Hello and welcome to the first in what I guess now qualifies as a series of JEFF FRANCIS WATCHes. Our first JEFF FRANCIS WATCH is today, because PRINCE FIELDER isn’t the only free agent alive. We are writing this because Sullivan is keeping everyone abreast of the PRINCE FIELDER landscape, but no one is keeping an eye on JEFF FRANCIS’ backyard.

Has JEFF FRANCIS signed a contract?

Has JEFF FRANCIS signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners?

Is JEFF FRANCIS close to signing a contract?
I completely and honestly have no idea.

What does your gut tell you?
I think the Mariners are going to sign JEFF FRANCIS, because he’s left-handed, from British Columbia, and they watched CHARLIE FURBUSH try to get right-handers out last year.

What is the latest?
There is no latest. JEFF FRANCIS doesn’t have a windbag for an agent, so he’s not really in the news much.

Are the Mariners still in the thick of things?
It’s JEFF FRANCIS – it’s more of a wispy field of grass than any kind of thicket.

Haha, “thick of things.”
Jeff Francis is pretty skinny, actually.

    Hahaha. Just great.

Maybe we should sign him and then try converting him to first base.

JEFF FRANCIS — a man whose capitalized name is more exciting than watching him pitch!

Great stuff, Dave. Keep up in the J.F. loop!

We have the two best team blogs in sports. Too bad that can’t help the M’s make the playoffs…

I think this offseason will actually crush my soul.

  9. SethGrandpa on December 27th, 2011 11:37 pm

Dave – If we did sign JEFF FRANCIS I would now be very disappointed if you ever typed his name in anything but all caps.

If the Mariners can’t sign PRINCE FIELDER, they need to take that 8-year, $200 million offer straight to JEFF FRANCIS to show us fans how committed they are to winning.

Spend, Jack, spend! It’s the only way!

Wheres the HANLEY RAMIREZ WATCH? How about the SETH SMITH WATCH? Or even the BRANDON LEAGUE WATCH? I’d be especially pleased with a CHONE FIGGINS WATCH!!!1!

Seattle Mariners: “Now taking Royals rejects!”

JK of course. If JZ wants JF, then I’m JK.

I was linked here from Lookout Landing and when I clicked Dave’s link I thought I had been taken back to the same article Jeff put up.

    My mind was almost blown

Dave with an uncharacteristic bout of whimsy? I’ve always enjoyed following you and Jeff on Twitter, Dave, because of your interactions. Don’t know what you’re supposed to do with that information. Meanwhile, I agree with SethGrandpa and believe you should always say JEFF FRANCIS.

To paraphrase Geoff Baker, the M’s need to “man up” and “show a commitment to winning” by signing Jeff Francis!

  15. terry on December 28th, 2011 5:33 am

Please no masturbakertion in this thread, a thread that is awesomesque in its USSMism.

  16. ripperlv on December 28th, 2011 8:01 am

Well actually the reason the M’s are going to sign Francis is too seal the deal with the Marlins. Francis, Seager, Figgins (and cash) and Gutt. for Hanley Ramirez.

  17. msb on December 28th, 2011 8:07 am

I am now envisioning Jeff Francis on the mound, swaying gently in the wind.

  18. Mariners35 on December 28th, 2011 8:20 am

What, are the Cubs and Nationals also in on Francis now?

  19. make_dave_proud on December 28th, 2011 9:50 am

Imagine if the M’s, because of this thread, started capitalizing all the players’ names on their jerseys!

Heck, maybe even Major League Baseball would consider it across the board.

  20. tetrad on December 28th, 2011 1:55 pm

Would you please also start a Jamie Moyer watch?

  21. stevemotivateir on December 28th, 2011 3:30 pm

So if we sign Fielder, would Francis be more likely to wanna sign here? (kidding)

  22. MrZDevotee on December 28th, 2011 11:16 pm

Quite the contrary… Signing JEFF FRANCIS is the key to turning the Fielder market our way, finally. Done deal. Who doesn’t want to play on a team with Jeff Francis? (Slowly, awkwardly putting my own arm down)…
