Game 114, Mariners at Angels

King Felix vs. Ervin Santana, 7:05pm

The M’s start Felix, and the Angels start their most frustrating, least effective pitcher of 2012. I know that the M’s were just swept in Baltimore by the likes of Zach Britton and Steve Johnson, but this is a winnable game. So go win it, M’s.

1: Ackley
2: Saunders
3: Montero (DH)
4: Jaso (C)
5: Seager
6: Carp
7: Wells
8: Thames
9: Ryan
SP: El Rey

The batter didn’t go to 2nd… You wanted Carp to just leave him alone on 1st base?

It was an unfortunate play and if Ryan fields it cleanly he probably throws out Aybar. But I wouldn’t put much blame on Carp in this situation

  2. vetted_coach on August 10th, 2012 9:16 pm

Of course the batter went to second. If Thames doesn’t catch the ball, it’s a triple. Ryan was busting his rear to cover for Carp. That’s why he had a hard time fielding the throw. If the batter stops st first, he belongs in single-A ball.

Trust me. Carp was out of position.

While you are arguing over a valid and important point, but what you’ve forgotten is that the M’s suck shit, and watching them is like watching the Washington Generals play.

I’m sure we’ve got an exciting off-season of signing lots of middle relievers and #5 starters.

Seattle Mariners Baseball: Seriously, we gotta do this shit again?

(Sorry, a shitty Felix night really gets to me. I could see this losing streak going to 9 games easily.)

I love baseball players with facial hair, I got a beard, I would let it grow like a Grizzly Adams if I had an awesome job; I’m not sure Kinney’s stache constitutes as facial hair. That thing looks terrible! No worse than Ryno’s though I suppose.

Or in the middle of the M’s line up?

  6. californiamariner on August 10th, 2012 9:20 pm

The batter did not run to 2nd man…. Unless he ran right by the runner on 1st base?

  7. henryv on August 10th, 2012 9:27 pm

Nice at bat, Thames. Next time try making contact.

  8. vetted_coach on August 10th, 2012 9:29 pm

The runner on first was half way up the baseline toward 2B like he’s supposed to be. If the ball drops, both guys run like hell. If it’s caught, the batter gets off the field and the othrr guy slides back toward 1B, then sprints to get back and tag. That’s what happened. I promise you.

I’m done explaining it. I know what happened.

  9. henryv on August 10th, 2012 9:31 pm

Raul Ibanez would be proud of that horrific defense.

  10. msfanmike on August 10th, 2012 9:33 pm

    Kinney just balked.

  11. tylerv on August 10th, 2012 9:37 pm

why the f is kinney still in there?

  12. Mahoney5500 on August 10th, 2012 9:38 pm

You are wrong on this one coach, ianetta is tagging up the whole way, i even rewound it

  13. tylerv on August 10th, 2012 9:38 pm

wedge has to take a dump or something he just wants the game to be over quick

  14. henryv on August 10th, 2012 9:39 pm

    You gotta hate these guys.

  15. Westside guy on August 10th, 2012 9:39 pm

Well, that ended with a whimper.

  16. tylerv on August 10th, 2012 9:40 pm

    NO SHIT

we all knew this one was going to end in a humiliating way once trout got them back in it.

  17. californiamariner on August 10th, 2012 9:40 pm

    Wow

  18. henryv on August 10th, 2012 9:40 pm

    Loser idiots. Fucking loser idiots.

  19. msfanmike on August 10th, 2012 9:41 pm

    A new way was found.

Didn’t think these ass clowns had a new technique in their back pocket. Wrong again

  20. taylor.mariner on August 10th, 2012 9:41 pm

Send Kinney down tonight! Tonight! TONIGHT!

  21. nvn8vbryce on August 10th, 2012 9:43 pm

I think Wedge needs to do this.

  22. Westside guy on August 10th, 2012 9:43 pm

Yeah, that replay was pretty definitive.

  23. californiamariner on August 10th, 2012 9:45 pm

Does anyone remember Pryor and Capps being called up? Seems like Wedge doesn’t! Maybe its just me

  24. henryv on August 10th, 2012 9:45 pm

If you send Kinney down, you’re just calling up another loser from this organization. The Rainiers aren’t much to watch, either.

There really isn’t much down there, and with the “big 3” slowly becoming the “maybe 2” I’d be surprised to see much of the organization left by the end of 2013.

  25. Westside guy on August 10th, 2012 9:45 pm

I think “T” stands for Trout rather than Trumbo.

  26. Westside guy on August 10th, 2012 9:46 pm

I think that was a dream sequence, californiamariner.

  27. vetted_coach on August 10th, 2012 9:46 pm

Regardless of what Ianetta was doing, it’s still Carp’s job to provide the cut to home from the right fielder. Why Ianetta would tag from 1B on a 385-foot fly to RF is a mystery. But it doesn’t change Carp’s job. It just makes it easier for him to be whete he’s supposed to be.

This is silly. I know what I’m talking about.

What a crappy game for the M’s to lose. They did not play very well.

  28. wilchiro on August 10th, 2012 9:48 pm

Why is Kinney still on this team? He has a 7 BB/9 and a 4 FIP. He’s an aging journeyman that has no place on this team. Horrible way to lose a game.

Just frustarated by this team right now. Thames isn’t good for much. He’s one of the worst defenders in baseball and he can only hit a fastball. Saunders made one of the worst baserunning mistakes I’ve ever seen. You can add Casper Wells to the sub-.700 OPS club.

Can the offseason come any sooner? I thought this team had something – until they actually had to play good teams.

  29. Mid80sRighty on August 10th, 2012 9:50 pm

I know it’s frustrating guys, but…. Fuck it, this team is horseshit. A few role players surrounded by underachievers.

And vetted keeps finding new ways to get under people’s skin, so…guess the comments haven’t changed much either.

  30. Mahoney5500 on August 10th, 2012 9:51 pm

I’ve never seen the 1b as the cut off to second or third and that is where the play was going. No one thought aybar was going from second to home so the play wasn’t to home. But as long as you are convinced, that’s all that matters

  31. msfanmike on August 10th, 2012 9:52 pm

The throw went to 2B. Carp was standing by 1B – as the cutoff for the throw home, but the throw did not go home. Your Carp needing to be the trailer story has taken a turn for the worm. Just say oops and stop making shit up.

  32. msfanmike on August 10th, 2012 10:06 pm

As Wedge just explained, the throw missed the cutoff man (Ackley) and Ryan went out to retrieve it and it got by him. No mention of Carp. No mistake by Carp.

Watch the play again and then tip your hat to

  33. wilchiro on August 10th, 2012 10:11 pm

Just tired of the excuses from Wedge. I know this team is very young but with the exception of Montero and a few bullpen arms most guys on this team have two or three years under their belts now and they’re still not figuring it out.

I’m so frustarated. I’m nearly at the point where I just want to see something new, because Zduriencik’s plan isn’t working and Wedge isn’t that good of a manager.

  34. Westside guy on August 10th, 2012 11:56 pm

These Mariners need to time their babies better!

First Carp left the team for a while to be with his newborn – and now Wilhelmsen has done it!

(to the humor impaired… I am kidding)

  35. stevemotivateir on August 11th, 2012 11:56 am

Anyone wanna comment further on the ‘chemistry’ without Ichiro? (kidding)

If it makes anyone feel better, the off-season isn’t too far away. I’d bet the farm Jack brings in at least one quality outfielder.

  36. msfanmike on August 11th, 2012 12:55 pm

    Steve!

Is your restaurant/store (I cant remember what
    It is) doing business yet?

Cabrera, Upton FA, Upton trade candidate, Hamilton, Pence, Other, TBD, Ibid, … There will be some to choose from – but I would be a bit surprised if we get one. But getting one that could hit #3 in the lineup would certainly be nice. I kinda like Cabrera if the price the M’s would have to overpay isn’t completely outlandish.

  37. stevemotivateir on August 11th, 2012 1:26 pm

    Oi Mike

It will be a couple months before we get things running here. Not even moved into our house yet, though we should be early next week. Got real lucky with that! Great location, nice place.

I would be surprised if any of the names you mentioned weren’t a target. Cabrera would certainly have the veteran presence they seem to want. He’s hit well in a difficult park as well, so that certainly makes him more appealing. Wonder if he’d have any interest coming here?
