    Lineup courtesy of Greg Johns:

    Ichiro RF
    Ryan SS
    Ackley 2B
    Carp DH
    Kennedy 3B
    Olivo C
    Smoak 1B
    Wells LF
    Guti CF

But… that has to be a typo or something. Olivo in the #6org hole?

  2. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 6:42 pm

Figgins to DL, Seager called up.

  3. Breadbaker on August 2nd, 2011 7:06 pm

You know, this lineup actually doesn’t make me want to puke.

    Woo woo!

  5. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 7:19 pm

I don’t suppose the M’s get to collect any insurance on Figgins.

  6. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 7:23 pm

    What the heck was that?

  7. Swungonandbelted on August 2nd, 2011 7:23 pm

A’s were asleep at the wheel for that one…

  8. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 7:23 pm

Oakland looked crappy in the field last night, and they looked like they were sound asleep there.

  9. Breadbaker on August 2nd, 2011 7:24 pm

That’s the kind of thing that gets managers fired. Of course, the A’s already did that this year once.

  10. KiWiNiNjA on August 2nd, 2011 7:25 pm

    Infield triple!

  11. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 7:25 pm

They are saying that is an infield single and a fielder’s choice. But that is a play where there really isn’t a good way to score it.

  12. KiWiNiNjA on August 2nd, 2011 7:26 pm

Carp making the Peguero Experiment look even more ridiculous.

  13. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 7:26 pm

Another weak spot on the A’s, hit the ball over Matsui.

For Carp, that would have been a homerun in most parks, in Safeco it was a double.

  14. Breadbaker on August 2nd, 2011 7:28 pm

Good of Ackley to realize that Matsui is like the Statue of Liberty in leftfield. He’s not tracking anything down and he’s not getting to anything.

Game 109 actually – no game thread yesterday…

What an interesting game so far.

“Ichiro” just got escorted for interfering with a ball in right field.

That’s so going to make Baseball Tonight. And it won’t be for any of the Mariners play.

  18. Paul B on August 2nd, 2011 8:07 pm

I think Ryan’s baserunning adventure makes a better Baseball Tonight story than the dude the leaned over and grabbed the fair ball. But he might have gotten air time because when the guy next to him started yelling at him, he realized what he had done and just put his head down on his arms.

  19. Breadbaker on August 2nd, 2011 8:14 pm

I love the shot of the guy in the Ackley shirt screaming at the guy in the Ichiro uniform.

  20. Westside guy on August 2nd, 2011 8:19 pm

Haven’t those guys figured out that awful “Olivo” chant doesn’t work?

  21. bloody_yankees on August 2nd, 2011 8:55 pm

According to Churchill, the M’s have settled on Chance Ruffin as the PTBNL in the Fister/Pauley trade. Anybody have any insight as to Ruffin’s potential and his role with the club?

  22. juneau_fan on August 2nd, 2011 8:55 pm

    Apparently not, since it’s back.

A fabulous name? I was just thinking earlier how much I’m going to enjoy hearing Casper Wells announced.

  24. juneau_fan on August 2nd, 2011 9:05 pm

    Nice, Casper!

  25. Edgar4Hall on August 2nd, 2011 9:07 pm

    Casper the friendly outfielder!

  26. NateTheGreat on August 2nd, 2011 9:08 pm

Man thats surprising they went for a reliever rather than what sounds like a chance at a real quality starting pitcher or catcher.
Z must feel he needs to get his club a reliever for next year I guess because those other two players hold a lot more value you would think.

Chance Ruffin really came on strong in his junior year at Texas. IMO the favorite to close for the M’s next year if League gets dealt in the winter.

  29. Auggeydog on August 2nd, 2011 9:23 pm

Does anyone know the names of the other two guys on the list? Was there a C or a starting pitcher?

  30. King.Dome on August 2nd, 2011 9:30 pm

Where have I been? Jeff Gray?

  31. Sports on a Schtick on August 2nd, 2011 9:47 pm

Whew! Gray puts out the fire that he started!

  32. G-Man on August 2nd, 2011 9:51 pm

    Something wrong with Smoak??

  33. Carson on August 2nd, 2011 9:51 pm

    Uhhh. No. Please no.

  34. G-Man on August 2nd, 2011 9:53 pm

So Seagar played for the Rainiers this morning. I’ve never heard of this one, though I’m sure it’s happened before.

  35. wabbles on August 2nd, 2011 9:56 pm

“I don’t suppose the M’s get to collect any insurance on Figgins.”
“Take out an extremely large accident insurance policy on Figgins.”
    “Why Jack?”
    “Because things happen. Accidents happen.”
    “Gotcha boss.”

  36. Sports on a Schtick on August 2nd, 2011 9:57 pm

Yea, either Smoak got dinged up in the dugout or that was a vote of no confidence.

EDIT: Smoak hurt his thumb trying to barehand a ball on defense.

  37. G-Man on August 2nd, 2011 10:00 pm

This Seagar move reminds me of one of the changes that’s evolved in minor league affiliations. These days, a MLB’s team AAA club is almost always fairly nearby, which facilitates player moves like this. Years ago, they were usually much further away. The M’s used to have the Calgary Cannons at their AAA team. Try to get a guy from their to Seattle quickly. Other orgs had distance challenges, too.

The Mariners and the Red Sox have the best arrangements now, I believe. Less than an hour’s drive apart.

  38. Carson on August 2nd, 2011 10:05 pm

What a damn weird game. I sure picked a good day to make my debut doing recaps on SodoMojo.

  39. Jim_H on August 2nd, 2011 11:29 pm

Seeing the young guys (Ackley, Carp, Wells in this case) succeed makes me giddy. Definitely worth the price of admission.

And I just heard on the postgame show that smoak’s thumb is bruised (xrays negative), and that he is day to day. He wasn’t ‘barehanding’ a ball. A ball took a bad hop and hit him in the thumb.

I was at the game and almost ran into that dude who looked like Ichiro.

Dude was eerie in resemblance, he even was about the same height and build and had some similar facial characteristics.

This was my third game this year, and had two of the most bizarre happenings in it.

Kudos to Brendan Ryan for some heads-up baserunning. That was awesome.

Only bad thing about tonight was being stuck behind some 21-ish Oakland fans who were loud, obnoxious and apparently couldn’t grasp the concept their team isn’t that good, either. I’ll count my blessings, though. I could’ve been next to that one annoying woman “from Boston”.

That twit gets some fans practically homicidal.
