Cactus League Game 3, Angels-at-Mariners vs. the Elements

Scott Baker vs. CJ Wilson

With the news that the M’s are resigned to start the season with both Tai Walker and Hisashi Iwakuma on the disabled list, Scott Baker’s starts should generate a bit more interest. Baker’s elbow injury was an odd one, and his recovery has not been terribly smooth. But the M’s suddenly need him to be a better-than-replacement level arm to help stabilize their rotation.

1: Almonte, CF
2: Avery, RF
3: CANO, 2B
4: Smoak, 1B
5: Morrison, DH
6: Ackley, LF
7: Miller, SS
8: Zunino, C
9: Triunfel, 3B

Good test for Smoak and Miller facing the lefty Wilson today.

Given our area’s typical weather this time of year, I’m not going to feel too sorry for these guys. Rain and mid-70s is a lot more pleasant than rain and mid-40s. 😉

BTW Marc – thank you for the yeoman’s work you put in handling these game threads. I hope you realize we appreciate it.

Baker looked solid today. Does quick work on the mound. But can we stop the Ackley in left experiment? He hasn’t had an error yet but he doesn’t seem to be able to react to fly balls properly.

Exactly! Love reading the threads and articles both here and LL. Makes March a lot of fun to sorta be in Peoria from home. By the way……currently 15 degrees with a 30 mile an hour wind and snow forecast for tonight. Eastside yeah!!!

Uuuummmm…..this game was supposed to be on MLB network. But cards and fish are on?! Why?!!

I know it’s early, but assuming we win today’s game… I’m already anticipating a repeat of last spring’s media stories – the ones telling us how this team is completely different, they’re going to be a force to be reckoned with in the AL West, etc.

But I can mostly tune that out. Just like you, Eastside, I enjoy the escape to Peoria. It’s like spring arrives a tad earlier, thanks to baseball. I know I’ll frequently complain about the team once the season comes around, but right now I’m simply happy baseball is back!

I’d love to be able to get down there for real, sometime.

Not me, I try never to get stuck in the negative. Every spring is a new year, with a new opportunity. I like the look of this year’s club and I also think McLendon is the type of manager they have needed from the start. All it will take is a guy like James Jones to win a job ala Seager a few years ago and a young pitcher like Paxson to come through and the season outlook becomes rosier. If a team as pathetic as the Seahawks were under Mora can win the SB, there is no reason the M’s can’t put it together!

I’m with GhostofMarinersPast, why isn’t this game televised on MLB Network. It isn’t like they advertised the last two days this game was going to be aired.

Not only that but I just checked their website and it still says the M’s game was supposed to be aired.

How did I triple post? Hmm…weird. Anyway, looks like Baker pitched well at that is what the stat line suggests.

Why doesn’t FSN broadcast the games? Even if they weren’t shown live I would still watch it. The other day I checked to see if they were but they were showing ski jumping. Are there that many people that would rather watch ski jumping instead of baseball?

Seattleslew, no kidding. Especially since the Mariners now effectively OWN Root Sports.
