Nobody’s Departure Prompts Matthew/Jeff Podcast

It’s been a while!

Jeff and I round up all the Mariners news from the trade deadline. Which was none. Exhausted by the effort, we talked about other teams’ trades for a bit then circled back to the Mariners, touching on the young players in the way we like to touch on them. Gently. Almost lovingly, but in a admiringly platonic way that’s not creepy at all.

I take it this was recorded before yesterday’s meltdown. Which is too bad because I would have liked to have heard you guys rant about the M’s after that game. Just would have been cathartic.

    I laughed at your paragraph.

Regarding the Pirates wanting Andino instead of Ryan: maybe it’s salary? Andino: $1.6 mil, Ryan: $3.25 mil. And the Pirates are concerned about small amounts of money, aren’t they?

Feedback regarding Ideas you brought up…

    – talking about beers you’ve recently tried sounds fun
    – talking about some notable Mariners minor leaguer would be interesting
    – discussing a stat would be interesting, but I don’t know if I’d want to hear it every time
    – discussing some non-Mariners player would be interesting, but unless there was some sort of twist I wouldn’t want to hear it every time (by “twist” I mean, I don’t know, something unusual about what they’re currently doing)

But, in the end, you’re giving us entertainment for free – so talk about whatever you want!

And you guys talked about Smoak not hitting recently… Since your podcast: two games, Smoak 4 for 7 (6 for 9 OBP). But only one double.

    (okay: 🙂 )

I tripped several times (twenty-five or so years ago) in Seattle and New York. Yeah, it was weird when I was in the subway, but when I got where I was going — the Museum of Modern Art, say — it was fascinating.

(I mean, differently fascinating. Of course MoMA was always fascinating.)

First off, thanks for another awesome podcast. They are my favorite thing in any form of media… Seriously.

I would love for you to cover an advanced stat each time. Quickly cover the basics of it, but them talk about the shortcomings as well as the outliers and the league trends. I love data and analysis and opinions about it.

Finally I would be willing to pay something like $2 a piece of it meant they came much more regularly. They make a normally jaded and annoyed mariners fan and chemistry teacher very happy.
