Game 40, Twins At Mariners, For Real This Time

Pineda vs Baker, 7:10 pm.

The solution to rainouts? Change cities and play under a roof. We’ll actually have some baseball tonight after a couple of impromptu days off. Once again, Eric Wedge has said that he won’t use Brandon League as his closer tonight, wanting to give him a day off. The fact that everyone just had two is apparently not a factor. I’ll officially call that weird.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 3B
Smoak, 1B
Cust, DH
Olivo, C
Kennedy, 2B
Peguero, LF
Rodriguez, SS
Saunders, CF

Brendan Ryan didn’t look very fast there.

Smoak twisted his ankle during his last at bat.

In the Rainiers game, the opponent pitcher who received the “win” was New Orleans Zephyrs, Jose Ceda. ONLY IN BASEBALL, does a pitcher get a blown save, goes 1.0 IP, gives up 4 H, 5 Runs, 1 BB, and STILL is given credit for the win. I love this sport!

Those awful Kapersky ads make me want to take a bat to the television.

  5. CarpCarter on May 16th, 2011 9:31 pm

Ceda was getting lit up in the ninth. Unfortunately so was Lueke.

    Oh, Adam.

We might have a mass suicide in Seattle if the bullpen somehow gives this game away.

  8. sniper61 on May 16th, 2011 9:38 pm

    This is NOT happening

  9. sexymarinersfan on May 16th, 2011 9:38 pm

  13. Westside guy on May 16th, 2011 9:39 pm

I still think we should try to get that new Cardinals third baseman.

  14. OffensivelyChallenged on May 16th, 2011 9:39 pm

Come on super sinker end this game I can’t take this.

  15. Edgar4Hall on May 16th, 2011 9:39 pm

Goddamn you Figgins! EVen when you have a good game you find a way to screw it up! We hate you in seattle, just go away

  16. Shawnuel on May 16th, 2011 9:40 pm

    Figgins is a dingleberry.

  17. G-Man on May 16th, 2011 9:40 pm

Is this what is meant by a five-out save? Oh wait, it isn’t even a save – or is it a save if the fielders put the extra runners on, not the pitcher?

I still think we should try to get that new Cardinals third baseman.

I don’t even care how much we’d have to pay anymore or if he would hit slightly worse than usual, Pujols at third would be pure bliss after the train wreck that’s been Figgins.

As bad as Brandon League was on all of his blown saves… at least he didn’t blow a 5 run lead!

  20. sexymarinersfan on May 16th, 2011 9:41 pm

I really hope we get Anthony Rendon. Cause there aren’t any 3rd base free agent candidates coming around anytime soon.

  21. Edgar4Hall on May 16th, 2011 9:42 pm

Screw it, I’d take Punto from them for Figgins straight trade. God I didn’t think I could actually hate a baseball player

  22. OffensivelyChallenged on May 16th, 2011 9:42 pm

    Thank god.

  23. sexymarinersfan on May 16th, 2011 9:42 pm

    It’s not the bullpen’s fault
And thank God we have Brendan Ryan who actually knows how to field!

  25. Westside guy on May 16th, 2011 9:43 pm

    Thank you, Brendan Ryan!

I could see Peguero doing commercials for Eagle hardware.

  27. Edgar4Hall on May 16th, 2011 9:52 pm

Jesus that would be amazing! Can he make a bat light?

  28. msfanmike on May 16th, 2011 9:52 pm

Other than the Figgins Oozer stat balancing act, that game was sure a nice change of pace. The “Punisher” huh … I like it too.

  29. Edgar4Hall on May 16th, 2011 9:57 pm

haha that Heat jersey in Cleveland was a dirty move lol

And, since Carson hasn’t been doing it lately…

Here’s today’s game thread word cloud!

  31. Ibuprofen on May 16th, 2011 10:41 pm

It took me a good minute to find my name. Hidden in plain sight *facepalm*

  32. Westside guy on May 16th, 2011 11:18 pm

    Hehe, Ibuprofen.

I like this from the Seattle mariners homepage article about Felix taking BP.

“I tried to hit a homer every time,” he said with a smile. “Every single time. Oh yeah. Have to.”
