Game 59 – Mariners at Angels
Hector Noesi vs. Jerome Williams, 7:05pm
To cleanse our collective palate after last night’s drubbing of an M’s flyballing righty, the M’s send up Hector Noesi toAwwww C’mon, M’s.
1: Ichiro (RF)
2: Ackley (2B)
3: Seager (3B)
4: Montero (DH)
5: Smoak (1B)
6: Saunders (CF)
7: Olivo (C)
8: Carp (LF)
9: Ryan (SS)
SP: Hector Noesi
Link of the day? Shannon Drayer’s piece on Felix finally watching himself on video. Sounds like it was sort of a Malkovich-in-his-own-portal thing – disorienting, troubling, harmful to self-confidence. But at least Felix is trying new things, and let’s hope he’s able to correct some of the faults he identified in his next start, which sounds like it’ll be this weekend.

I don’t understand Wedge’s thought process, obviously (Liddi in left?) – but Carp hasn’t really made a case this year for playing every day. If he doesn’t pick it up soon, I would think we’ll see Saunders-Guti-Ichiro most of the time once Guti is back.
We’d have to see those 3 get most of the time, unless Wedge has his favorite toy syndrome (e.g., Liddi, Peguero, Olivo).
If Gutierrez stays healthy, and his bat shows up, we’ll have a great outfield.
Mike called it.
^ no doubt … In regard to your outfield of the near future projection
Tom Wilhelmensensnensen.
I think I’ll stick with “bartender”.
I worry that Paul is right, though, with regards to what passes as Wedge’s thought process.
I would be really happy if Guti came back healthy and hittin’ well. I just don’t think that’s likely. Not this year anyway.
Getting late for you, Westy?
Nah, just getting old.
That’s fine… let’s make that a wasted double!
Ladies and gents, I give you Miguel Olivo….again.
Ichiro’s homer may be very important…
That was an amazing piece of hitting. I love Albert. I hate Morales, though. Cuz I have to.
Atta boy Miggy. I knew you had it in you. I have really missed your work behind the dish.
You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. (This is what we call “not adding to the conversation”.)
YES!!
Tommy can you hear me?!!
Despite Olivo, we win. Wow…hard to believe.
Yes!!!!!!!!
Trade league trade league trade league
Mike, totally agree with you re: Pujols.
I just wish his hits didn’t seem to hurt us so often. Hits like his last one are better.
Maybe a package deal, League, and his personal catcher Olivo????
^^ Hey and we can throw in a bonus Figgy for free!
I hope other teams management read this…League/Olivo/Figgins. Nice package we might be able to get a decent player for that!
Nice road trip
If other teams management is reading this thread, and applying any value to it whatsoever, they will be unemployed, soon.
Mike, most of our complaints are backed by actual facts and verifiable data….it’s gotta have some value?
I’ll bet the M’s follow this blog closely. I’d imagine other teams wouldn’t but since this is a more evidence-developed blog, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised.
Not all smart baseball people work for an MLB team.
The M’s have played 22 games and home so far, and 37 on the road, it will be interesting to see what happens when the catch up on their home games. Will their runs scored go back down to their comfort zone? Or will they win a few more games at home and inch their way back to respectability.
Wedge is really dragging this team down.
Beavan and Noesi are pitching pretty badly (and deservedly so, i.e. not really much bad luck involved for those two). That’s 40% of the starting rotation.
Wedge, please get over the ill-conceived dislike, the preconceived bad notions, or whatever the heck your freaking problem is.
Free Iwakuma.
And, at the receiving end – Wedge is choosing to have Olivo catch most of the time rather than Jaso. That means he’s giving up 210 points of OPS from the catcher position, every frigging game – and it’s not like Olivo is making up for that with his “stellar” defense…
We could just have one gaping hole on offense; but Wedge is choosing to include a second one.
OK, I got the high single-digit runs I asked for, and we got the W! Very nice come from behind win. This teams is starting to show some intestinal fortitude. Now we need to bring the momentum home and win a few series. Be nice to start with this weekend…
I was referring (specifically) to the notion of other “teams management reading this” and becoming interested in the “nice package” deal of Figgins/Olivo/League.
Of course the blog has value, but no “other teams management” is going to be fooled into believing the triumvirate of terrible would be a good trade opportunity. If they read the blog (and understand the analysis and stats used), they would conclude the opposite, correct?
I suppose a fake blog could be created which would pump up the triumvirates virtues instead of pointing out their glaring weaknesses, but I believe the team already has a website.
