King Felix vs. Joe Saunders, 7:10pm
Ok, admit it: who here predicted that Joe Saunders would be an “important trade deadline acquisition” in 2012? By the Orioles?
Felix could use a solid game after a couple of comparative clunkers.
Saunders is a lefty, so that explains Wells reappearance as well as Olivo “DH”ing.
The line-up:
1: Ackley
2: Gutierrez
3: Seager
4: Montero (C)
5: Smoak
6: Saunders
7: Olivo (DH)
8: Wells
9: Ryan
SP: El Rey

So the Mariners personnel in charge of the visiting clubhouse apparently tried to kill one of the Orioles pitchers by putting peanuts in a spread?
First I’ve heard of that. Did it work?
Felix seems to have settled down… it’d be nice if the Mariners hitters would do something besides make an out on 3 or fewer pitches.
Haha, no. Sims was saying Showalter was at the hospital with him until about 5am though.
Westside guy, what happened? I hadn’t heard about that.
One of the foods that was in the visitor’s clubhouse was a spread that contained peanuts, but apparently was not labelled. One of the Orioles’ pitchers (don’t remember which one) ate some of it. Unfortunately the guy has a peanut allergy – he had breathing problems and they had to take him to the hospital.
They said he is doing fine now, fortunately.
It’s common for trays and spreads to have foods that have been processed in/on the same equipment as other foods and not get the warning label, though they’re suppose to have them. Glad he’s doing fine. Having said that, he wouldn’t be the first ballplayer to choke at Safeco.
^ *rimshot*
Yeah, it seemed like that throw-in was a little too casual. Orioles made him pay for it.
No way that guy should have scored there
Guti!!! Nice to see him get into one.
Wouldn’t it be great to have Guti for a full season again
I’d be supremely happy if we could see Guti for a full season.
BEAUTIFUL play by Ryan there!
McClouth continues to administer a thorough ass-whooping on Mariner pitching. That guy has made a great career comeback (I guess). He fell awfully hard and fast, but has apparently “found it” again.
Ya know, Sims, Seager’s “automatic 2-out RBI” run ended long ago…
How does the umpire miss that? But, maybe a better question, why is Seager even picking it up unless it is 100% without a doubt in foul play?
Edit: Ok, after seeing the replay, maybe the ball was rolling back, and Seager had to try to stop it.
Quiet on here tonight but it looks like Felix has been dealing. He sure has had a great year but all the innings/pitches have got to be wearing on him a bit. Just seems to me like it would anyway. He is sure a stud though and I hope he re-ups with Seattle….
Well, I had to gargle six times today in order to get the putrid taste of yesterday’s game out of my mouth, so maybe others are experiencing something similar and staying away, accordingly.
Yeah I understand that. Glad I left it when I did. What a mess that was…hoping this one does not turn out the same but we did end up with Olivo as a DH which is the biggest oxymoron I have ever heard. I don’t guess I will ever understand the way Wedge thinks….
Man, I hope this game doesn’t go as long as last night’s game…
Let’s see if Wedge refuses to pinch-hit Jaso at any point because he’s worried about losing the DH in extra innings.
Practically speaking, most of our pitchers could probably come within shouting distance of “DH” Olivo’s batting average.
I can’t believe he didn’t start Jaso tonight…his refusal to give Jaso a shot against lefties drives me crazy. I have to quick thinking about Wedge or I will have nightmares again…lol.
I’m not in the mood to look it up, but I swear this year Felix has to have the most games pitched going 8 or more, giving up 1 or less run, and not getting a win. But, then again, it isn’t like that is just this year.
Great catch by Endy (unfortunately).
I think Wedge is going to insist that Olivo returns next season. And that is sad commentary. Zunino probably gets 50 games or so in AA to start next season and then maybe a promotion to AAA. Sucre is around – and he is good defensively. He could be a third catcher stop gap, but Montero is not really a #2 catcher, so there is that unknown. Someone reliable needs to be around. Sucre won’t knock Olivo off the perch, so He is probabky coming back. Maybe under different terms than his option year suggests, but I just have a bad feeling.
Okay, Smoak gets to hit.
Come on guys, you know nOlivo fits the the very definition of Designated Hack..er quite well.
Jaso is going to pinch hit for Liddi tonight. It’s only fair.
You are probably right msfanmike, but my hope is that the front office doesn’t care that Wedge insists on bringing Olivo back.
Mike, I really hope you’re wrong.
I’m afraid you’re right, though.
I sure hope he takes his strikeouts and passed balls somewhere else…
I am on a Billy Butler quest for some reason. If the offer was Paxton, Stefen Romero and Smoak to KC – who hangs up first?
I don’t think the Royals would hang up there.
Oh, PLEASE don’t have No-livo try to bunt again.
WEDGE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
Yeah Olivo would’ve just bunted into a double play if it hadn’t gone foul.
DAMMIT WEDGE.
Oh come on. TRAYVON ROBINSON, not Jaso??
Was that a foul bunt? WHEN IS THAT IDIOT GOING TO STOP MAKING THEM BUNT……arggggghhhhh
Atta boy, Wedge, stick to your guns.
Time for a hit, Tray!
Time for a hit, Carp!
So if Wedge continues with his intelligent decision making, he’ll do the opposite of last night and let Carp bat against the lefty Showalter is now bringing in.
so is Carp bunting?
No, Carp will not be bunting. Not with one out, anyway.
So Wedge won’t let Jaso – his best hitter – face a same-handed pitcher… but he’ll let Carp do it.
Makes sense.
What? No Liddi?
Are we sure Wedge doesn’t have a few samoleans on the O’s to win the WS?
I thought we would see another 3 pitch K for Liddi
So I guess Carp got to K instead…
I propose we hereafter refer to Matutz as “Mr. Peanut”.
(In honor of his peanut allergy, for those of you who aren’t watching on ROOT)
Yes. Because making fun of some one for their near-fatal experiences by calling them the allergen in question is always freaking hilarious.
That would be like calling Figgins, Mr. 85 MPH fastball straight down the middle.
Okay I’ll give up on the nick I proposed if we can really call Figgins “Mr. 85 MPH fastball straight down the middle”.
Crap, right now I blame Wedge for the lack of a win that inning.
Fair deal
Figgins is allergic to 85 mph fastballs down the middle:
This line made me smile. Nicely done.
Guti may drive in the winning run, but it takes some effort to manage a game more poorly than Eric Wedge. Does he know anything about his team at all? 0-17 w/risp…you do not waste an out with a bunt, especially with the batter ahead 2-0. And Olivo clearly does not care to bunt nor does he know how. Carp vs. Matusz is called getting out managed. Hitting Robinson for Wells makes no sense, really. It is embarrassing. Did I miss an appearance earlier by Jaso? If not, he was clearly the best choice for an AB in that poor excuse for an inning. If Wedge does not have an undiagnosed brain tumor, he is perhaps the biggest buffoon to manage this team since Maury Wills, who intentionally threw at his own son.
Our pen could use the extra work, anyway.
Hehehe Mike.
I can imagine what 50%-75% of the words are out there in the ‘pen right now.
Ugh.
Yay, friendly fire! I still love Bill Bavasi.
Oh man, I hope Monty’s throat is okay.
Montero closes his eyes when there’s a swing.
29 straight innings of closely contested games, and Jaso has yet to get an at bat. Yeah, that’s just stupid.
Smoak is super clutch. And fast.
They can just walk Saunders without repercussions, really.
WHAT?? I just saw Jaso holding a bat! Wedge has a sudden outbreak of common sense!
Oh Condor. That was dumb.
Wow. Whose idea was that?
Oh my God!
There are not enough WTF letters in the world to describe the ending to that game. Pure horseshit.
Terrible, putrid, obnoxious … Yet surprisingly filling.
Go eat another bag, Wedge. You earned it.
So we can’t have him steal in a tie game without trying the bunt first (because we have to keep bunting until we get it right!) but he can steal to END THE GAME?
Well, we’re going to go visit some friends tomorrow – so I hope you guys get to see some nice, quick, 9-inning games tomorrow and Friday.
Me, I think I’m looking forward to an excused absence from a couple games.
Nice, Wedge. Compound your stupidity by taking the bat out of Jaso’s hands. Guy never got a swing. New limits for dumb.
And does anybody on the broadcast crew have an ounce of intellectual honesty? These guys watch night after night of stupid, and duh their way through their analysis like a couple of mules.
Any other mlb broadcast crew would be embarrassed to ignore this kind of abject stupidity without some sliver of honest critique.
Anyone else think Buck walks Jaso if Saunders is safe. I know it’s putting the winning run on and setting up a situation where Johnson can potentially walk in the winning run but..Jaso with two in scoring position or Trayvon and Muni or pinch hitter if Trayvon gets a hit. I’d rather face Trayvon and Muni/Pinch hitter. What do you guys think?
You’re not the only one thinking that, James.
I want a whole new fucking team. Seriously.. when was the last time the Mariners had a legit offense? Pitching and defense can suck it.
So, it’s Friday night, the game’s on, and nobody’s around? Was the game the other night THAT flattening?! Glad I missed it! Still hopeful for a game-thread tonight.
Holly crap, you’re all missing history! Smoak just hit a DOUBLE!!! That’s more rare than a walk!
Another rarity… Wells gets a start. He just ripped a double, scoring Smoak. Saunders to third. Fun game so far
Uh-oh … Wells has two hits in two AB’s. It means he is probably going to have to sit for the next few games or until there is an updated game thread – whichever comes first.
The off-season will come first!
