Game 103, Royals at Mariners

Mike Snow · July 28, 2012 at 1:08 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Millwood vs. Chen, 1:10 pm.

2B-L Ackley
RF-R Wells
CF-L Saunders
DH-R Montero
3B-L Seager
C-R Olivo
1B-L Carp
LF-B Robinson
SS-R Ryan

Aside from helping win today’s game, a good start from Millwood would help marginally increase his trade value. Most of the talk has been about whether to trade Vargas, but Millwood is an even more obvious choice to trade, since there’s no reason to bring him back next year. Of course, even if he is traded he won’t fetch much in return, probably a low-level, second-tier pitching prospect.

    [dubious link]

Yuni is hitting 5 for the Royals, and I really enjoy that.

  2. kuptain on July 28th, 2012 1:12 pm

Finally they put someone else in RF other than Peguero!

  3. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 1:14 pm

Well, the team is facing a lefty this time. Peguero’s looked pretty lost even against righties.

  4. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 1:17 pm

That vipbox.tv site seems to be pushing a lot of crapware.

  5. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 1:19 pm

I have never had a problem with the vipbox.tv before.

  6. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 1:26 pm

Wow, doesn’t look like many people showed up for the Randy/Dan bobblehead…

  7. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 1:27 pm

I think Casper might have been out….

  8. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 1:38 pm

If mlb.tv didn’t have their ridiculous blackout rules, I’d buy it every year.

  9. FelixFanChris420 on July 28th, 2012 1:39 pm

    No TV? Wow…

  10. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 1:40 pm

You are 100% right, their blackout rules are insane. I mean, you can use proxys to get around it but that just makes it choppy and slow and its just not worth it.

  11. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 1:44 pm

Okay, let’s take advantage of the error!

  12. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 1:46 pm

    Nice steal, Trayvon.

  13. terryoftacoma on July 28th, 2012 1:50 pm

Here’s an idea. Instead of trading Vargas and Millwood for low level junk, we keep them. Let them pitch out the season and then Millwood’s gone and then we trade Vagas in the off season. In the mean time our young pitchers are gaining experience in the minors. This swap/trade and hope we catch lightning in a bottle with all our young kids at the same time is iffy at best.

  14. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:00 pm

I’d try to trade Millwood for a return, I’d be ok with holding on to Vargas though.

  15. Mike Snow on July 28th, 2012 2:00 pm

The time to trade Vargas, if you’re going to trade him, is now. You can get something out of a desperate team at the trade deadline. In the offseason, everybody will be looking at his upcoming arbitration award and figuring (whether or not they’re right) that they can find an equivalent pitcher some other way for cheaper.

  16. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 2:03 pm

    MONTY!!

  17. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:03 pm

    MONTERO!!!!!!

  18. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 2:05 pm

Chen seems to be handling our lefties pretty well – good thing Wells and Monty our hitting him!

    And another error by KC!

  19. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:05 pm

    YEAH KC ERRORS

  20. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 2:06 pm

    Olivo joins the party!

  21. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:06 pm

Did Olivo just get a hit with a runner in scoring position?

  22. terryoftacoma on July 28th, 2012 2:08 pm

See, getting “something” for our veterns lately hasn’t worked all that well(other than maybe Wells). I just don’t see how our trading vets for a collect of prospects has done us much good in the last 4 years.

  23. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:10 pm

Millwood is probably going to walk, so I’d rather get something for him than nothing.

Vargas is dependent on whether a team panics and overpays or not.

  24. terryoftacoma on July 28th, 2012 2:14 pm

If he walks you do get something. You add his mil to what you need to get an outfielder.

  25. PinedaExpress on July 28th, 2012 2:17 pm

“If he walks you do get something. You add his mil to what you need to get an outfielder.”

You get that whether he walks or not….What you don’t get, is whatever a team would give up for him.

  26. terryoftacoma on July 28th, 2012 2:21 pm

I won’t argue the point anymore but low level prospects are the same as getting nothing unless you believe in “lightning in a bottle”.

  27. kuptain on July 28th, 2012 2:24 pm

Look at that! Having somebody else in instead of Peguero is already paying dividends!!

  28. PinedaExpress on July 28th, 2012 2:26 pm

what you’re calling something, has nothing to do with trading him. It’s something you get either way. The difference between dealing him now, or letting him go in the off-season, is the low level prospect and possibly some salary relief this year. There’s no difference in ‘what you can pay an OF next year by keeping him on the roster the rest of the year.

  29. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 2:53 pm

Wow! By the way Yuni, that’s how you play shortstop.

  30. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:22 pm

    Uh oh, he’s League’ing it…

  31. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:31 pm

Good job Saunders … Drew a walk and stole a money bag. We need to get that insurance run.

Listening to Fairley on the radio today – has not been too bad. He sure has a lot of enthusiasm and passion, still.

  32. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:33 pm

Thanks, KC! Not sure who blew it (Pitcher or Yuni) … Just glad it worked out.

  33. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:34 pm

    Yay for Yuni!

  34. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:35 pm

Overall I like Red. I enjoy his stories, and given his career I don’t mind when he talks about things like approach and the like.

It’s just when he gets all old school about grit and veteraniness and such that he bugs me…

  35. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:38 pm

Not sure about that strike 2 call.

  36. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:39 pm

    Good job Carp!

  37. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:40 pm

Are you watching the game, Westy – and if yes, how/where?

  38. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:46 pm

Kyle posted a link early on…

    http://www.vipbox.tv/watch/62799/1/seattle-mariners-vs-kansas-city-royals-live-stream-online.html

The site seems to want to fill your screen with popup ads – be warned.

  39. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:49 pm

I’d like to see us hang onto Wilhelmsen…

  40. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:52 pm

Me too … Gotta stop the constant churn when it makes sense … And he makes sense.

Could not “download” on the iPhone, but thank you anyway.

Come on Willy! Man, that insurance run was big

  41. msfanmike on July 28th, 2012 3:52 pm

    Sweet!!!

  42. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:52 pm

This game is getting interesting… Wells *almost* had that!

  43. californiamariner on July 28th, 2012 3:53 pm

Can the Mariners play the Royals more?

  44. Westside guy on July 28th, 2012 3:55 pm

    Woo Hoo!

  45. Kyle Miller on July 28th, 2012 7:03 pm

Someone changed it to “dubious link” lol. Well, I don’t deal with any pop-ups when I go there so………sorry?

Anyway, we should play Kansas City for 25 more games.

  46. Breadbaker on July 28th, 2012 8:57 pm

I was at the game, which was the best way to see it by far (particularly since RJ appeared at the very end to cheer Wilhelmsen on). Main thought: the difference between Ryan and Betancourt was the difference in the game.
