Game 75, Mariners At Nationals

Pineda vs Marquis, 10:05 am.

The M’s east coast trip comes to an end this morning as they play a getaway game and then head back to Seattle immediately afterwards. They’ll throw Michael Pineda in an attempt to avoid getting swept by the Nationals, and after another lousy offensive performance, Eric Wedge is changing up the line-up again. And this time, it’s in a good way.

Yes, it’s taken all of five games for Dustin Ackley to be placed in the line-up spot that his skillset is perfect for – the #2 spot. He’s hitting behind Ichiro in the first of what is hopefully many more line-ups that begin this way. If you don’t have a lot of great hitters (and the Mariners don’t), at least you can bunch your best hitters together and try to get them to string their hits together. By moving Ackley up to the #2 spot, the M’s might actually have the chance of sparking a rally or two.

Ichiro, RF
Ackley, 2B
Kennedy, 3B
Smoak, 1B
Olivo, C
Carp, LF
Gutierrez, CF
Wilson, SS
Pineda, P

I liked Riggleman when he was here.

On the bright side, our worries about who would take over closer when League possibly got injured after the first game, were moot.

    And how awesome is Pineda.

Our backs to the wall in this series (and after psychologically terrible losses), the rookie didn’t give up a run.

Pineda gave us every chance to win, the guy is as tough as nails and fearless.

And Bedard yesterday also gave a fine effort. Recently I personally feel more confident of a win when Bedard and Pineda take the mound over even Felix (the reigning Cy Young winner, who is also great). What an awesome pitching staff.

Hell, throw Vargas in that mix as well, he has had a few brilliant starts this year.

Unless the M’s completely fall apart now, there’s no way I want Bedard to get traded.

How much would it take for the M’s to sign Pujols?

The cost of Bradley and Figgins salaries combined lol

I am SO glad they changed that lousy lineup from yesterday, and finally got a decent idea of how to run a ballclub, it’s about damned time…

Oh, wait? Nothing? Not a single run? You mean WORSE than yesterday? Really/

    But…?!?

    Nevermind.

(not trying to diss on anybody, just shaking my head at what a fickle game baseball can be… I liked today’s lineup as much as anybody else did… no luck, today, I guess)

I liked the lineup. It’s what the lineup was MADE OF that bothered me.

So, guys, we need offense. And I know signing old players is generally frowned upon but… Jim Thome is pretty cheap and still hits the ball for miles. Do you think we’d be able to possibly buy low on him?

The Twins aren’t moving anyone right now. They’ve been on a hot streak…but they just lost two in a row and if they don’t snap back to winning their guys might be available again.
