Millwood vs Floyd, Start Time TBD

Lots of rain in Chicago, so the game is going to be delayed at the least. Saunders is still out of the line-up due to tweaking his groin in Friday’s collision.

Anybody hear anything on Guti and/or Carp returning?

  2. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 11:19 am

    Guti is returning “soon”.

  3. SonOfZavaras on August 26th, 2012 11:29 am

I totally expect Guti to be one of the September call-ups, Steve. They’ll probably give him as many ABs in AAA as they can before then, fine-tune him as much as possible.

  4. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 11:29 am

    Rain delays are fun.

  5. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 11:30 am

Wedge said he hoped Saunders would be back in the lineup tomorrow.

  6. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 11:33 am

I kind of expected to see Guti in September, if at all. But I’ve been hopeful to see him before then. Not that we’ve been terribly desperate, as Thames and (gulp) even Robinson have looked fairly good.

  7. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 12:29 pm

Sounds like they’ve decided on a 1pm (our time) start.

  8. terryoftacoma on August 26th, 2012 1:02 pm

    Play ball!

  9. mrnostalgia on August 26th, 2012 1:09 pm

My best friend is a diehard Sox fan. He keeps giving me crap about the 1-7 record this year, so needless to say, I really really want this one.

Not to mention getting swept is terrible.

  10. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:11 pm

Wait… MONTERO beat a grounder out???

I know it was a deep grounder, but – what planet am I on? hahaha

  11. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 1:31 pm

Damn. Really hate called third strikes.

  12. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:37 pm

This is a really sloppy game so far – probably the rain, I’m guessing.

  13. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 1:37 pm

Wow, did I see that right? Truinfel got the best defensive player award for the Rainiers?

  14. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:41 pm

    Hadn’t heard that, Steve.

    Nice throw by Jaso there!

  15. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:43 pm

Okay, Curto confirms what you reported Steve. And he reported the following…

Carlos Triunfel’s reaction to being named Rainiers Defensive player of the Year (in thick Dominican accent): “Defense? I have 30 errors!”

  16. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:44 pm

Haha, Drayer reports that Zunino is currently hitting .419 in AA! Could we see him sometime next year?

  17. 9inningknowitall on August 26th, 2012 1:53 pm

    Westy,

I got to watch Zunino for three games when he was with the AquaSox playing against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and I can honestly say he is the only player I’ve ever seen in this league where I thought he was a major league player today. Yes he has some to learn before he gets called up but he really did look like a major league player just showing off to the young guys and doing free clinics for other teams. He has a great swing and is solid behind the plate.

  18. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 1:59 pm

Thank you 9inning. That’s pretty cool – I’m really excited about him.

  19. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 2:01 pm

    “Adventure” Thames strikes…

  20. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 2:21 pm

CASPER WELLS puts the Mariners back in the lead!

  21. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:03 pm

The Sox just walked the bases loaded… okay, Trayvon, show some discipline!

  22. henryv on August 26th, 2012 3:07 pm

“Trayvon Robinson is coming up with the bases loaded” is possibly one of the least feared statements in MLB history.

  23. Paul B on August 26th, 2012 3:09 pm

    He tried to hold up.

And, nobody has the Spokane Indians as their favorite team.

  24. Paul B on August 26th, 2012 3:15 pm

    C’mon rain.

  25. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:21 pm

    Well, that’s probably the game.

  26. groundzero55 on August 26th, 2012 3:23 pm

Seriously, are we the only team this guy hits well? Tyler freaking Flowers. Maybe our pitchers need to stop throwing him meatballs.

  27. mrnostalgia on August 26th, 2012 3:25 pm

    Goddamn Sox.

  28. WTF_Ms on August 26th, 2012 3:26 pm

Should’ve been the game in the 7th when the rain was the worse…

  29. msfanmike on August 26th, 2012 3:27 pm

Chicago has become Our very own “little house of horrors”.

Too many missed scoring chances. Again.

  30. WTF_Ms on August 26th, 2012 3:28 pm

I HATE it when the umps try too hard to get a complete game in, on a really rainy day. The Sox aren’t going to lose the season on a rain shortened game here.

  31. WTF_Ms on August 26th, 2012 3:29 pm

    Frack….now THIS??? Wow…what a joke.

  32. groundzero55 on August 26th, 2012 3:29 pm

This was not only a winnable game but a winnable series. Even a sweepable series. So many fundamental mistakes and brain farts.

  33. msfanmike on August 26th, 2012 3:31 pm

Oh good – now the tarp comes on. Super timimg

  34. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 3:32 pm

I leave, go to the park, come back and shower, look to see who won, to find the game is only in the third. Guess I missed another delay.

  35. mrnostalgia on August 26th, 2012 3:34 pm

i hate the sox. i hate chicago. i hate rain. and i hate the sox.

  36. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:36 pm

Okay, so it looks like they’re removing the tarp?

  37. msfanmike on August 26th, 2012 3:37 pm

If there is a rainout, i believe the options are to either go back to the last completed inning (to determine a winner), or decide to resume the game from its current point – at a later date.

    Does anybody know for certain?

With that said, I can’t see this game not finding a way to eventually get through 7 complete innings.

  38. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:38 pm

Groundzero, I agree. The White Sox, in the first two games anyway, have handed the Mariners multiple chances to win. But the Mariners have seemed equally insistent on giving the games back.

  39. WTF_Ms on August 26th, 2012 3:40 pm

All-in-all, not a horrible series from the last place M’s against the 1st place Sox, who are in a playoff race.

Bodes well for the future me thinks?

  40. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 3:42 pm

There’s more than one option if I’m not mistaken, Mike. Didn’t Griffey get robbed of what would be 50 HR’s because one was during a game that was called before it went five innings?

  41. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 3:43 pm

Ah, I should have read your post a second time before I said that :P

  42. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:44 pm

Mike, I was trying to find out what was said in the official rules. For rain delays, the index refers to section 3.10(c). Well, in that document there’s a 3.10(a) and a 3.10(b)… but no 3.10(c). :-D

Okay, found 3.10(c) on mlb.com… but it only talks about the crew chief making the decision, not about the timing.

  43. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:48 pm

Good grief! There’s an ADVERTISEMENT on the tarp!

  44. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 3:51 pm

Hey, jumping back to a discussion from a previous game – apparently coaches have to be in uniform to go on the field, but not managers.

“3.15 No person shall be allowed on the playing field during a game except players and coaches in uniform, managers, news photographers authorized by the home team, umpires, officers of the law in uniform and watchmen or other employees of the home club. In case of unintentional interference with play by any person herein authorized to be on the playing field (except members of the offensive team participating in the game, or a coach in the coach?s box, or an umpire) the ball is alive and in play. If the interference is intentional, the ball shall be dead at the moment of the interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference.”

  45. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 4:01 pm

Westy, I remember uniforms being an issue many years ago, as many managers were wearing non-regulation uniforms (i.e. pull-over jackets). Not sure that has anything to do with what you were saying, but thought I’d share that :)

  46. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 4:03 pm

Now that I think about it… Joe Maddon wore a hoody one year that Tampa Bay made it to the World Series. I recall he got some grief over it, but it was legal.

  47. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 4:06 pm

Yeah, something changed since then. Wanna look up the rules on regulation clothing?! I’m lazy.

  48. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 4:13 pm

Well, I did find a couple news stories.

MLB initially told Maddon not to wear the hoodie, then reversed themselves:

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/20/mlb-to-joe-maddon-lose-the-hoodie/

The story mentions the fact that Terry Francona wore a windbreaker during games.

Then there was this article that makes it sound like it wasn’t a rule violation, it may have been tied to a marketing deal MLB has with Majestic Jerseys:

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2010/04/mlb-cracks-down—-on-joe-maddons-hoodie/1

  49. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 4:17 pm

Interesting. I bet you’re right about the marketing connection.

  50. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 4:22 pm

So, since Majestic is making female-cut jerseys with pink and other colors, does that mean a manager can tranny-out? Sizes might be an issue, but I’d be supportive :)

Actually, I’m not certain it’s Majestic that makes those. Not that it matters.

  51. stevemotivateir on August 26th, 2012 4:55 pm

Anyone care to guess what Zunino’s OPS is this year? Small sample size of course, but man, it’s encouraging. I wont tell.

  52. bookbook on August 26th, 2012 5:03 pm

    1357.2

  53. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 5:12 pm

Oh, man. Zunino can’t make it to the big leagues fast enough for me!

MILB.com has his OPS at 1.285 – that’s only 32 ABs, of course.

  54. terryoftacoma on August 26th, 2012 5:32 pm

They called it. White Sox 4 M’s 3.

  55. Westside guy on August 26th, 2012 5:49 pm

Glad I didn’t stick it out through that last rain delay then! I wasted a couple hours before the game started though…

  56. befara on August 31st, 2012 9:20 pm

The Mariners are 4-17 against the Angels in September since 2008 (didn’t go back further). Yeah I know, not predictive etc. Just a fun fact as you look forward to the remaining games.
