Game 41, Mariners at Rockies

Millwood vs White, 5:40 pm.

The M’s go DH-less for three days in a National League park, and to start the series, Jesus Montero is the guy losing out on playing time, as John Jaso gets the start against a right-hander. He’s certainly played well enough to deserve more playing time, and Montero isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire this year. I’d imagine you’ll see Montero back in there tomorrow.

Also, to protest the constant focus on batting order, I present today’s position players in alphabetical order. They’ll all bat a few times, except maybe Millwood, who is probably pitching for his job the next few times out.

Dustin Ackley, 2B
Mike Carp, LF
John Jaso, C
Kevin Millwood, SP
Brendan Ryan, SS
Michael Saunders, CF
Kyle Seager, 3B
Justin Smoak, 1B
Ichiro Suzuki, RF

haha, I don’t know if I’d say it works, but he certainly tries!

What’s more annoying… Seeing a called 3rd strike in a situation like that, or a swinging strike-out on a terrible pitch?

  3. stevemotivateir on May 18th, 2012 7:49 pm

Well, Ackley’s hitting streak appears to be over.

Looks like League is going to get an easy save in a few.

  5. Paul B on May 18th, 2012 7:57 pm

I hear Rob Johnson is pitching tonight.

That must be a good game.

    Seager triple!

  7. stevemotivateir on May 18th, 2012 7:59 pm

I step out to feed the cats and I return to see Seager on 3rd. Did he hit a triple?

  8. Slats on May 18th, 2012 7:59 pm

    Wow Smoak – wtf?

  9. Mid80sRighty on May 18th, 2012 7:59 pm

    Nothing is easy with League…

Should have refreshed the page before asking that 😛

    Seager hit a triple.

Selfish Seager – trying to ruin Brandon League’s night…

  13. Westside guy on May 18th, 2012 8:01 pm

Wait – RoJo is pitching somewhere??? hahahahaha…

  14. stevemotivateir on May 18th, 2012 8:02 pm

    Jaso!!

  15. Paul B on May 18th, 2012 8:06 pm

Yeah. I just looked it up. The Mets starter gave up 4 homers in 3 inning. The first reliever gave up another.

Rob actually pitched an inning, no hits and a strikeout.

  16. Westside guy on May 18th, 2012 8:10 pm

    Nice play be Seager there.

  17. Paul B on May 18th, 2012 8:11 pm

Some fans started booing the hit by pitch, then they sort of realized, oh, wait, and started cheering.

9th inning and Kevin’s diving after a ball like a center fielder!

  19. Westside guy on May 18th, 2012 8:11 pm

    Good for Rojo, Paul.

  20. Paul B on May 18th, 2012 8:14 pm

I bet the guy Rob struck out is getting razzed.

A complete game shutout in Coors Field is a hell of an effort

  22. Slats on May 18th, 2012 8:15 pm

    Well done Millwood!

  23. Paul B on May 18th, 2012 8:15 pm

    Nice game for Millwood.

  24. stevemotivateir on May 18th, 2012 8:15 pm

Game! Who would have thought, that Millwood would come into Colorado, and pitch a 2-hit shut-out?!

  25. Westside guy on May 18th, 2012 8:17 pm

I didn’t see most of it, but yeah – good job by Millwood.

I like seeing that Jaso was the one behind the plate during this pitching gem. Reason #436 why Olivo’s D and “game calling” or whatever is completely overrated.

Also, Jaso is the ONE guy who CONSISTENTLY seems to have a clue w/ a runner at 3rd & less than two outs.

  27. just a fan on May 18th, 2012 10:08 pm

I agree, IdahoInvader. Olivo’s D is overrated. Jaso deserves credit for this two-hit shutout, perhaps even more than Millwood. What a gem he caught tonight!

  28. IdahoInvader on May 18th, 2012 10:44 pm

Millwood was unbelievably on his game w/ his location. I’d never take away any credit from Millwood, even if it would benefit Jaso. But its a reminder that Olivo’s contributions are pretty much fantasized by Wedge.
