Fister vs Blackburn, 5:10 pm.

Don’t have time for anything more pithy than “Go M’s” today.

Here’s hoping Fister’s new cutter works on Thome. #notoptimistic

I vote that the use of pseudo-Twitter hashtags in discussion comments should result in a 15-day suspension. :-D

I’m just glad the M’s are entertaining this year, gives me something to look forward to most days. Last year they were just painful to watch.

  5. mlathrop3 on May 24th, 2011 3:45 pm

Cust still in the 4-hole! Pathetic! He hasn’t done anything in… oh, wait.

    Fist’em!

  6. Chipanese on May 24th, 2011 3:47 pm

These game threads are getting shorter and shorter.

  7. Westside guy on May 24th, 2011 4:02 pm

Don’t worry, mlathrop3 – Olivo and his .228/.292/.316 line are in the #5 hole. He’ll protect Cust.

  8. Breadbaker on May 24th, 2011 4:24 pm

Kenney? I looked it up in Baseball Reference and there have been only three guys named Kenney in major league history. I hope it’s not this guy; he’s been dead awhile.

  9. Route 21 on May 24th, 2011 4:24 pm

Thome. In how many decades will he beat us? Can he just retire already?

  10. Chris_From_Bothell on May 24th, 2011 4:54 pm

That lineup is too much Figgins and not enough Guti. But the last couple weeks, and last night’s game, make me think anything is possible. The lineup doesn’t feel like automatic surrender anymore. Go Ms go.

  11. Chris_From_Bothell on May 24th, 2011 5:13 pm

I wonder how much the good road trip will get people out to the park this weekend. Would be nice to see a series with the Yankees that doesn’t turn Safeco into Yankee Stadium West.

  12. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 5:22 pm

    Tolbert has butterfingers.

  13. jordan on May 24th, 2011 5:28 pm

    Cust! Man is on fire.

  14. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 5:32 pm

    Oh dammit Cust.

  15. jordan on May 24th, 2011 5:32 pm

    Wow

  16. MariLOLs on May 24th, 2011 5:33 pm

Handsome Jack is channeling good ol’ Jose Lopez.

  17. wabbles on May 24th, 2011 5:36 pm

I’m multitasking did Cust just get thrown out due to bad baserunning?

  18. Westside guy on May 24th, 2011 5:43 pm

Listening to Ken Levine, it always sounds like you probably missed 3-4 plays during the time he took to describe one pitch.

  19. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 5:45 pm

Saunders needs to be sent down, he’s doing nothing up here. The defense is hardly enough at this point.

  20. jordan on May 24th, 2011 5:46 pm

    Yes, Cust screwed up.

Also, is Saunders pretty much a bust?

  21. jordan on May 24th, 2011 5:50 pm

Were falling apart… two huge mistakes already.

  22. Westside guy on May 24th, 2011 5:51 pm

    “Adventure Time” strikes once again…

Peguero is horrible out there in left.

  23. Arron on May 24th, 2011 5:56 pm

We REALLY need to get a competent LF. CP can’t field and Saunders can’t hit. If Seattle is going to contend this year OR NEXT, that is our #1 need. Cust, Olivo, and Figgins aren’t doing too much better, but we must address LF first. I’m not down for a rental if we give up top prospects, but I am praying for Z to make a couple moves sooner than later…

  24. Snarf15 on May 24th, 2011 6:01 pm

Nice Figgins, another tapper to the pitcher. If only I had a nickel for everytime that has happened this year. Nice hit Smoak!

  25. Westside guy on May 24th, 2011 6:03 pm

    MIGGY!!

  26. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 6:04 pm

Confirmed: Olivo in clean up spot for a week.

  27. msfanmike on May 24th, 2011 6:04 pm

    Good protection!

  28. lalo on May 24th, 2011 6:04 pm

    Olivo!!

  29. msfanmike on May 24th, 2011 6:05 pm

    Nice play by Kubel! Damn.

  30. Arron on May 24th, 2011 6:06 pm

How about Kubel in LF? The Twins are going to be sellers really soon…what would it take to get him?

  31. wabbles on May 24th, 2011 6:06 pm

One of the authors here deconstructed and debunked the whole concept of “protection” of one batter by another.

  32. lalo on May 24th, 2011 6:07 pm

I like his bat, but at defense he´s ´probably worse than Peguero…

  33. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:09 pm

The Twins are probably going to trade Kubel if they don’t get it turned around fast. But they will be getting a lot for him, and the last thing we need to be doing is trading decent prospects.

  34. lalo on May 24th, 2011 6:12 pm

Do you think Peguero, Kelley and Lueke would be enough?

  35. stevemotivateir on May 24th, 2011 6:13 pm

Why is Figgins still starting? Really don’t think it can hurt to try Kennedy at 3rd -or even Wilson. Having Figgins and Saunders at the plate in the same game is really tough to watch.

  36. wabbles on May 24th, 2011 6:14 pm

Brendan Ryan reaches base again! I thought the world wasn’t supposed to end until Oct. 21?

  37. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:17 pm
  38. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 6:21 pm

Peguero, Kelley, and Lueke would be overpaying for Kubel. Jason isn’t really consistent and he has problems against LHPs. Plus his defense is historically bad, even with that nice catch tonight. Think ‘Raul Ibanez with two hurt legs’ when thinking of Kubel’s defensive prowess.

  39. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:24 pm

And that really depends on what you think of Pegeuro. He really is one of those guys some people will think is a absolute stud, and some think he will be very unsuccessful. Me personally, I think Peg is going to be pretty good, so I wouldn’t make that deal.

  40. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 6:38 pm

Jason Kubel has posted 1.0 WAR, or more, only twice in his career; this season, and 2009.

  41. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:42 pm

    Olivo owns Blackburn

  42. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 6:44 pm

Hit him harder next time Olivo.

  43. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 6:45 pm

Yeah I can’t believe Olivo has two hits against a righty–but two XBHs is just icing.

    Damn you Rene, damn you!

  44. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:45 pm

    Now that’s baseball.

    I’m not even disappointed

  45. lalo on May 24th, 2011 6:47 pm

    Come on Condor!!!

  46. Refuse2Lose on May 24th, 2011 6:50 pm

Saunders is so frustrating….there isn’t even any hope anymore with him up.

  47. mlathrop3 on May 24th, 2011 6:51 pm

Send Saunders down already. This can’t be good for the psyche.

  48. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 6:53 pm

I feel terrible for Fister. He pitches pretty dang well every game and he gets nothing for it. I will not be shocked when he gets a no decision from this game.

  49. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:56 pm

Ichiro with a good dink play there. I think casilla though it was cought and slowed up

  50. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 6:56 pm

    A balk? Really?

  51. greentunic on May 24th, 2011 6:57 pm

Send Saunders down already. This can’t be good for the psyche.

Ya, he’s not showing real promise. He has a poor eye (yes, he takes a lot, but he has a poor eye), his swing is loopy and awkward, he strikes out all the dang time.

If only he could be a designated defender.

  52. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:57 pm

    BULL SHIT CALL.

  53. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 6:57 pm

    A balk?!?!

  54. greentunic on May 24th, 2011 6:58 pm

Jesus… (sorry to whomever it offends)

  55. jordan on May 24th, 2011 6:58 pm

And this game is getting bad.

  56. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 6:59 pm

Wow Figgins. Way to move towards that throw. Great show of effort right there. ffs.

  57. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 7:01 pm

Goddamn umps have conspired to fuck the Mariners this inning.

  58. MarinerFanMike03 on May 24th, 2011 7:01 pm

Well we were bound for one implosion of a game.

  59. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 7:03 pm

I also think Figgins half-assed that relay.

  60. Refuse2Lose on May 24th, 2011 7:04 pm

As long as Laffey can get us out of this inning I think our pathetic offense can muster something off the even more pathetic Twins bullpen.

  61. spankystout on May 24th, 2011 7:05 pm

Peguero’s arm looks pretty good out there. His flyball routes are another story.

  62. mlathrop3 on May 24th, 2011 7:09 pm

    Textbook figi

  63. texasmarinerfan on May 24th, 2011 7:09 pm

    What’s wrong with Ichiro??

  64. msfanmike on May 24th, 2011 7:10 pm

Figgins has definitely earned some time off. I hope they give it to him.

  65. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 7:11 pm

I absolutely refuse to believe that calling up Liddi would result in anything worse than our third base situation right now. Figgins is awful. 2 for 23, how is that not an indication of needed bench time?

  66. Mid80sRighty on May 24th, 2011 7:14 pm

2-23 isn’t inherently bad. Now the fact that Figgy could probably hit me in the back of the head with a bat and I wouldn’t do anything other than rub it is bad. That is, if he even made contact…

  67. jordan on May 24th, 2011 7:21 pm

We are going to need someone to clutch up big time. Could it be Peguero again?

  68. jordan on May 24th, 2011 7:23 pm

Gray looked good. And by good, I mean better than Ray.

  69. Ibuprofen on May 24th, 2011 7:29 pm

Today I learned our winning streak capacity is six games.

  70. mlathrop3 on May 24th, 2011 7:30 pm

    Thats it. Season over.

  71. KiWiNiNjA on May 24th, 2011 7:46 pm

Gray looked good. And by good, I mean better than Ray.

So the G makes all the difference?

  72. Westside guy on May 24th, 2011 8:17 pm

Peguero’s arm looks pretty good out there. His flyball routes are another story.

His arm is strong – but unfortunately one can never tell exactly which direction the throw will end up traveling.

  73. greentunic on May 24th, 2011 8:59 pm

We have to do something about Figgins and Saunders. Figgins needs to be moved to 9th and Wedge needs to teach Figgins that nothing is guaranteed to poor performing players (except their pay of course…)

Wedge can do it. He has balls and he has a leadership presence. No one is above the manager’s decision.
