold grudges, never have, never will.”

I’m sure Felix is fine with having dual shortstops playing “D” behind him.

  20. Tom in Edmonds on April 11th, 2011 7:25 pm

    Figgins, finally!

  21. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:25 pm

Looks like Bradley has the earplugs in again.

  22. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:26 pm

Does Felix have a Brandon League style haircut?

You guys didn’t see when Felix showed up for spring with a mohawk? (No lie.) Couple of guys teasingly called it the “Fe-hawk”, threatened to do the same.

It’s starting to grow out now, so looks like a black on black skunk stripe at the moment.

  23. Andrew34 on April 11th, 2011 7:27 pm

The strikeout show has begun. Didn’t Jered Weaver get 15 against these same Jays? Hehehe this could be the 3rd game I’ve been looking forward to all year :)

  24. teddyballgame9 on April 11th, 2011 7:27 pm

oh, i thought “Wedge says it’s over” meant Jack’s career as a Mariner was over. Glad that is not the case. Not the best hitter, but always entertaining to see him on defense.

  25. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:31 pm

Cust swing was really late on strike 3.

Ah, man, all we needed this inning was one more hit.

  26. mlathrop3 on April 11th, 2011 7:31 pm

    The power of perception again

  27. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:33 pm

There’s a part of me I can’t explain, that just really wishes we had signed Vlad Guerrero to be our DH… Yeah, he’s lost a little, but he’s so entertaining a hitter, with “crush” power. He’s like Beltre on steroids. Peculiar hitter with lots of ticks, who’ll swing at anything. And put most of it into play.

    Cust– less interesting.

  28. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:34 pm

Smoak with a #10 kid on the tee ball team swing… U-G-L-Y.

  29. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 7:34 pm

MrZDevotee, I wasn’t saying crap about Felix. He strikes me as a young man who’d never run down his defenders or worry about them.

Wilson was the one who brought up not wanting to blow Felix’s games. And yes, Wedge was going to put him back in sometime. I just thought it was a nice touch to make it on Felix Day.

Thanks for the interpretative dance of my comment, though.

  30. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:35 pm

Bases loaded, 2 out. Have Ichiro steal home! No matter how it ends up, it would be entertaining.

  31. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:35 pm

Hey Dave (Cameron) they hijacked your story. Hope you get a royalty.

  32. pgreyy on April 11th, 2011 7:36 pm

Dave Cameron, secret Root Sports contributor?

  33. teddyballgame9 on April 11th, 2011 7:36 pm

    grand salam….

  34. ayoon on April 11th, 2011 7:37 pm

LOL. I was wondering how many people saw that stat by “Root Sports.” At least we know they’re reading your blog!

  35. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:37 pm

And the inning ends with a whimper.

  36. Andrew34 on April 11th, 2011 7:39 pm

    …..

  37. Tom in Edmonds on April 11th, 2011 7:39 pm

two on, no outs, so what! sigh

  38. Dave on April 11th, 2011 7:39 pm

The M’s TV producer posts here, and is a good guy. It doesn’t bother me – glad to see him using the blog to help make the broadcasts better.

  39. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 7:40 pm

But I demanded they score! Whattha!?

  40. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 7:41 pm

    Juneau-
Sorry, you weren’t the first to say something, just the closest one to grab of quote from.

In light of the other comments (including Dave’s in the game post), I didn’t see anything in your comment obviously positive, so mistook it for one of the group of “Wilson concerns”.

I just don’t find it that interesting. Jack Wilson is one of the better defenders on this team, and (sadly) not the worst hitter on the team.

Wedge definitely made an example of him, but it was just a teaching moment, pretty obviously (for the young guys, probably, moreso than Wilson).

Glad you like my dance, anyways. I practice that in the mirror.

  41. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:41 pm

Looks like Bradley has the earplugs in again.

It probably allows him to hear the voices inside his own head much more clearly.

  42. harry on April 11th, 2011 7:41 pm

That sucked. That really summed it all up, right there.

  43. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:43 pm

Cust swing was really late on strike 3.

I think he swung in stages. Awful, awful two loop motion. Cust is terrible.

  44. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 7:45 pm

    Game.

  45. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:46 pm
Anyone else having 90’s flashbacks with the teal jerseys

    ?

No … but I am having a flashback to last Friday night when they worked so well.

  46. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:47 pm

    Game.

    Good call

  47. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 7:49 pm

I wish that Buhner was our broadcaster. Hear how much better it is now?

  48. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:49 pm

So Brandon Morrow follows Hannahan, Choo, and Cabrera as the latest ex-Mariner to come to town and survey the wreckage.

Morrow got lit up on a Class A (high A- though)rehab assignment against Clearwater (Phillies) last week, so he is probably ready to dominate the Mariners by now.

  49. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 7:51 pm

Anybody feel sorry for Chris Chambliss?

What’s the line on the date he gets canned this year?

  50. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 7:56 pm

Does Felix have a Brandon League style haircut?

A billy goat on the chin topped off with a League’esque mohawk.

No real need for additional comment.

  51. poordispatcher on April 11th, 2011 7:57 pm

MLB.com/tickets commercial…the only thing the M’s get to show is the frantic girl who had Ichiro fell in her laps chasing down a fly ball…

  52. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:02 pm

Hey Dave (Cameron) they hijacked your story

Potentially expediting the trade of Wilson? Was this really a secret? A bit provocative, perhaps, but who couldn’t see this coming?

GMZ probably started making calls as soon as Wilson made that great infield play last week. Too bad there wasn’t more of a gestation period between it and the 2 subsequent games (catchable line drive at SS that was missed and led to Texas’ winning run … and then the “event.”

  53. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 8:03 pm

  56. Paul B on April 11th, 2011 8:04 pm

The ball came loose, otherwise they would have had him picked off at second. Barely.

  57. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:04 pm

Ryan is known for his glove, huh?

    Huh!!!

  58. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 8:05 pm

Ryan is known for his glove, huh?

Maybe he does ventriliquism with it or something

  59. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:06 pm

Maybe they should move Wilson to short one last time – right before they trade him.

  60. MrZDevotee on April 11th, 2011 8:06 pm

    MsFan-
Um, no actually, by “Dave’s Article” I meant the comparison between Baltimore and the Mariners… similar stats, horribly different results.

Root Sports did the same comparison a while back.

  61. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 8:06 pm

Whenever they show Bradley chasing a rattler in the corner, he reminds me of my crippled old Mom when she’s trying to catch her nasty little terrier to give it a bath.

  62. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:06 pm

Maybe he does ventriliquism with it or something

    Nicely done, sir

  63. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 8:08 pm

Now my laugh has a hysterical edge.

It’s like some bad joke. How many Mariners does it take to catch a pop-up?

  71. djw on April 11th, 2011 8:12 pm

That pathetic play by Ryan and the subsequent run was just shown on the MLB channel, btw; the crew had a good laugh about the ineptitude of the mariners.

“That is exactly what bad teams do”

  72. seahawks506 on April 11th, 2011 8:13 pm

wow, if we can’t even win on the night felix pitches

  73. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 8:13 pm

Has a team ever quit this early in the season before?

  74. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 8:14 pm

Which pathetic play, djw? There were a couple in that inning.

  75. harry on April 11th, 2011 8:15 pm

3 runs, six innings to go… That’s pretty much an insurmountable lead they have. Wow, do the M’s suck.

  76. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:16 pm

wow, if we can’t even win on the night felix pitches

Only if he gives up less than 2 runs and he knows it … and it shows. He is pressing a bit and the team (on defense) is pressing a lot – because they know it too.

  77. seahawks506 on April 11th, 2011 8:16 pm

on the plus side, this team will have more wins this season… they will be few and far between though. what a rut the M’s are in…

  78. djw on April 11th, 2011 8:16 pm

the pick off into stolen base.

  79. texasmarinerfan on April 11th, 2011 8:18 pm

The mariners need to win 27 in order to be better than the worst team in baseball history. I doubt they will get those wins.

  80. djw on April 11th, 2011 8:18 pm

I don’t get Mariners games out here in “the heartland.” I have to wait until they humiliate themselves badly enough to get mocked on national TV. On the upside, I get to see a lot of M’s action so far this year…

  81. poordispatcher on April 11th, 2011 8:20 pm

    13,056???!!!
Isn’t that a record low attendance?

  82. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:21 pm

If we end up with the second pick in the ’09, ’11, and ’12 drafts … can we someday aspire to be as good as the Royals?

Gerrit Cole (P) seems to be emerging as the top choice – can’t miss prospect – this year … which means we won’t get him. Anthony Rendon (3B for Rice)is struggling a bit offensively this season. It may be related to the new bats the NCAA is using. Maybe not. Does anyone have any good 411 (i.e. a scouting report from this year) on Rendon to pass along?

  83. mlathrop3 on April 11th, 2011 8:21 pm

My question is why is anyone sitting farther back than the 9th row at Safeco?

  84. JasonJ on April 11th, 2011 8:21 pm

Walked into the other room where Fox News was on and Bill O’Reilly stated something along the lines of “blah blah blah, we can say that the Seattle Mariners are going to win the World Series all we want, the fact is, it isn’t going to happen”.

Even Bill O’Reilly is picking on the Mariners…

  85. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 8:23 pm

Oh good … Cust is up. Is he ever going to knock in a run?

  86. seahawks506 on April 11th, 2011 8:26 pm

  107. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 8:35 pm

Is there ever such a thing as “getting into a jam” against this lineup? I imagine standing on the mound as an opposing pitcher to be about as stressful as a leisurely stroll through the park.

Phook me. Smoak swung at a slow breaking ball heading toward his back leg. Nice approach.

Yep, it’s a process alright. A process filled with shitty hitters until we can get some better hitters.

Is it too early or too late to trade for Branyan (again) and his chiropractor?

  111. lalo on April 11th, 2011 8:36 pm

    Poor Felix, he´ll need a psychiatrist…

So…. will the M’s get Rendon or Cole?

  118. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 8:41 pm

So they stated earier in the game that Wakamatsu could give such a great scouting report. I think this is how it goes:

Blue Jays: So how do we beat Felix?

    Wak: Score one run

Blue Jays: So can you tell us how we can get their offense out?

Wak: (Laughing hysterically) Maybe throw it underhand to give them a chance to give our infielders som excercise.

  119. Rayvensdad on April 11th, 2011 8:41 pm

So, let me get this straight: I didn’t expect a championship season, nor a division championship, not even a look at a playoff run………………… But do we honestly not have A #@$% SINGLE PLAYER WHO CAN PLAY THIS GAME?!?!?!?!?! No one can hit, not even Felix can pitch it seems, what the @#$% is going on?! Who in that @#$% club house is going to step up and smack some sense into these guys? Oh, that’s right, there isn’t a leader on this team. Dump 18 of em!!! Bring up all of your best talented youngsters and see what they can do! HONESTLY, How is it going to be any worse??? @#$$%^ Pathetic!

Can we get Bloomquist back? He’ll of a start in Arizona.

  123. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 8:45 pm

This team is absolute garbage. Unwatchable trash that gives up before they even take the field. What was the point of firing Wak if Wedge is going to continue the same listless/hapless style of managing. If I’m Ackley I’m having nightmares about being called up to this ****show. Zdurienick is an absolute clown if he legitimately thought he was fielding a better team this year than last. If he knows he was selling us a lemon under the guise of “turning things around,” that’s another story.

    See everybody tomorrow.

  124. Eclipsial on April 11th, 2011 8:46 pm

look at bright side! Not only do we get the 2nd overall pick on this years draft but we get the #1 overall pick in next years draft as well! Woot!

Two good players at the top this year too. Though if they become a mariner their suck factor will probably quadruple.

  129. mlathrop3 on April 11th, 2011 8:49 pm

On the other hand, I have had quite the run betting against the M’s lately.

I hope they pull Felix already.

The best performance today: Michael Saunders hitting flying balls to the opposite side, “progress”!

This team is absolute garbage. Unwatchable trash that gives up before they even take the field.

You have to remember that “it is a process.”

I am already tired of that line, Wedge. Please get a new one.

I am looking at driving 200+ miles – one way – to go see a day game on May 19th against the Angels (31st row slightly slightly to the 1B side of home plate). Seriously? Why?! I may have to put it up for auction. Face value $60. Real world value: Priceless, no doubt. Bidders, any?

  151. King.Dome on April 11th, 2011 9:12 pm

Smoak is definitely showing good signs early on (minus the strikeout last ab of course).

  152. henryv on April 11th, 2011 9:12 pm

So when is Jack accountable for this mess? In all honesty, is he really that much better than, gulp, Bavasi?

Answer to question 1: More than likely he won’t be the GM at the end of the season. Answer to question 2: Yes. Look at every single Bavasi signing or trade. Except for Beltre, every one has been horrible, or worse.

  153. VinnyInVan on April 11th, 2011 9:12 pm

And sure enough, he just hit a double. Figures.

  155. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 9:13 pm

So when is Jack accountable for this mess? In all honesty, is he really that much better than, gulp, Bavasi?

First off, he got the unenviable task of offloading the crappy contracts that Bavasi gave out (should be done by this year). Also, our farm system was obliterated by Bavasi (see Choo, Cabrera, Jones, Tillman, etc.). While Jack Z has had signings that did not work out (see Figgins, Chone) but this was one that everyone thought would be perfect, including Mariners fans. He also did a bad trade with Morrow but look at what he’s done: SIgned Felix to a long term contract, gotten a great draft with Ackley and Franklin, traded for Guti, traded for hopefully a franchise 1B out of a player we KNEW we weren’t getting back. I think he’s done a pretty damn good job its just that he screwed himself with that good first year because we now have higher expectations but Jack is really doing a good job trying to set upour entire system to win for a long time but when you do that, it DOES take a while. Ask the Rays.

  156. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 9:15 pm

  157. VinnyInVan on April 11th, 2011 9:16 pm

It doesn’t always take a while. Especially not with the budget we have. And sometimes, you gotta get players that fit the park and the system. Numbers in Tacoma don’t always translate to numbers in Seattle.

  158. OffensivelyChallenged on April 11th, 2011 9:19 pm

The ball does not fly well in safeco. It’s like it is going through butter.
Except when the other team hits it. Odd that way.

Not odd at all. More than most other sports, baseball is mental. Our players play so many games in this park where deep fly balls end up being only outs. They start changing their approaches to hitting and start scuffling. Other teams come here from non-pitchers parks and the added confidence compensates for the park.

  160. Rayvensdad on April 11th, 2011 9:20 pm

Yeah juneau_fan… I watched the Indians on the home opener and they had NO PROBLEM hitting that ball, especially Asdrubal Cabrera in the 1st inning, and he’s not even a home run hitting batter… he got two in the three game series. It is all mental! This team has no leadership. They have no teamwork mentality. These are individual players trying to make it one their own. To fix that, you put up guys who are young and have to lean on each other for assistance and help. When Jack left the game against Texas, where the hell was his teammates trying to instill that he screwed up but to forget about it and go make up for it??? With the exception of the ’09 team, this Mariners organization has NEVER seemed to coexist in the dugout or on the field. If you’re not hitting, fielding, or rooting for your own team, how the @#$% do you expect the team to pull out of this pathetic slump???

  161. neo-realist on April 11th, 2011 9:22 pm

look at bright side! Not only do we get the 2nd overall pick on this years draft but we get the #1 overall pick in next years draft as well! Woot

In 2012 baseball draft, there will be an HS outfielder by the name of Nick Williams available–second coming of Darryl Strawberry without the Drug and Alcohol issues. If there was an excellent chance of getting him with a really bad season, it may just be worth it.

  162. Rayvensdad on April 11th, 2011 9:22 pm

I’m looking at the stats… why is the botched pickle play the M’s had earlier not considered an error and a un-earned run for Felix??? How can you botch a pickle and not get an error for it???

  163. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 9:24 pm

  167. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 9:28 pm

In all honesty, is he really that much better than, gulp, Bavasi?

I feel your pain, I truly do … but there isn’t anybody from this Blog site who isn’t better than Bavasi. Bavasi became a Front Office Executive practically as a birthright and it would be hard to find many who are worse than he was. However, Jack does now have 7 of “his guys” fielding the 8 every day positions (one out on IR) – so I understand your point.

    Just remember, “it’s a process.”

No, I don’t know what that means, either.

  168. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 9:30 pm

Corey Patterson hits a home run off him!………………

Just continuing the Cabrera, Choo, Hannahan trend – no doubt. We needed another reminder. It’s been so long since the last one.

  169. VinnyInVan on April 11th, 2011 9:31 pm

    …or, they’re just better hitters.

This game underscores my point. The no-name Jays hitters smacked King Felix around and guys like Smoak can’t even hit a sacrifice fly. Bradley’s reduced to hitting singles.

  170. MedicineHat on April 11th, 2011 9:33 pm

I really want to beleive that Lincoln/Armstrong are in a conspiracy to destroy this team. Maybe they have put a curse on the team since 2001. Maybe its something like they will never be gone unless a Mariner hits 40 home runs in a year then they will be banished to the netherworld.

Would it be a bad idea to draft a 3b, like say Anthony Rendon and a big power hitter with a pulse in this years draft and just put them on the M’s roster right away? Screw the minors. Half the kids in my hometown little league would help this sorry group….. I would have to think polished college or high school players would do wonders….

  239. Carson on April 11th, 2011 10:35 pm

Holy shit. This has to be close to a record of futility by Olivo tonight.

  240. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 10:35 pm

    Miguel Olivo, great pickup Jack!

  241. henryv on April 11th, 2011 10:35 pm

    2-12, here we come.

  242. poordispatcher on April 11th, 2011 10:36 pm

How is Olivo an upgrade…and worth $7m/2yrs?

  243. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:36 pm

So ESPN box score has us still at 7-1 no matter how many times I refresh the page. I guess they aren’t used to actually scoring us lol

  244. OffensivelyChallenged on April 11th, 2011 10:36 pm

Rob Johnson at least would of struck out.

  245. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2011 10:37 pm

Ten f’ing walks. Win or lose this team is annoying.

  246. ppl on April 11th, 2011 10:37 pm

The walks sure look good when you see a true free swinger in action.

  247. Jack Howland on April 11th, 2011 10:38 pm

    13,056???!!!
Isn’t that a record low attendance?

I could easily be wrong, but I think it’s the lowest attendance since the 12,102 on 9/12/95. Tomorrow could be worse though since today was 1/2 price night.

  248. dsmiley on April 11th, 2011 10:38 pm

According to Gameday, Olivo has left ten on base. TEN!

  249. jase411 on April 11th, 2011 10:41 pm

How the hell is Olivo earning his money today? What is Buhner smoking…

  250. Chipanese on April 11th, 2011 10:43 pm

This better not end like the Tacoma game…

  251. pareto on April 11th, 2011 10:43 pm

well, if you can’t string hits together, i guess trying to string walks together is another strategy…

  252. pareto on April 11th, 2011 10:44 pm

According to Gameday, Olivo has left ten on base. TEN!

he’s two away from the record of 12.

  253. poordispatcher on April 11th, 2011 10:44 pm

I could easily be wrong, but I think it’s the lowest attendance since the 12,102 on 9/12/95. Tomorrow could be worse though since today was 1/2 price night.

I meant SAFECO Field…I think last season there’s a game with 14k+ and it was mentioned in the paper next day that it was a record low since the new ball park opened.

  254. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:44 pm

Is there ANYONE to pinch hit?

  255. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:45 pm

    CONDOOOOOOOOORRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  256. dsmiley on April 11th, 2011 10:45 pm

    C-C-C-C-Condor!

  257. lalo on April 11th, 2011 10:45 pm

    Saunders is great!

  258. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:46 pm

Haha the pitcher is having a nervous breakdown right now

  259. RRR on April 11th, 2011 10:46 pm

Saunders! There are more people on USSM than at Safeco!

  260. King.Dome on April 11th, 2011 10:46 pm

Where did the condor nickname come from?

  261. Carson on April 11th, 2011 10:46 pm

Why exactly is Saunders batting behind Olivo again?

I know these things don’t matter a ton, but Olivo is a black hole and should be hitting 8th.

  262. dsmiley on April 11th, 2011 10:47 pm

Wouldn’t it be interesting in Jack Wilson got a walkoff hit?

EDIT: Oh, well I guess that won’t be happening.

  263. sniper61 on April 11th, 2011 10:47 pm

“Haha the pitcher is having a nervous breakdown right now”

Because he knows the pitching coach has been sharpening the butcher knife for the other 10 pitchers they went through today.

  264. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:47 pm

Is Wilson capable of a fly ball?

Ah, Kennedy. Well, he is leading the team in HR’s, right?

  265. lalo on April 11th, 2011 10:47 pm

    What a perfect bunt there.

  266. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:47 pm

Wouldn’t it be interesting in Jack Wilson got a walkoff hit?

Lol nope. Wedge must still be hating him

  267. VinnyInVan on April 11th, 2011 10:48 pm

Maybe I was wrong about Saunders and Smoak. There’s still hope… ;-)

  268. jordan on April 11th, 2011 10:49 pm

I just saw rally fingers… haven’t seen that since high school.

  269. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:49 pm

    Blank, blank, blank!

  270. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:50 pm

    Seriously? Damnit Kennedy!

Btw if Ichiro bunts here I go freaking Hulk on my TV

  271. groundzero55 on April 11th, 2011 10:50 pm

Clutch groundout, to the only place where we couldn’t score the run.

  272. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:50 pm

haha I liked the chicken sound effect

  273. Adam S on April 11th, 2011 10:50 pm

Was just going to ask, don’t you HAVE to walk Ichiro here, winning run or not?

  274. jase411 on April 11th, 2011 10:51 pm

I can’t believe they even threw 2 pitches to Ichiro…

  275. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:51 pm

I just saw rally fingers… haven’t seen that since high school.

Is that what that was. I thought she was trying to cast a spell.

  276. jordan on April 11th, 2011 10:51 pm

Oh geezzz… out hopes all lay on Luis rodriguez

  277. Adam S on April 11th, 2011 10:51 pm

That done, Ichiro should steal. They almost CAN’T throw and we need to win with ONE hit not multiple.

  278. King.Dome on April 11th, 2011 10:51 pm

Ichiro! should steal 2nd on 1st pitch (too late for that)

  279. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:52 pm

Ump is cold. He wants to go home.

  280. Kazinski on April 11th, 2011 10:52 pm

I can’t believe Saunders wasn’t going on contact.

  281. jordan on April 11th, 2011 10:53 pm

    That takes a good eye.

  282. sniper61 on April 11th, 2011 10:55 pm

I’m going to have a stroke if he fouls this one more time.

  283. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 10:56 pm

    DAMNIT!!!!

  284. jordan on April 11th, 2011 10:56 pm

    I almost got excited

  285. jase411 on April 11th, 2011 10:56 pm

  297. lalo on April 11th, 2011 10:59 pm

What a great game! L-Rod just win a spot in our great lineup!!!

  298. juneau_fan on April 11th, 2011 10:59 pm

Now let’s imagine that Figgins was up there.

  299. VinnyInVan on April 11th, 2011 10:59 pm

Unbelievable. All the season’s angst washed away in 2 innings. Could this be the turning point!!! We have found the secret sauce, and it’s walks!

  300. CarpCarter on April 11th, 2011 11:00 pm

WHY CAN’T WE CURSE ON THIS SITE I NEED TO ACCURATELY EXPRESS MY EMOTIONS WHAT A FREAKIN AT BAT OH MY GOD I’M GONNA PASS OUT

    Let’s not and enjoy this

  303. ppl on April 11th, 2011 11:01 pm

Take that trolls (on other threads) with your silly 120 loss season and the M’s have the worst offense ever nonsense. We won this one didn’t we?

  304. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 11:02 pm

… and from our special misery came great joy.

  305. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2011 11:02 pm

It took Fangraphs awhile to finish the game graph. I think it broke the machine, but the final graph is awesome.

  306. dsmiley on April 11th, 2011 11:03 pm

Possible headline #1: Mariners lose eighth in a–zOMG!

Possible headline #2: Mariners win despite Olivo defection

Possible headline #3: Blue Jays fall to Toronto’s bullpen

Possible headline #4: Felix happy, still murders rest of team

  307. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 11:05 pm

    @ dsmiley
that list was awesome. I couldn’t stop laughing harder for each one

  308. dsmiley on April 11th, 2011 11:07 pm

I’ll always be a USSMariner blog fan first…but I’m DYING to see LL’s game headline.

  309. msfanmike on April 11th, 2011 11:08 pm

Possible headline #5: Rory McElroy relieved by Blue Jays bullpen performance

  310. nvn8vbryce on April 11th, 2011 11:10 pm

Possible headline 5: Donald Wakamatsu arrested for property destruction after destroying thousands of dollars worth of equipment in Safeco Field visitors’ clubhouse in retaliation for Mariners’ comeback win. He states that was temporary insanity over Wedge’s ability to eke out a win that he never accomplished during his brief Seattle tenure.

  311. Edgar4Hall on April 11th, 2011 11:11 pm

but I’m DYING to see LL’s game headline.

totally agree. I’m going to bed just so I can see it as soon as I wake up to make my morning that much better lol

  312. Westside guy on April 11th, 2011 11:24 pm

I can’t believe we actually won that game!
