Podcast: Great Week Sullied a Little by Today

Monday Evening Podcast! You never know when with us lately.

Today’s episode is chock full of some disjointed tangents and points. But almost entirely about the Mariners. It feels a little weird, to be honest.

    Second-degree fun?

I think I understood that (and some other inside reference) because of the context, but I am wondering about the story behind it/them.

Trying to dissect an umpire/manager ejection is weird without knowing what was said or what exactly the unwritten rules are. Except for the most obvious foopahs, these things tend to be almost exclusively important to the fans of the team that was wronged. There is very little to actually discuss beyond speculation, and it usually devolves into calling the umpire disparaging names, and maybe his family as well.

There should be a term similar to second-degree fun for things that are fun because you know at the time that they are awful, like Madonna in Swept Away, or Raul in left field, or Endy and Romero batting 1-2.

Hmm, type 2 fun, not second degree.
